About this property
Enjoy Sweeping Waterfront View, Watch Lobster Boats from Porch
We close up the cottage during the winter months. Available May 1 - Columbus Day. One-week minimum, Saturday - Saturday, July 1 - Labor Day. Three-day minimum otherwise.
High speed wi-fi and printer.
Three double bedrooms, one twin bedroom. One half-bath, one full bath with tub and hand-held shower, one outside shower.
Our spacious but cozy family cottage is located on a quiet, dead-end shorefront road, just a few yards from the water with an uninterrupted view of Josiah's Cove and then across the sparkling sea 'all the way to Portugal.' It retains the charm of its 100-year history even though we've lovingly restored and equipped it with up-to-date appliances, numerous sky-lights, new mattresses and wireless internet service.
We do not provide linens. Guests who do not bring their own can rent them from a service on the island.
The cottage is perfectly suited for a quiet family holiday. It is not appropriate for large groups or noisy parties. Absolute maximum occupancy is 8. No weddings or other events are allowed.
It's a strictly non-smoking cottage. We are sorry, but we cannot accommodate pets.
The top floor includes the master bedroom with water views, double bed, adjoining full bath with clawfoot tub, and an adjoining children's bedroom with two twin beds. The main level includes two double bedrooms with a half-bath between, along with the kitchen, dining room and living room.
A brick fireplace defines the cathedral-ceilinged living room. But most guests prefer sitting on the front porch to watch the sun rising at dawn, the lobster boats pulling their traps in the early morning, the sail boats passing all day long and the lights of the giant tankers twinkling in the distance at night.
For insurance and safety reasons guests are not allowed to use the fireplace.
Guests may use the barbecues outside, but must provide their own fuel, propane or charcoal, both readily available on the island.
There is a wonderful outdoor shower at the back of the house.
Peaks Island is a safe and quiet family paradise offering beaches, tennis courts, kayaking, fishing (including from the rocks in front of the cottage) and great walking and bike-riding. Bikes and kayaks are available for rent. And it's all just a 20-minute car ferry ride from the shopping, excellent restaurants, movies and first-class art museum of Portland.
The cottage is normally open from Memorial Day through Columbus Day. Please inquire about early May and late October.

We loved every minute we were there - the house is filled with so much character, that it feels like you are going home to grandma's house for a vacation. The View is outstanding. We really enjoyed the Rustic feel and cannot wait to go back.

Again, we're sorry our cleaner called in sick the morning of your arrival. But we're glad you enjoyed your stay, and the view "all the the way to Portugal." We hope you can come back next year!
Older cottage with great porch overlooking Josiah's Cove. Bedrooms are comfortable, 4th bedroom upstairs is a walk through. No indoor shower, only a deep bathtub, but we liked the outdoor shower. It is off the beaten path so very quiet. The porch facing Josiah's Cove is the best!
Wow! Panoramic view, charming, peaceful, wraparound porch, outdoor shower (especially convenient for downstairs sleepers), great kitchen space with adequate tools, and (very important) an owner (Woody) who was very thoughtful and responsive to any issues and needs.
We rented Woody’s cottage with our dear friends who we had not seen in four years, due to the pandemic. We have a history together vacationing on Peaks. Woody’s magical place provided us the perfect setting to reunite. We had such a wonderful time, one for the memory books.
In finishing the review I think this quote from my best friend says it all. “Scott and I loved the vintage ME cottage vibe and enjoyed the quiet location. One never wanted to leave the porch and the view. We would return”.
What a beautiful setting to celebrate my mother’s 70th birthday!
My daughter (Sr in High School), my mother and I had a wonderful girls trip to Peaks Island to relax, see the changing of the seasons and make memories together. We received that and more!
The cottage is rustic and inviting. Minimal in amenities, but quaint nonetheless. A fun trip back in time to simpler times. You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful setting - watching the sun rise over the Atlantic and listening to the waves crash from the large front porch.
One note for potential renters: if you are looking to catch a morning flight, stay in the city the night before. Do not rely on the ferry to get you there in time. You may not get on at your desired time!
I can’t wait to bring the rest of my family back to visit!
This was our second time renting this property and the ocean view from the front porch is unbeatable! The house is spacious, the location is great and the view is amazing! Hope to come back next year.
Our group (couple in our sixties, three adult children and wo young kids) had a fabulous time at Woody’s house— cooking in the well equipped kitchen, sharing meals and reading on the porch, riding bikes (enough for all of us at the house), and exploring. We will definitely return.
This was our 5th stay at Woody's property and loved it again as we have each time previously. Peaks Island is great and its a pleasure to stay at this cottage.
Our crew of five adults and one 16-month old throughly enjoyed this beautiful spot! The view is simply breathtaking and the cottage is full of charm and warm—a true Maine experience. In addition, Woody was incredibly responsive with the reservation as well as wit helpful tips for navigating the ferry and island life. He checked in via text right after we arrived to make sure everything ok which was a great touch. Truly the easiest VRBO experience this group has ever had. We’ve already started planning our next trip!
Just an amazing place to stay. A step back in time but beautifully appointed home... just what we had hoped for. Communication with the owner was wonderful and we surely hope to be back!
Upon arrival, my children went wild for this house — and my wife and I did as well! It is a great location for a family with younger kids. Ours (ages 4 and 6) were kept well occupied by the great books, toys, and the hammock. The adults enjoyed the house just as much — but for different reasons. The view is incredible and the home is so relaxing (even though my wife had to work and FYI the internet connection is great).
Everything was truly as-advertised and Woody was always quick to reply and helpful.
In short — it was a great stay — a wonderfully low-key getaway — and we hope to return!

