About this property
Captains View Nestled on the Beach
Captains View is a cozy two bedroom beach house overlooking the southern beach and bay of Cherokee Sound. Beach chairs and lay off chairs are nice for relaxing in the sun . The kayaks make for good fun over the shallow water or to fish from . Also included is bikes for sight seeing or trips to the grocery store .
The arrangement of a 14ft boat and outboard motor is your option .This boat can give you access to areas , beaches , channels , shoreline that are not able to be walked to .The front porch is definitely the most frequently used area of the home partly because of the view but also because it provides a shady, secluded, breezy spot to relax during your vacation. It is the perfect place to have your morning coffee, read a book in the afternoon, or retire after a long day of bone fishing. The Pro kayak is a nice addition for fishing the shallows .
The House is situated only a few footsteps away from the Long Dock where you can swim ,fish ,tan ,picnic and relax. There are many flat sand bars to walk on during the low tides; they are great places to find beautiful shells and sea life . Early tides bring in the fish including the allusive 'Bonefish' that rome freely along the shallow banks of Southern Bay. 'The Long Dock ' and its uncounted wooden pieces has with stood many hurricanes sometimes with little reconstruction needed . This dock is a pillar for the community and is loved by the residents, as well as non residents , both old and young, have helped maintain its condition giving them use and enjoyment. There is loads of history to be found around Cherokee from the early days of the settlement so make sure to bring your walking tennis .There are networks of uncharted paths from several hundred of years ago to be explored . There was wooden boats ,vessels and smacks built for many years on the shore of the inner creek. The art work on the living room wall will reveal that time period . You can learn more stories like this by meeting friendly locals of Cherokee and hearing about the history of this place.
Guests can request access to Watching Bay beach, on the ocean side through a private development 'The Reserve at Watching bay '. There is property for sale , with a variety of vacant lot locations .This is all within walking distance, but bicycles are great for riding through town, especially if you need to go to the grocery store. You can also rent a vehicle in Marsh Harbour beforehand to get around the island in if you wish to leave Cherokee Settlement.
The uniqueness of this home is not only what it does have but it doesn’t have. By separating yourself from a land line phone (which we do not have in the home!) you can find other ways to entertain yourselves. Cell phones do work if needed . However, keep in mind that there is free wireless internet access available so you can bring your business with you if you insist! Cable TV will give and added option for relazation and news information if needed . We hope you will come enjoy a peaceful vacation with the ones you love at Captains View in Cherokee.

About the host
Hosted by Glenn Russell

I'm an out going bahamian .I love the outdoors, fishing ,free diving ,boating ,taking my wave runner out for a spin and off roading in a ATV or truck. I have knowledge and first hand experience of the area and trails around Cherokee and over Abaco . I guide on the sea as well as the land .Deep sea charters and guided trips can be arranged and booked .If you have your own boat I can guide and help with sight seeing covering Cherokee area , central Abaco and its cays and almost any part of Abaco .Bird watching , remote beaches and deep woods trips are also an option for charter . Featured trips to Piggy Ville to feed the swimming pigs are very enjoyable . Deep forest fresh water caves are also a good guided tour . My education from high school in the Bahamas to College degrees in Florida help me to guide in a very detailed way . On a deep forest trip we will trail none groomed paths leading to unfrequented wooded areas and ocean beaches . A good level of fitness is needed along with certain supplies .
There are parks on the land and sea under that are under the supervision of The National Trust . These are not my usual areas but could be included . My paths will not be labeled with signs , tress and plants will be visible but no labels . Birds will be wild and very beautiful but not trained .

Why they chose this property
I purchased this home back in 1993 because of its panoramic sea-coast view. Captains View is named after its original owner Capt. Roy P. Russell J.P. This was his retirement home and may be mines as well one day! Although I didn't buy it initially to rent it out, after renovating it many friends and visitors asked me to open it up to the rental possibilities. In order to share the undiscovered area I have rented it only to a select few. This home is very precious to me and my daughters so I'm selective about who I rent to.
What makes this property unique
The house is so ideally located that once you arrive just relax and slide right in ,the beach and shallow water will wash your travels away .Bonefish.....Bonefish on the door step . Should you choose a rental car /van it can be parked close for easy access . Every where you want to go is accessible by foot, a bike or skateboard. If you come by boat the water is deep enough off the long dock that you can anchor out in the bay and see it from the porch. The two orange kayaks and the 3 person yellow kayak can be launched right from the house beach. The front porch will offer you the best sunrises and sunsets. The front porch is always a good place to avoid the sun and catch conversation with guest or locals. For people with young children they can watch their kids play safely on the beach less than 50 feet away from the porch. Another unique benefit is you don't have to go far to catch a nights meal. Simply cast out your hook and line of The Long Dock and your sure to catch a feast. The front and back areas of the house are great for children and adults hanging around ,talking, laughing and listening to music. You can crack coconuts ( careful they can stain )and make coconut water, eat sea grapes, cocoplums , catch fish and retire after eating to a nice movie in the living room. Snorkeling areas are within walking distance and a boat can get to reefs that are offshore .Captains View is a special place that many guest keep quite for there own continued pleasure .
