Beautiful property , neighbor and owners wife are the issue !
Our family has had an off the water property on the lake since the 80s . We own a slip at a localMarina but wanted to have the on the water experience. Scott was slow at responding to messages . No extra toilet paper , they have post it notes to use a certain kind . House was dingy and dirty . Property was never cleaned from fall time Railings where loose and falling off ( dangerous ) Neighbor is prejudice against either out of towners or persons of ethnic background. We came to review the site the weekend before and she shouted at us as we drove away ( and don’t come back ) . As my 16.5 new licensed driver drove past . Well We came back the next weekend and got dirty looks and stares all weekend . Scott’s wife obviously also had an issue because after there little town meeting she had nothing but bad things to say about me and my family to another community memberNever again !

Response from VrboOwner on 12 Sept 2025
It's unfortunate that this renter had not been reviewed by other property owners on VRBO prior to this. All of our other experiences and reviews by renters have been very good.
This is our family cottage. It was built in the 1960's and a lot of it is still original as shown in the listing photos. The reason they were able to rent our cottage over the July 4th holiday, over 8 weeks before his review was posted, is because we have other family obligations during that time. We choose to open up our spot on the lake to others when we were not able to use it.
The property was thoroughly cleaned the morning of their arrival, and we accommodated an early check in that they requested. The railing and other items were broken during their stay and were intact prior to. We also found an entire pizza thrown into the woods.
His other issues had nothing to do with our rental and its unfortunate because if he had been up front with us then this could have been avoided.
They may do better renting a hotel room, not a private cottage with lake access.
About the host
Hosted by Scott C McCullough
We are a family of four living in New Hampshire, spending most of each summer at our cottage in Hebron. Our days here consist of spending time on the beach and swimming with our kids, to kayaking along the coastline, and grilling lunch and dinner with family and friends.
Why they chose this property
Having grown up in central New Hampshire among many lakes, Newfound has always stood out for its' clean water ideal for swimming, fishing and boating. Our cottage is in a neighborhood that is perfect for families looking to spend time on the beach or out on the water. The neighborhood beach and common area with open lawn, picnic tables and volleyball court is close enough that it feels like our front yard. Waterside properties on Newfound Lake are increasingly becoming hard to come by, we hope you will treasure this spot as much as we do.
