The River Moon Retreat is a relaxing midcentury modern-style home with a variety of fun amenities and scenic views minutes from town and the park. Features include a spacious “California room” with a pool table and yoga area; various sitting and dining areas inside and out; a NEW hot tub and horseshoe pit in the backyard; and some of our favorite board games, card games, and books. We also have a Level 2 Electric Vehicle charger & solar panels so your stay can be environmentally friendly!
The house has three bedrooms that sleep two people each; a living room, kitchen and dining area with an open floor plan offering views toward the front and rear; a spacious “California room” (enclosed porch) with a pool table; an outdoor patio and hot tub; and a front and back yard.
The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking equipment (including pots and pans, coffee machine, toaster, etc.), and the living room includes a smart TV, smart speaker, and work station, as well as books to read, cards and board games to play, and a guitar to strum. Whether you want to plug-in or unplug, everything is ready for you.
The California room has a pool table, a yoga area with mats and blocks, a day bed for luxurious naps, a desk, sitting areas, and relaxing views of the high desert mountains.
The patio has a picnic table, a swinging bench, and an outdoor couch with coffee table, and has a walkway to the hot tub that comfortably seats five (but six could squeeze in!).
There is also a horse shoe range and tabletop fire pit in the backyard.
You will be sent a number code for the door prior to arrival. Your code will be active ONLY during the time of your stay. You will have full access to the house and property during your stay.
The River Moon Retreat is in the “Hidden River” area of North Joshua Tree, in the Avenidas neighborhood. We’re just 3 miles north of the saloon, restaurants, artist colony, and visitor center in town, but the views make it feel like you’re away from it all. Relax in the hot tub, dine out on the patio, play a game of horseshoes in the back yard, and enjoy the star-filled sky at night.
We're also just 3 miles southwest of the Noah Purifoy Desert Art Museum of Assemblage Art, and 15 miles east of Pioneertown.
The easiest way to get around Joshua Tree is by car. Guests should park inside the gate at the house. The carport can fit two cars if they aren’t too big.
The River Moon Retreat has central air and heat, except for the “California room” (the enclosed porch with pool table), which has ceiling fans, a floor space heater for winter, and a floor cooler for summer to keep the room comfortable.
The TV is a streaming device for your use, with high speed cable internet service. We also have an Amazon Echo Smart Speaker to listen to music or other programming.

About the host
Hosted by Tyson Roberts
Traveling and living in interesting places, in the US and internationally, is one of my greatest pleasures in life. One of my favorite places to stay with my family is Joshua Tree - we’ve been coming out every year since 2007. We’re super excited to have a home to help others enjoy one of our favorite spots in the world. We've been hosting short term rental guests at this home since 2019 and are thrilled to be hosting now on VRBO!
Why they chose this property
Every time we come to stay at our River Moon Retreat home we immediately feel relaxed. For us, it's in the perfect location - at the end of a quiet street so we feel like we're away from it all but a short drive to town, where we love the restaurants and shops, and a short drive to our favorite spots to visit, the park and Noah Purifoy museum.
The kitchen is fully stocked for cooking at home, the open layout of the living area is great for socializing, and there's a lot to do indoors and outside. Outside we have a patio with a swinging bench and picnic table, a hot tub (great year round) and cowboy pool (refreshing in the hot season), and a horseshoe pit. Indoors we have a pool table and lots of card games, board games, and books.

What makes this property unique
Before we bought the house, some of our favorite homes to stay at had a pool table, a hot tub, a horse shoe pit, and other things to do, so we made sure to provide all those amenities in our home. Our guests often comment that our kitchen is better stocked than most short-term rentals they've stayed at. Our location isn't as secluded as some, but we like being fairly close to town yet still have that feeling of privacy, and we also have some nice neighbors we sometimes talk to or listen to their music when we're out.
