About this property

Secluded Island Beach Home - Starcut Cottage

Welcome to Starcut Cottage, our dream home on our favorite island. When we stayed in this 5 star rated home in the spring of 2022 we knew it was the vacation home we had always wanted. When we had the opportunity to purchase it a few months later we new we couldn't pass it up.

ABOUT STARCUT COTTAGE: The beauty and seclusion of this barrier island {accessible only by boat or small plane} will captivate your senses and restore your soul. It offers a slower paced vacation in a peaceful environment, perfect for taking a break from the stress of daily life. Come make some everlasting memories at our well appointed vacation home. Built in 2019 this home stood the test of Hurricane Ian, and features a bright, open floor plan home with cathedral ceilings and 8 foot doorways. There is a master suite with 1 king bed, a guest room with a king bed and a guest room with 2 full size beds. If you are traveling with little ones you'll appreciate the toddler bed and pack-n-play for additional bedding options.

Sink in to our comfy living room sofas or lay back to snooze on our breezy, screened porch while you watch the local tortoises stroll by. Each area has been thoughtfully furnished and each room (and the pool area) has smart tv's so you won't miss a thing {unless you want to}. Take a dip any time of day in our landscaped, in-ground, private saltwater pool. Enjoy al-fresco dining with our outdoor kitchen and bar area. We provide high speed internet, all necessary towels and toiletries, a golf cart for your use and more!

ABOUT THE ISLAND: This peaceful, private island boasts long stretches of secluded beaches and is accessed only by boat or small plane on a private, grass airstrip. The island is approximately 4-miles long and a half-mile at its widest. A little more than half of the island is owned by the state of Florida and is managed as a preserve. This geo-park looks much the way it was 400 years ago–untouched by man but weather worn by hurricanes past and recent. It is visited by hundreds of birds, some nesting on the shoreline. Protected birds like Plovers have been spotted nesting in this area. Other birds to be seen are American Bald Eagles, Osprey, Terns, of many varieties, Roseate Spoonbills, Wood Storks, Kingfishers, Black Oystercatchers, Skimmers, Brown Pelican, White Pelican, Great Blue Heron, and many more.

You will be lured by the calm and privacy of extraordinary natural beauty. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets are yours for the taking. Secluded beaches invite shelling, swimming, fishing or just watching the manatees and dolphins play. Lush vegetation begs you to bicycle, walk, jog or golf car ride along the trails.

North (Upper) Captiva is part of the Lee Island Coast barrier island chain in South West Florida. Nearby airports include RSW (Fort Myers, FL) and, our favorite, Punta Gorda. North Captiva Island makes you feel "off the grid" with just enough amenities to meet your family needs or get a few tasks done while you're away. There are a few restaurants on the island including a recent addition of a food truck style stand. There are no cars, paved roads, high rises or crowds on this tropical paradise.

WELCOME: Put your worries behind you in this island paradise. Our home is your home. We will provide you with instructions on how to make this vacation go smoothly with help with everything from booking a ferry to sourcing your groceries. Come see why we fell in love with this place and have come back year after year. HOW TO GET HERE: Travel to North Captiva should begin with checking on great flights to one of the major international airports nearby. SW Florida International (RSW) is a quiet and convenient airport to traverse. Mostly on One Level and very easy to access the parking areas, navigating it is truly a pleasure. Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) is now serviced by Allegiant and Frontier airlines, between these two providers, there is now a gateway for direct flights from many more cities and at value to boot.

Tampa (TPA), Sarasota (SRQ ), and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) are a good distance away to the North or East but airfare deals often make it rewarding to travel up to 2 hours by car down to Pine Island.

By Car:

Fabulous, Fabulous, Fabulous !
I can’t say enough positive things about Starcut cottage. My husband, adult daughter and 6 yo grandson spent a wonderful week enjoying the pool, screen porch, games and outdoor toys, the well appointed kitchen and comfortable beautifully decorated home. Shally’s provided great service for groceries and when we needed propane for the grill. We plan to return to Starcut for future vacations on North Captiva Island.

