Secluded, Lakeside Log Cabin on Squam Lake with private dock
More than 100 feet of private shoreline. Two attached, handmade log cabins, each with lofts. Rustic and cozy throughout. Plenty of room for a family or two couples. One bath/shower plus two half-baths. Surrounded by tall pines and lots of privacy and quiet. Beautiful Squam Lake is just down your short path, over your footbridge and the little freshwater stream. Your dock is ideal for a swim or a paddle in the canoe. The cabin is part of the Pinehurst estate which borders the Rattesnake Mountain and Five FInger Point trails and natural habitat -- hikes right outside your door. In winter, 45 minute drive to Waterville Valley ski area; cross country skiing also available.
The two log cabins are configured like this: The smaller log cabin has a double bed, sitting area, and a loft with two single beds. The attached larger log cabin has a sitting area and kitchen / dining area on the main floor, a queen bed in the loft, and the bath/washrooms downstairs in the basement. There is an apartment-size washer/dryer in the basement but there is no dishwasher in the kitchen. Parking for 2-3 cars on the driveway.
The dock looks out onto True Cove and across to the Five Finger Point Nature area. A canoe plus kayaks are available for your use. Many guests enjoy jumping and swimming off the dock or hiking on the trails in the woods to Five Finger Point or up East and West Rattlesnake Mountains. There is also a gas grill. Please be aware that the area does not permit the use of jetskis.
Designed for peace and quiet, the Pinesteyn Log Cabin has lots of places to sit and talk and has only and old TV that plays DVDs. For when we cannot leave the rest of the world behind there is wifi. The Pinehurst estate is adjacent to Rockywold-Deephaven camps off of Rt. 113 between Sandwich and Holderness, NH. Sandwich offers antiques, artists' studios, and organic farms. Holderness offers the Squam Lakes Science Center, restaurants, and boat rentals.

3 years in a row with our family coming to this cabin and we have the best time all week. From the hiking , canoeing , kayaking- it’s all at the cabin and at the private dock at the waterfront. Can’t wait to come back !

Thank you for your kind words. I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit -- again!
The location of this property is second to none. It is within walking distance of hiking trails, close to restaurants, in a beautiful cove and the hosts provide all of the recreational options you could ask for including kayaks, paddleboards, and canoe.
The cabin was very cozy and in a very private and peaceful setting. The private dock was spacious and very quiet. The views of the lake and mountains were spectacular.
We loved our stay, it was very relaxing. If you're looking for privacy this is the place to be, it's not completely isolated but provided enough privacy to enjoy.

So glad you enjoyed your stay! You are welcome to come back anytime.
Had a great time with excellent access to kayaking on the lake and nearby hiking trails. This unique log cabin layout is multi level and fun to experience. A true camp feel but with the modern conveniences. The owner and local manager were very accommodating and responded quickly to questions.
Marvelous, secluded location in True Cove on Squam Lake. House has virtually every amenity and supply imaginable. We added dock bumpers and an 8 lb anchor to the supply roster. Communication was excellent throughout and I would happily return here with my family in the future. Thank you, M.O., Los Angeles, California (6/28-7/5/25)

So glad you enjoyed your stay! Thank you for the anchor and dock bumpers! You are welcome to come back anytime.
We enjoyed our stay so much! It was absolutely perfect. The wonderful cabin is nestled in the woods but yet such a short walk down to private dock on Squam so we had the perfect blend of the woods and the lake. It was so peaceful and all the waterfront amenities are there to use so we enjoyed the canoe; kayaks; paddle boards. We cannot wait to come back again!

So glad you had a good visit! Squam can be a wonderful and relaxing respite from our daily grind. So much to enjoy. I look forward to welcoming you back!
The cabin is great, with just enough comfort mixed with the rustic camp experience. The property is amazing, located on a quiet cove on one of the most beautiful, impossibly well-preserved lakes in New England. This place is a gem. It is truly in the woods, so you need to be aware of wildlife and the army of bugs looking to feed on you. The owner and caretaker were attentive and gave clear instructions. All in all, it was a great experience in an incredible location.
Properties on Squam Lake seem rarely available because families who live there tend to want to stay there. We were lucky to find a week in Mark's calendar. The house--really two attached cabins--is at the end of a private road with nature preserve as a neighbor. That made us feel we had the cove mostly to ourselves with access to swimming, kayaking, and hiking. The house was well equipped, though I didn't realize until we arrived that the two half-baths are located next to each other in the basement. That means if you're sleeping in one of the lofts, it's two flights down at night to use the facilities.

