About this property
Island Escape - Spacious 4 BR House with Car included!
Long Island is a tranquil 400 year old fishing community known for its beautiful white sandy beaches and rocky coast. - A wonderful escape from the rest of the world.
Our island house is a spacious 15 year old, 3 story year-round house with bedrooms and baths on the 1st and 2nd floors and the main living area on the 3rd floor. My 4 year old grandson described it as The Upside Down house which is now what many islanders call it!
Previous renters have said it is the perfect place for a family vacation. The 3rd floor has an open floor plan with lots of room for everyone,… in the long galley kitchen, or by kids corner (Check under the counter for Legos!), in the living room and dining area, or on the deck.
The four bedrooms on the first and 2nd floors and the wrap-around first floor farmers porch provide private spaces when you want a little peace and quiet. Each bedroom has a dvd player and a tv. We have a video library and the house does have wifi, but there is no tv channel reception. There is one smart tv with Amazon Prime in the living room.
You’ll find bikes, beach chairs, and outdoor toys in the attached garage and tool shed and board games, cards, and lots of books throughout the house. If you start a book and don’t have time to finish it, you are welcome to take it with you!
Our water supply is from a deep artesian well. The water is processed by a high-end water system that filters out the high mineral content that is commonly found on the island. So our water is drinkable, safe for kids, and good tasting, which is often not the case at other houses on the island. However we are on a small island, surrounded by salt water with only one source of fresh water. So please follow water conservation strategies. Thanks!
The Boat House is a small grocery store with quality goods but limited selection. (Guests usually buy the bulk of their groceries on the mainland and freight them over on the ferry. ) Long also has a sandwich/pizza/ice cream shop with a large deck, as well as a gift shop, and a library with wifi. Pop into the historical society or into the new Community Center and ask about children’s activities . Or schedule your vacation so that you catch the 4th of July parade or the Lobster Boat Races!

About the host
Hosted by Stephanie Morris

My brother Rob and I were born and brought up in Portland Maine with our 8 other siblings. He is the youngest and I am the oldest. Our mom occasionally and secretly would escape the insanity of a household of 10 kids, all under the age of 13, to hop on the ferry and head with her darning and a book to the beautiful beaches of Long Island. Years later, after spending much time on the island ourselves, Rob and I built our island house there. It was then I discovered my mother had published her story in a book about special places in Maine and my brother and I got a mention!
Why they chose this property
Our family had been coming to Long Island for summer vacations for over 20 years. It had been a long-time dream to own a place on the island that we could come to year-round and now we do!
What makes this property unique
What makes me in love with this house? I like how the main living quarters are on the third floor - it's like being up in the trees with the birds. Some months you can see the ocean from there.
Also, lunch on the deck, coffee on the farmers porch, snuggled up on a fall night reading a book in front of the fire. At night hearing the surf and the bells on the buoys. And always breathing in that fresh ocean air.
