Discover the allure of Keene, nestled within the Adirondacks High Peaks region, in this comfortable four-bedroom getaway. Nestled just a 15-minute drive from the renowned Whiteface Mountain, 20 minutes from historic Lake Placid village, and serene Mirror Lake, this property offers the perfect base for your outdoor adventures.

As you arrive, you'll be greeted by the inviting porch, where you can sip your morning coffee and plan the day's activities as you listen to the East Branch of the Ausable River. Inside, the fully stocked kitchen, complete with a stove, oven, refrigerator, Weber grill, and all the necessary appliances, allows you to easily prepare delicious meals. Gather around the front porch or step outside to the fire pit and outdoor furniture for alfresco dining under the stars.

Originally constructed in 1840, this recently renovated home has pine siding interior, hardwood floors and rustic decor that complement the natural surroundings of the Adirondacks. Roam over five acres that include open meadows, a sunflower field, iconic barn, and pine forests, or stroll down to a secluded private beach on the East Branch of the Ausable River. A special feature of our property. New York State land directly across from the property protects the privacy of fishermen, swimmers and sunbathers.

When it's time to unwind after the days outdoor activities, cozy up by the wood stove in the living room and enjoy the cable TV, or challenge your family to a game night with the selection of games and toys provided. With the convenience of a washing machine and dryer, you can pack light and focus on making the most of your vacation.

This cabin was so wonderful…. Comfortable beds, perfectly located with the beautiful Ausable right across a quiet road, sitting on 5 acres so lots of privacy and everything you would need for a comfortable stay. We would stay again if we ever head back that way. Thank you!!

Thank you for letting us stay in your house. The house was clean, comfortable, and stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, shampoo, body wash. There were liquid soap dispensers at every sink which was great but some were low or near empty. There were plenty of games to play and a front porch with chairs to relax. It had a nice fire pit area. We also enjoyed the stony beach area of the Ausable River which was a plus for granddaughter and dog to play in! The location of the house was near many trails for hiking, biking, paddle boarding and kayaking. It was great we could also include the dog in all our activities. We had a wonderful vacation.

We really enjoyed our stay! The house was spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable. And the location was absolutely perfect. Our family of 5 (2 adults 3 kids) spent countless hours at the river and riding bikes at the nearby trails. Honestly, we ended up doing fewer outings than planned because everyone was happy to hang nearby the house. We were there a particularly warm week in July, but the house stayed pretty cool with a good breeze and fans. We wish we lived closer to visit in the fall-- a really lovely house to take in the charms of the Keene Valley and greater Adirondaks.

This property had ample space for us, our two grown daughters and dog. The owners were correct when they said you could hear the river in the morning from the front porch. It was an easy drive to Lake Placid and equally easy to get to Lake George. We highly recommend the Keene Valley Farmers market on Sunday mornings, the Au Sable Forks brewery and the French bakery. The only thing to keep in mind is that pets are not allowed on the furniture so make sure your pet has been trained for that aspect.

True Adirondack experience! Nothing could be better if you want to have a remote, clean, and comfortable place to stay while visiting the area. It is close to everything you want to see, yet you feel alone tucked between the woods and the river. Not a far walk to a hiking/biking trailhead which was a pleasant surprise. The hosts are amazing! They were so accommodating and helpful. You will not be disappointed if you stay here. They have done a lot to this cabin to make it a great experience.

Location can’t be beat. Great hiking and swimming close by and a beautiful drive to Lake Placid for more activities. The property has an incredible beach and fire pit. The house has everything you need including a washer and dryer for cleaning off clothes after big adventures. We loved our visit.

Oh my goodness! 10/10. I highly recommend this cozy cabin! Great location right by the river, wonderful local restaurants, close to Whiteface and Lake Placid area. This cabin had everything we needed plus some! It was nice to be able to use the wood stove when we got back from a long day of skiing. The beds could not have been more comfortable! The communication was excellent. There is so much to do in this area! We hope to come back and do some of the amazing hiking trails. There were so many games at the cabin for our boys to play! Our stay could not have been any better!

Incredible place to stay!

We had a wonderful time staying at the river house. The river is beautiful and fun to relax by and play in. The location is perfect.. within easy range of a bunch of great hikes, swimming holes, and Lake Placid. We enjoyed making s’mores and star gazing. We did some cooking and grilling and had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again!

Great stay!

Our second Summer at the River House and it was just as wonderful as our first year. We've already booked a Fall weekend. The location is perfect for high peaks activities and the river is so relaxing.

Why they chose this property

Mark and I had been visiting the Adirondacks for years, spending time doing what we love to do when we aren't working: hiking; biking; skiing; kayaking; and paddling. We stayed at the River House our first summer as guests and fell in love with it. When we heard it was for sale we decided to take the plunge to have a place of our own... it has changed our lives. We want to continue to offer this magical property to other travelers to love and enjoy like we do.

What makes this property unique

Six miles to Whiteface Mountain. A private sandy beach on the river; fly fishing; hiking; biking; skiing...it's all at your front door. There is an outdoor shower to get the sand out of your toes after spending time on the beach or exercising in the high peaks.
