Visit the elegant, colorful market in Forte dei Marmi, the popular posh town, on Wednesdays. On an open-air stage by the lake in Torre del Lage, famous opera performances by Puccini take place in July and August. A detour to Carrara to see the white marble quarries is definitely recommended. A trip to the island of Elba is also interesting (approx. 139 km to Piombino and 1 hour ferry crossing).