Wonderful stay, will definitely be back!!!
Starcut Cottage was absolutely perfect for my family (husband and 13 month old baby)! The home was immaculate, fully renovated and clean. Everything you’d need for a trip to NCI was available at this house. Excellent pool, super comfy beds, all the baby equipment, beach chairs and umbrellas etc. The house is just a short cart ride to the beach and the golf cart was in proper working order. This was our 3rd time on the island and this home was by far the best we’ve stayed at. Absolutely amazing experience and we will definitely be back! Thank you!

In 2011we (Mike and April) found North Captiva Island and brought our son Morgan and daughter Mia (then 9 & 6) down for a short visit in a Safety Harbor townhouse. Not really knowing what to expect we explored the island, played in the ocean and fell in love with the slow pace and secluded atmosphere. Since then, we've come back each year and every time the island meets us where we are and forces us to put away the technology, pick up the beachball and recall memories that bring smiles to our faces. During each visit we talked about what we would do if we had our own house on the island. We dreamed about our perfect home and the features it would have. A few important things for us were comfy beds, a kitchen with all the supplies needed, cheery decor and a golf cart that didn't die on the way back from getting ice cream. In the spring of 2022 we booked our annual stay and accidentally found the perfect home. At the time it was a 5 star rated home called Blue Tortuga. (We knew it would be good since our Golden Doodle's name was Tortuga) The color and decor of the house were my favorites. The pool was the perfect temperature. The ground floor kitchen allowed Mike to grill in comfort. It was our perfect house. Several weeks after our stay, we saw that Blue Tortuga was listed for sale and we bought it almost immediately. The name Starcut Cottage was inspired by our apple orchard and event venue in West Michigan, Frugthaven Farm. A "starcut" is when you cut an apple horizontally. The seeds form the shape of a star and that star looks a lot like a starfish. You can see an actual starcut apple in our cottage logo and you can often find starfish on the east side of the island near the point house. Welcome to our dream home on North Captiva. We hope you come back often and watch your family fall in love with the island just like we did. April & Mike

Why they chose this property

North Captiva is accessible only by boat {or a small plane} and on that 30 minute ferry ride you can feel the stress and worries of daily life float away. It's a quiet place with just enough activity to keep you entertained but not enough to require a schedule. Our daily routine is something like wake up when we want, squeeze some grapefruits to mix with Titos, take a walk in the expansive preserve, find a few pretty shells... once we're hot from the morning sun we'll sink in to the refreshing pool and think about what we might have for lunch. The only visitors we see are the neighborhood gopher tortoise or local birds. Occasionally a vacationer stops by to ask if we have any lemons they can use for their Coronas at sunset. North Captiva isn't for everyone. If you love the hustle and bustle of busy Florida roadways, mini golf courses with ice cream fueled kids, theme parks requiring a 60 minute wait for a 2 minute thrill or constant distractions from the news, emails or text messages you might not love the island like we do. But if you can appreciate having a beach all to yourself; love the thrill of seeing manatees surface; get a chill from spotting dolphins jumping or feeding or crave time to spend doing nothing and everything with the ones you love, North Captiva just might be your new favorite place.

What makes this property unique

You have options when choosing a vacation home on North Captiva. We love that Starcut Cottage has all of its living spaces on one level. The only stairs to navigate are the ones from the ground level up. You'll love having a beverage refrigerator, grill, tv and bar all on the pool level. Our bedrooms have modern furniture and thoughtful, simple decor. You'll sink in to a King size bed at night and feel refreshed in our lovely tiled shower. While on North Captiva a top notch property management company will make all the difference to ensure that your stay is seamless and worry free. We have chosen Shally's Seashells Management to care for our home and our guests. They consistently receive 5 star reviews and will be at your call for any needs throughout your stay. If you're looking for a home that feels like home we believe Starcut Cottage is one of the best of the best.
