About the host
Hosted by Maureen
I am the proud owner of my mountain chalet, and I am happy to share it. I've been so fortunate to have lived here full time for 7 years when I worked in Scranton. Now that I've relocated for a new job, I didn't want the house to sit empty. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do!
Why they chose this property
This house is not owned by a corporation but by someone who understands the importance of spending time with loved ones in the very midst of Mother Nature. My home is perfectly tucked into the landscape, so you can enjoy the beauty of true indoor-outdoor living. This is an incredible space to enjoy the outdoors while relishing in the comfort of a beautiful home. No tent pitching required! Just step out onto the porch, breathe in that fresh mountain air, and take in all the beauty that surrounds you. I've created a space to help you relax, enjoy, and escape from everyday life without having to give up the comforts of home.
And above all, your dogs are welcome! After all, they are part of the family!
My home is in The Hideout, a gated four season community. It's just about a 2-hour drive from NYC and Philly. The house has a huge deck with a retractable sun awning, BBQ, picnic table, plenty of chairs with great cushions, and a hammock surrounded by trees w/ flowers and fresh herbs in deck pots. I hope you use some of the herbs in your food prep.
For the start of your stay, I’ll make sure the following items are available: hand soap and body wash (both liquid in pump bottles); paper towels; TP (2 per bathroom); dishwasher pods; kitchen garbage bags; coffee, assorted teas, and sugar. I set up a small kitchenette on Floor 1 with a Keurig, electric kettle, microwave, and a TINY fridge (which holds up to 6 12-ounce cans, or a small container of half-and-half for your coffee). The house is on a cul-de-sac with no neighbors on either side of the house. I wish I could say it will be totally quiet, but there will be some traffic noise as the house is near SR 590. But once you see the deer, eagles, birds of all kinds, chipmunks, and squirrels, I hope you'll feel the magic of this space.

What makes this property unique
There's plenty to do in The Hideout! If you want to venture out, there are two nearby towns which boast coffee shops, restaurants, antique stores, and small museums. Hawley is about 15 minutes east and Honesdale around 25 minutes north and east.
In the area: Claws N Paws Animal Park, Lacawac Sanctuary, Happy Trails Horseback Riding, Hamlin Speedway, Ritters Cider Mill.
Close by: Costa's Family Fun Park (22-minute drive). PNC Field - home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Minor League Baseball team/Triple-A affiliate of the NY Yankees (35 min) - it's a great little stadium. And if you're in Scranton, check out the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour - bring a jacket (35 min)!
Skiing: 35 minutes to Montage Mountain, 45 to Masthope Mountain, and 55 to Elk Mountain. 45 minutes to Wilkes Barre-Scranton Airport in Avoca.
For the kids: Outdoor pools (open from Memorial Day to Labor Day). Outdoor basketball, softball, volleyball, and paddleball courts. Two indoor and two outdoor tennis courts. Mini golf and four playgrounds. Swimming at the beach and pool. Videogames, fuss ball, and pool tables at the rec/fitness center. At the house: board games, a play tent, play pen, booster seat, books, and kid-friendly dinnerware. There is an Art center where guests can paint pottery and do an array of different crafts - just ask when checking in at the Security Office for an updated listing of events & activities.
Keep in mind that the amenities can at times be closed at the discretion of The Hideout Association. This is not within my control and I can not be responsible for any closure of amenities, including the community-owned lake.