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Please come back next summer!
Spectacular view, charming house and property, and extremely responsive owner! Couldn't ask for a more relaxing place to renew and recharge. We thought we may travel to the other islands or head into Portland for an evening during our stay but had no desire to leave the property or the island. Really wonderful!

We're so glad you enjoyed the cottage as much as we do. Come back soon!
The view is probably the best on the island. It is gorgeous, and we even saw a bald eagle. The area is quiet and private- and the interior was a true cottage feel and I honestly felt sad when it was time to leave. Thank you Woody for sharing your wonderful home!

stunning views
Stunning views from the oceanfront porch that gets morning and afternoon sun. True Maine cottage on the quieter backshore of Peak's island. The airy cottage has lots of windows, everything you need in the kitchen, a nice yard and outdoor shower. Everything on the island is bikeable. The owner was helpful in setting up the rental and with information to orient us to the cottage and to Peaks. Great vacation week.

Beautiful quiet spot overlooking ocean
Our family of 5, together with friends with a family of 3, had a great time at Woody's cottage on Peak's. It's at the end of a dead end road (2 more quiet houses beyond), and over looking the ocean. When seated on the porch, you feel you are on a boat in the water, and we fell asleep to the sounds of waves at night. Our kids bicycled on the gravel road in front of the house. Woody was very easy to work with, and very responsive. We used Diane's linen & towel service, which we also recommend. We biked from the house to the beach, just over the hill, and to the restaurants and shops on the front side of the island. We hope to return soon!

Recently retired, I hope to spend at least a couple of weeks each summer at the Peaks Island cottage. It's the place to which my children and grandchildren cannot wait to return!
Why they chose this property
We chose Peaks Island because it offered the peace and quiet of a country location only minutes from the restaurants and cultural life of the city of Portland. And we chose our cottage because of its unbeatable ocean view. My mother used to say that gazing out over an expanse of water was good for the soul. She was right.
What makes this property unique
Total relaxation and summer family fun the way it used to be.
Peaks Island is a family summer paradise offering beaches, sailing, fishing, tennis and bicycling on safe roads. You'll see very few cars, but will enjoy stunning ocean views as you pedal or walk around the island. Visitors can shop at the local market or lobster shack and enjoy home-made meals on the porch, eat out at one of three restaurants on the island or sample the broad range of fare offered by chefs (some nationally known) in the city of Portland. Car and passenger ferries make the 20-minute crossing back and forth between mainland and island approximately every hour. Guided tours of the island via golf cart are available, and a visit to the museum dedicated to the Fifth Maine Civil War regiment is a must for history buffs.
