We strive to provide all of the comforts of home with a clean and relaxing beach vacation vibe. Home is at the end of a private dirt drive and located on a 1/2 lot. Great views of the James River. Property had everything we needed. Located near all the attractions we wanted to see. Weather was great the first couple of days. We saw eagles near the property. We enjoyed our stay so much. We enjoyed playing on our own private beach. The water was so warm each day! Fishing was good on the James River as well. We loved how the house was at the end of the lane and surrounded by trees,. It gave us a very private feel. If you LOVE Bald eagles this is a place for you to stay. We can't wait to book our next stay!

If sitting by the water with river breezes gently blowing, enjoying the quiet (occasionally interrupted by honking Canadian geese with their broods of adorable fluffball chicks, or passing ships), walking along a shell-strewn beach at sunset, or sitting in rockers on the screened porch watching the sun set over the water to the evening symphony of crickets sounds heavenly to you, you have found your vacation home. We enjoyed a wonderful respite from the stress of our lives relaxing here.

The owner was very responsive and the property was clean and well equipped.
The beach was fun to explore even in winter and we found several fossilized sharks teeth.
It's only a short drive to the ferry for Jamestown and Williamsburg but far away enough to be quiet and with surprisingly dark skies for stargazing.

Thank you! We’re so glad the cottage was the perfect family getaway—quiet and peaceful, yet an easy hop to Williamsburg. Love that you enjoyed the beach, kayaking, and the Jamestown ferry (dolphins = bonus!). We’d be thrilled to host you again. —Kevin & Jamie
The most thoughtfully-prepared VRBO we've ever stayed at
In the last 15 months, we've stayed in 13 different VRBOs (lot of recent travel), and this property was the best-prepared spot we've ever stayed at. So many thoughtful details (extra toothbrushes / toiletries / kitchen supplies), the *softest* sheets, fantastic layout for our family to enjoy a few days right on the river.
Location is great for bopping out to Williamsburg for day trips but enjoying the morning / evening in seclusion. Watched dolphins from the back porch in the morning and loved the time strolling the beach and taking the kayaks out.

What a view! Off the beaten path but perfect in every way. The living space is small but the screened porch made up for it. The weather prevented use of the kayaks but still enjoyed the water. The felled tree made for lovely pictures on the river bank. The golden eagles were also a treat as the sun rose over the water.

Greetings Sadiyah!! Thanks so much for the kind words and great review. We enjoyed hosting you and would love to have you back any time. So glad you were able to enjoy the amazing views, the river, and just chilling on the back porch. That tree washed up a few months ago and we kind-of liked how it looked, so we left it there. The river is powerful, things come and go, so hopefully it will hang out with us for a while. Thanks again, and we'd love to have you back any time! Kevin & Jamie
My family had the best time on our Spring Break! The house was big enough for all five of us. It was extremely clean and was well stocked with all the necessities and even a few extras. The beds were very comfortable and the house had many cool touches and character. We enjoyed playing corn hole out in the backyard, collecting shark teeth and fossils on the beach, and even spotting a few bald eagles and groundhogs. My kids also loved riding the ferry over to Williamsburg. This is a very special place!

Our family of 4 had a wonderful stay at this cozy cottage just across the river from Williamsburg. The host was very communicative with directions and warnings about the dirt road. He also helped immediately when we had trouble with the door lock at check in. The cottage itself was quaint with an upstairs bedroom for the kids. We had a great view of the river. There were a lot of modern amenities such as phone chargers, a well stocked kitchen, and even a car charger for our EV. There were labels for all the light switches which was very helpful and even some touch lights with a lot of character. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again!

We loved our stay at The Cottage! It was such a peaceful place and just as described. Super clean and had everything and anything you would need right down to extra toothbrushes and fire starters. The beach area is wonderful, it’s like being on your own private island. The kayaks were a huge hit with the kids and my husband I enjoyed them as well. We saw bald eagles, deer, and so many shells! The cottage is tucked away at the end of a drive and feels very private. Such a quant and cozy place. The ferry to go into Williamsburg is less than a mile away and it’s free! We used the ferry several times and enjoyed it as well. We had 5 people in our group and we all had plenty of room and we’re comfortable. The hosts are very friendly, knowledgeable of the area, and easy to get in touch with.

This cozy, comfortable cottage was a peaceful retreat for us after a stressful time in our lives. Sitting in front of the blazing riverfront fire pit in the evening, watching the stars come out, listening to the river rhythmically lap the shore while waterfowl called goodnight -- all were a healing balm to our souls. During the day, strolling the private beach for enormous scallop shells, hiking through Chippokes State Park, riding the ferry to wander though historic Yorktown, Jamestown, Williamsburg, riding bikes on the lovely Virginia Capitol Trail and Jamestown Island, then returning home on the ferry to spectacular sunsets on the river -- made for a wonderful week, even in February. The cottage had fun decorations, and welcomed us with special touches by the hosts (including ample firewood!) The hosts were immediately attentive to our suggestions, and definitely aimed to please! We were so grateful for this special hideaway!

About the host
Hosted by Kevin Onizuk
Kevin and Jamie Onizuk live in nearby Williamsburg, VA. We have 4 kids, mostly grown, but they seem to still like being at home. We purchased this property in July 2022 as a relaxing river retreat for our family and are excited to share it with our guests. We fell in love with the amazing views from the property, the privacy/seclusion, and of course the beach! It is our favorite place to go to just get away from it all, while being close to Williamsburg and everything there is to see and do in the Historic Triangle.
Why they chose this property
We stumbled across this property on our way for a day of shopping in historic Smithfield. We immediately fell in love with the stunning river views, the private secluded beach, and the cute cottage with a vacation feel. Days at Bay View Place melt away any stresses you may have and it is truly hard to leave.
What makes this property unique
The biggest benefit of the home is the location.....a beautiful half-acre parcel on the James River. The elevated bank provide for amazing views. Sit on the back porch and look out over Jamestown Island (first English settlement in America), watch the fireworks at Busch Gardens in the Summer, watch bald eagles fly by, or just simply relax and enjoy the river life. The home is a historic cottage renovated with modern comforts with a great home-away-from-home vacation vibe. Be careful, once you stay, it is hard to leave!
The home is located in a rural area, but only just over a mile from the Jamestown/Scotland ferry, a free ride over to Jamestown, Williamsburg, and everything that area has to offer. Spend a day shopping at the outlets, playing at Busch Gardens, learning about the history of America, and come back to the relaxing oasis at Bay View. There you can kayak, swim, play cornhole, fish, or just relax and enjoy. Lots to do nearby, lots to do at the house, and plenty of opportunity to just relax.