So glad you enjoyed your stay! Squam is beautiful and we’re fortunate to be in an unspoiled corner.
On the bathrooms, trust me I know! What can I say, my late father designed to put them all in the basement to make it safer and easier to turn the water off for the winter. If and when we rebuild and expand, though, we’ll address that issue!
You are welcome back next year and again I’m so glad you enjoyed your visit.
This house was perfect for our group of 3 kids and 2 adults. Kids enjoyed "kids quarters" and some freedom. Everything was as described, and the house was super quiet at night. Great proximity to 5 finger point trails and hiking. Very quiet cove.
Couple notes for future renters- As others have mentioned it is a bit of a walk to the lake, and the bathrooms are in the basement. For our group this was perfectly fine. Might not be for others with mobility limitations.
Also- If you bring a boat and the lake is down more than 1 foot there are two rocks on the east side of the dock that are in range of hitting a skeg on an outboard or I/O motor. For us, lake was down 1 foot+ they were 1.5 feet below surface- while standing on them my knees were out of water. The West side of the dock is free and clear all the way in with no obstructions. Floating dock was great!
Unfortunately, my family's camp on Squam lake was sold a few years ago, and finding good rentals on the lake is near impossible! I stumbled across this listing and was immediately impressed by the owners' responsiveness to my messages! The house is so campy (but clean and well organized!) and perfect for Squam. The little hike down to the lake was one of my kid's favorite parts of our vacation, and we loved how quiet the cove was. I can't tell you how much we appreciated having a place to land on the lake this summer, we had an absolute blast...THANK YOU!!!
Perfect location on the lake with easy access to mountain trails. The cabin is well supplied with kayaks and floats. Lovely deck with gas grill. A ladder to one of the lofts would make the cabin challenging for some guests. The host and caretaker were easily reached and helpful. We enjoyed our stay.

Thanks Carrie! So good to hear the kayaks and floats and grill etc. helped you enjoy your stay.
Yes, what I call the "ladder-like stairs" to the loft in the small cabin is definitely not for the very young or the very old. Way back when as teenagers my siblings and I loved being able to escape up there.
The loft in the big cabin has regular stairs; that's the master bedroom.
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay!
A perfect Squam Cottage on the lake. Sleeping arrangements are unique as parents can sleep in large cabin and kids - up to 4 - in the small cabin and have their own space. It was great for our teenagers. Squam is a beautiful place and this home a great launching point for all the lake and region has to offer.
After our second visit in two years, we love the place as much as ever, and hope to come back again soon. The only dropped star is an acknowledgement of the fact that this is a rustic cabin in the woods, so you can't expect a hermetically sealed, pristine environment. A few harmless critters and cobwebs come with the territory. Other than that, this is a charming, lovingly maintained place . And the location makes it extra special: a beautiful, quiet cove on a stunning lake...perfect for swimming, kayaking, fishing, sailing, etc. If you want peace and tranquility (Squam is remarkably uncrowded), this is one of the nicest spots on the lake. And the flora and fauna are amazing. Great hiking trails can be accessed directly from the cabin and, though the cabin feels quite secluded, it is only 15-20 mins away from excellent food & baked goods! All-round a perfect vacation getaway.

Cozy log cabin w/ great access to lake and trails
A thoroughly enjoyable stay. Owner was very communicative and helpful. The log cabin is exactly that, a log cabin. Nothing fancy but very cozy with basic amenities. Only steps to the lake and a private dock. Easy walking access to the trailhead up to Rattlesnake Mountain or the trails that encircle Five Finger Point.

About the host

Why they chose this property
The smaller of the two attached log cabins was built by my family to fulfill my father's dream of having an Abraham Lincoln-style, real log cabin in the wilderness -- at first with no electricity or running water. Little by little the family added those amenities -- and then had a larger cabin built and attached to the first. Now it's homey and comfortable but retains the spirit of the outdoors.
What makes this property unique
A true log cabin with exposed beams and open sleeping areas, mainly in lofts. There are hardly any doors. Fall asleep listening to the loons in our corner of Squam Lake -- True Cove -- where reportedly the loons from "On Golden Pond" were filmed. The house is a quiet sanctuary the feels like a world apart from the stresses of our daily lives. Kids love splashing in the stream and catching frogs.
