About this property

Adirondack High Peaks hideaway near Lake Placid, VT, and Canada

Calling all Fall foliage hunters, winter recreational seekers, or just those in need of some serene rest and relaxation! “High Meadows Hideaway” is situated on 15 private acres at the base of a small mountain in Elizabethtown, NY. The property is adjacent to the 68-acre Pauline Murdock wildlife preserve, adding to the peacefulness. Enjoy the numerous wildlife that like to explore the large yard that leads to the wooded forest.

You will find yourself less than a mile from the amenities of Elizabethtown (grocery and drug store, gas, etc.) Enjoy a cold beverage and meal at the Deer’s Head Inn and Halfway House. Or, enjoy golf at Cobble Hill, one of the oldest golf courses in North America. Despite being so close to the village, the road is quiet and secluded, giving the feeling of being disconnected without sacrificing convenience.

Some of the surrounding attractions include being only 25 minutes from Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain, 15 minutes from the ferry to Vermont, 10 minutes from a Lake Champlain boat launch site and only 90 minutes from Montreal. Additionally, you will have ample options to hike and bike the many trails of the Adirondack region.

The house itself has 2 very large bedrooms with queen beds and a queen air mattress for overflow traffic, thereby sleeping 6 adults comfortably. The kitchen was completely redone in 2022 with brand new countertops, flooring and appliances. The master bath has new flooring and tile in the shower, while the guest bathroom has new flooring. Despite the recent renovations, the house still maintains its quaint and rustic Adirondack charm.

Even with the interior renovations, you will not want to spend much time inside! There is a large yard to take advantage of the scenic views. Enjoy a glass of wine, coffee, apple cider, or hot chocolate as you take in the chirping birds or curious wildlife. There’s a large circular driveway that can easily accommodate multiple cars, a boat and separate parking for an RV/camper. Whether you need a place just to relax or a comfortable place to lay your head from the day’s activities, High Meadows Hideaway can serve your needs.

Property owner was wonderfully communicative and responsive to my questions as I planned my first short term rental experience and dealt with some unforeseen weather. Very positive experience and grateful we had a nice place to stay.

Happy Hideaway
Spacious, light filled hideaway with privacy. Bedrooms very large and bathrooms nicely redone. Kitchen remodeled and functional. Cozy living room. Hosts were very responsive. Not too far from Whiteface and Lake Placid. Very convenient to I-87.

The property was perfect. I was in town for two weeks for work. The home is very comfortable, easy to go to, and beautiful inside. Kitchen is updated and very user friendly. Dining area looks out over the neighboring nature preserve. Each day I was visited by deer and turkeys.

The property is owned by my wife and me. I grew up in Elizabethtown and have a distinct fondness for it. Despite going to college in Arizona and now living in Texas, we have been returning to the North Country every summer since I left. I'm hoping this place can give you the same great memories it gives us.
