- Boathouse to store your lake toys when not in use, as well as items that we provide for use during your stay (kayak oars, life vests, etc.)
You can reach us here via the app or via phone, text, or email.
We will also give you the phone number of our manager who lives just down the street for emergencies.

Our home is in a gated community in a remote area, which is part of what people love about it! We live about 1/4 mile down a well-maintained gravel road.
There is no public transportation, so you will need your own vehicle to get around.
There are also lots of fire roads and places to explore if you have an off-road vehicle or ATV.

Communication:
There is NO cell service in the area. We have cordless phones scattered around the house to use for calls (unlimited long-distance calling included) and satellite Wi-Fi though.
The entire area has extremely limited internet availability with only satellite or very slow DSL service available. Our internet at the chalet is via satellite, and works well for basic email and web browsing most of the time, but can be affected by weather (just like other satellite services). It is kind of slow and they say that it cannot be used for real-time voice and video services or VPNs because of the delay with the signal going up to the satellite and back.
We lived and worked from here full-time for almost three years though, but it is definitely slow. Email and basic web browsing work okay, and streaming video just needs a little more time than normal, so it depends on what you want to use it for!
If you absolutely need internet or cell phone service (for an online meeting or something), then your best bet is to drive the twenty minutes down to Andrews. The public library has WiFi and there is good cell service.
Social Media:

We would love for you to join our community! We post local events and share photos from our guests, and even some of our own. We also welcome your reviews, both here and there. It's because of YOU that our family home gets to stay in the family as we continue to freshen its look. Just search social media for NantahalaLakeChalet to find us!

Lovely stay on Nantahala Lake!
Beautiful property/home, quiet, very clean in a gated community. Uncrowded, easy to find area. Comfortable rooms, well stocked kitchen with new appliances, new washer/dryer downstairs. Deck/balcony propane grill was perfect:) Seasonally too warm for us to use fireplaces or balcony fire table... Saw deer, many hummingbirds, one small bear! Overall, a wonderful stay at Nantahala Lake:)

Very nice lake house
We stayed for five nights in July. The hosts are great with excellent and thorough communication. They seem like genuinely nice people and offered a free night’s stay (unfortunately we couldn’t come early) in addition to what we booked just because the house was open that night! Very nice house that was quiet and the lake itself is cool in the summer and not overpopulated. We rented a boat from a local marina that was delivered to the dock directly. Overall, I wouldn’t hesitate to book again. Thank you.

Happiness on the Lake!
This lake house was exactly what we had hoped for! The view was absolutely spectacular! We found the property welcoming and comfortable, a “home away from home.” We particularly enjoyed kayaking (provided by owners), sitting outside on the balcony drinking wine and making s’mores! The peacefulness and beauty of Lake Nantahala is everything we had hoped for. We were able to prepare several enjoyable meals in a well-stocked kitchen. The beds were extremely comfortable. The gas fireplace was particularly appreciated during this year’s first cold snap. Louis and Robynn were very welcoming, attentive and responsive. We plan on returning next year! Thank you for sharing your home with our family!

About the host

Hosted by Robynn & Louis Nafziger

Host profile image
Hi! We're Robynn and Louis, and we are a bit of nature-meets-city people and love life in the mountains! "She" is a producer and health coach, and "He" is a pilot...and both proud puppy parents!

We recently relocated to the West Coast for a new job, so now we are excited to be able to share our piece of the mountain with you. We have greatly enjoyed the experience of hosting our chalet and getting to (virtually) meet our guests and see how much they have enjoyed their time at our place!

Why they chose this property

We want to welcome you to our home! While this house has been in our family for nearly 30 years, only three years ago we began remodeling it! Brand new central air/heat, whole house dehumidifier, bamboo flooring, updated bathrooms, fresh indoor low-VOC paint, and all new appliances! We still have more to do, so each time you stop by, you'll likely see something new!

What makes this property unique

Nantahala is where the Blueridge mountains meet the Smokey Mountains within the Appalachian mountains! “Nantahala” is a Cherokee word meaning “land of the noon day sun,” a fitting name for the Nantahala Gorge, where the sun only reaches the valley floor at midday.

Nantahala Lake:
With 42 miles (68 km) of shoreline, the lake offers recreational opportunities that include swimming, boating, skiing, and many other activities. Fishing is another popular activity; aficionados will find largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, trout, salmon, catfish, and many different species of panfish. The lake water is very clear; there is almost no dissolved silt/clay. It is also the second highest lake (3000 foot elevation) east of the Mississippi!

If you enjoy hiking or mountain biking, there are hundreds of trails all around, including the Appalachian and Bartram trails.

Nantahala National Forest:
Encompassing more than a half-million acres of pristine woodlands, with elevations from a high of 5,800 feet to a low of 1,200 feet. The NNF is the largest of the four national forests in North Carolina. Enjoy motor boating, bridle trails, fishing, nature/hiking trails, picnic areas, waterfalls, swimming, zip lining, and so much more! Our home sits at a comfortable 3200 foot elevation!

Nantahala River:
Popular for whitewater rafting with numerous outfitters available. The Nantahala Outdoor Center is a popular place to visit for outdoor activities!
