About this property
Cottages on Sand Lake - The Lazy Lakehouse
Relaxing two bedroom cottage with a view located on beautiful Sand Lake. Cottage has a deck to sit outside and enjoy your morning coffee. This lakehouse cottage is thoughtfully decorated in a nautical theme. Sunroom right off living room facing the water. Great fishing right from the dock or you can take a row boat out for further adventures. Paddle boat, row boats, paddle boards and kayaks are also provided. Sand Lake County Park located two blocks away to put your boat in. Sand lake is a 102 acre all sports lake with great fishing. Property does have a cement seawall at the water. The Lake House is one of five properties we rent out on the property.
This cozy cottage is perfect for four, but it can sleep up to seven. There are two bedrooms, plus a queen sleeper sofa in the sunroom which can be used as a third bedroom as well as a futon sofa in the living room. One bedroom with queen mattress and one bedroom with a twin bunk bed. The kitchen is small but does allows for meal preparation for dining, and an outdoor grill is also provided to dine on the deck. We also provide WIFI and smart TV with Hulu, PhiloTV, Espn+ and Disney+ are included. Family games and puzzles are also provided for late nights in.
Located on Sand Lake in Nottawa Township in Amish country, it’s just a quick 30 minute drive to Shipshewana for flea market shopping (May - Sept.) and great Amish culture and cuisine. Yoder’s Country Market a 4 minute drive towards Centerville. Great golfing nearby with Island Hills Golf Club being just a 6 minute drive and St. Joe County Golf Club less then a mile away. Swiss Valley Ski and snowboard area 34 minutes away for winter time fun!
Paddle boat, row boats, paddle boards and kayaks available for free but are shared among all cottage guests. First come, first shared. Water trampoline, life jackets and yard games available also. Plenty to go around. All 3 docks are shared and available for guests to use. The Lakefront is a common area and shared by other guests. We also have a large fire pit in the common area.
The lake is clean and not excessively "weedy". Sand lake does have a sandy bottom! There are no lilly pads. My kids love jumping right off the dock! The lake does have a cement seaswall. If you prefer a more "beachy" experience, there is a sandy beach located at the county park just a few blocks or kayak ride away!
A well stocked convince store, Sand Lake Grocery, is just a block away and sells amazingly good brats and has a huge ice cream shop in the back. Great made to order pizza and burgers too! A definite must.
We do allow pets with a $50 per pet fee which must be collected separately after you make your reservation. Please include the breed and size of your pet when making your reservation. You will also be required to agree to our pet policy.
All guests must be disclosed and on your reservation! No parties or family gatherings are allowed. The lakefront is for registered guests only. We do this to keep the swimming area uncrowded and enjoyable for all of our guests. If your reservation is for less then the allowed number of guests at your cottage then you may request to have visitors (only up to the allowed number of guests) but permission must be obtained before hand. If you would like to have a family gathering we recommend Sand Lake County Park. Unauthorized guests will result in a $100 per day fee.
Keypad on front door for entry. We are available by phone anytime if needed. Large parking lot on property but only two parking spots available for this cottage.
If you would like early check in or late check out I will do my best to accommodate. There is a fee of $20 per hour. Please be aware that it’s takes up to 4 hours to clean and do laundry in between guests so availability is subject to prior/future guests requests.
Damage deposit is just a pre-authorization on credit card and is automatically released 5 days after departure.
Addition fees:
$50 per pet pet fee (if you would like to bring a pet)
$20 per hour for early or late check out if you would like to check in or out outside of our listed arrival/departure times. Subject to availability.
These fees can be added to your reservation after booking or you can pay cash on the day of your arrival.

Beautiful property and wonderful property owner. We loved staying here. The cabin was clean and very comfortable. We look forward to staying there again.
Comfortable & clean with a wonderful view of the lake! Relaxing from the moment we arrived…the a/c was on and we got settled in immediately!
Great weekend…already looking forward to our next visit!
We had a great time at the lake, they have tons of water toys. small boat, kayaks, paddle boards, inflatables, life vests etc. We loved the easy access, some lake cottages can be difficult to find. Not these, It’s literally right off the main road.
We had a relaxing weekend at the cottage. Loved the decor, it looked even better than in the pictures. And the cottage is overlooking the lake so you can sit in the sun room to watch the water or sit on the deck. There is also a hammock near the door of the cottage that was great for reading a book and viewing the water. The cottage was clean and well socked with all of the essentials. We walked to the gas station for pizza and ice cream. Jennifer was very responsive and easy to work with. We loved our stay and would highly recommend.

Thank you for staying and we are so glad you enjoyed it. We would love to have your back anytime!
Working for a CPA means being unable to get away during the typical spring break. So I always try to take a trip in early May. This year it was me, my adult son and adult niece. We come to Michigan often but usually stay in a hotel. This year I decided to try something different, and I'm very glad I did. The cottage sits right on the lake, you can hear the sounds of the water from the sunroom. There were all kinds of boats & kayaks available along with a gas grill and a fire pit. My son loved being able to fish right off of the dock and both kids had a good time rowing across the lake to the nearby beach. It was close enough for us to make our annual trek to Fort Custer National Cemetery and enjoy an afternoon in Battle Creek. Everything is exceptionally clean and there are lots of little touches including items you may not have thought to bring with you. The host is very communicative and helpful. We hope to visit again in the near future.

Stephen and I are a blended family of 7. We have 5 kids together and love our time at the lake house. We live in Kalamazoo but love when we get time to get away to the lake.
Why they chose this property
We bought the property in 2021 with the hopes that our family of 7 can enjoy it and to be able to share with other families also. We hope that you can make lasting memories!
