Truly an Iconic Gem!
Our family of 15 plus 1 infant recently stayed at this property to attend a wedding nearby. This place is incredible, the pics don't do it justice. Clean, comfortable beds, and big enough so people could spread out or gather. There is also a stunning view of the water from almost every room! We loved the woodwork and the bar area, and the racquetball court was a huge hit as well. The kitchen had everything we needed and the grounds were expansive with lots of great walking trails. Alyson was awesome to deal with and quickly responded to all my inquiries. We had so much fun at this fabulous home, would love to return someday! Thank you Alyson for sharing your beautiful home!

Spectacular Stay
The house was unique and fun and it exceeded our expectations. The property was beautiful and the rental provided a great setting for our family reunion. Alyson was in close communication and responsive to our questions. The cousins especially enjoyed the indoor racquetball court. Thanks for a wonderful weekend.

The Best
Stay here!!!!! I was a little confused on how the listing worked, but I finally figured it out! They have a huge wooded property right on the lake that has a main estate (dark wood and very retro) that is connected to a pavilion (listed separately) that is perfect for entertaining a large group. Lastly there is a third house up the hill (more updated home in pictures). We only rented the estate and the pavilion. This house is AMAZING!!!! It is perfect for kids! The hide and seek was epic! Be prepared for a very 1970’s feel. It has a lot of wild decor choices that I personally found to be fantastic! I think if the house was totally renovated, it would lose a lot of its charm. The estate has 8 bedrooms (1 has a half bath and 1 has no bath and one shares a bath). All of the rooms were comfy and had plenty of space. The main bedroom has a huge bathroom and then a small walk in shower, a fun brown tub (did not use) and a sauna (also didn’t use). The kitchen was great, definitely could use a new oven, stovetop and microwave, but all worked perfectly well. They also have a large fridge and an additional fridge just off the kitchen in the laundry room. There were basic cooking items (pots, pans, plates, bowls, spatulas, silverware). The racquetball court and the pool table were big hits! If you take the walk down the long hallway to the separate pool pavilion, you will find a huge open space with tons of windows. This is definitely the “party/ballroom” of the estate. It is rented separately and you would not want to rent just the estate or just the pool pavilion , you need both for the experience. This is where the pool is located. It is winter, so the pool was covered, but I can only imagine how pretty it would be in the summer. The views are really amazing. There are no real bedrooms in the pavilion. There is a “room” off to one side and then a huge loft that is portioned off to make (2) rooms. If you are looking for privacy from your guests, then you definitely would want to stay over in the estate side. This area was the perfect place for our teenagers to hang out. There is a small kitchen, 2 large, bathrooms and a lounge area with a tv. There really are zero cons to this house! We were unable to use the fireplaces since they run on propane and they were not full. They did send propane but we still couldn’t figure out how to turn them on, but that’s a personal problem :) We will 100% be back!!! This house really is fantastic!!!

About the host

I am Alyson, the host. Our property is managed by Tina who you will be speaking to directly when arranging your stay on Our 100 acres estate private property in Midlothian.
She has "Super Host" status and she will take excellent care of you from beginning to end of your stay.

My parents are the owners of this unique home. They are Jim and Paulanne Thacker. They raised 3 girls and loved life, friends, and family. They built the home knowing they wanted family and friends to join them for all occasions. We celebrated holidays, birthdays, weddings, and business functions among others with many special people for 40-plus years.

For several years our father drove a car at Southside Speedway in the late model division "just for kicks". Memorabilia can be seen in the pool room and garage. He had many unique hobbies and was certainly a unique man. Our father passed away in 2010.

The home construction took over 3 years and was completed in 1980. Our parents along with their architect enjoyed designing all of the many details of the home. The exterior rooflines and exterior windows inside became a theme throughout.
The pavilion was added 15 years later and was most enjoyed by family and friends alike.

Our father and our sister Lori established a wedding business "Celebrations At The Reservoir" offering multiple beautiful wedding locations in and around the estate property (excluding the main house/Iconic Gem) for 17 years. Due to our sister, Lori's death in 2019 Celebrations terminated the wedding business in 2021. Shortly after Lori's death, our mother Paulanne moved to a smaller home.

My sister Carol and I then took over the management of the estate and properties and were then faced with the upkeep expenses. Knowing how our parents enjoyed sharing their home we decided to prepare the homes for short-term rental and begin to share our blessings in this way.

We hope you all enjoy the beauty that we love and have appreciated for many years.

Why they chose this property

Our parents purchased this property thinking they would own horses as our sister Lori loved to ride. They never owned horses but they did have cows on the property and kept them in the field near the Manor house for a while. The Manor house was the only home on the 100 acre property when Jim and Paulanne purchased it. They rented the home as a "long term" rental before it became the office and wedding site of "Celebrations".

Certainly the beauty of the reservoir was also a draw when purchasing the property.
When purchased in the mid 70's, Woolridge Road was a "country" road and the popular neighborhoods Woodlake and Brandermill did not exist. The area has changed considerably through the years. Now, new neighborhoods and shopping is abundant.

What makes this property unique

Our parents loved enjoying walks along the water and after building the home Jim and Paulanne began to create the walkways and gazebos. They hired a man named Gene Morris who was a stone mason. Gene spent years building stone walkways and walls around the property. Gene became a dear friend of our parents as well as did many men and women who worked on the property. Our parents were truly opened arms loving people.
Our mother takes pleasure knowing that you also will also enjoy the walkways and "sitting areas" as mom called them around the property.
