About this property

Songbird Sanctuary | Under New Management, Hot Tub, Deck & Year-Round Views

Songbird Sanctuary began new management in 2023, so reviews prior to 2023 do not reflect the current management of the home.

On the main level, a well-designed, open-concept kitchen and living room create an inviting entrance overlooking long-range mountain views. Choose to enjoy the warmth of the gas logs while enjoying a favorite show, or step outside onto the spacious deck for additional covered dining space. Two bedrooms, each with a queen size bed, can be found on the main floor, along with a full bathroom (bathtub only) with hallway access. The upper level of the home has a bedroom with queen size bed and en suite bathroom (walk-in shower only). Continue to the lower level for the heart of entertainment! Here, you'll find a pool table, cozy couch seating, a kitchenette, and satellite TV. Step just outside onto the deck to soak in the hot tub.

Songbird Sanctuary is within a 20-minute drive to the quaint Village of Chimney Rock, Lake Lure Beach & Waterpark, Lake Lure Flowering Bridge, and scenic Chimney Rock State Park, so you can spend your days hiking on the various trails within the state park, browsing the adorable shops, or soaking up the sun, swimming, and canoeing on Lake Lure's mountain beach. While in town, be sure to grab lunch at Lake House Restaurant Bar & Grill, La Strada, or Point of View before sampling a local beer at Hickory Nut Gorge Brewery or a glass of locally-curated wine at Burntshirt Vineyards.

The home is also within a 25-minute drive of Fairview. While in this area, be sure to check out Hickory Nut Gap Farm which is best known for its meat supply to the finest farm-to-table restaurants in the AVL area & as a stop along the WNC Cheese Trail. Another destination along the cheese trail is Looking Glass Creamery. Stop by to sample their homemade cheese & “Carmoolita” caramel paired with a glass of wine. For more farm fun, visit the sustainable Flying Cloud Farm, where you can treat yourself to a vibrant U-pick bouquet of native flowers & a bushel of fresh berries.

For area hiking, check out Bearwallow Mountain trail, an easy 1-mile hike that reaches a grassy meadow at its summit and features a nearly 360° view that includes Mt. Mitchell and Mt. Pisgah. You'll love strolling through the wildflowers & picnicking alongside the grazing cattle that call this mountaintop home. After your hike, reward yourself with a cold beer from Whistlehop Brewing Co. Nestled on a sprawling 3 acres, this family & pet-friendly train-themed taproom offers a 6-hole mini-golf course, and other fun games and activities that include disc golf connect 4, half-scale bowling lane, bocce, a giant culvert slide, and soccer. Gather around the fire pit and take in beautiful mountain views from the covered open-air deck while munching down on grub from a selection of rotating food trucks. Also nearby is Turgua Brewing, which is situated beside Cane Creek and offers live music to enjoy while sipping on their craft ciders, meads, or ales.

Remember that no trip to the mountains of Western North Carolina is complete without checking out the bustling and eccentric city of Asheville just 40 minutes away. Home to art galleries, craft breweries, award-winning restaurants, specialty boutiques, and novelty shops, you could easily spend all your time in the bustling heart of downtown. While in Asheville, be sure to check out the iconic Biltmore Estate and America's Favorite Drive, The Blue Ridge Parkway. After a full day of exploring nearby towns and cities, head home to cozy up around the gas logs fireplace and soak in the hot tub while looking out at the stunning mountain views.

With no shortage of covered deck space and mountain views throughout the house, you'll long to return to Songbird Sanctuary!

Please Note: This home is pet friendly with an additional fee. While AWD or 4WD is not required, we recommend coming prepared with an AWD or 4WD vehicle from December through March, and we highly recommend travel insurance during this time period.

Dreamy mountain getaway
We had the wonderful fortune of staying at Songbird Sanctuary for a week. The house is in a very private area up windy mountain roads. It would be tough to haul a camper or trailer up there if you travel with one. We expected the house to be completely secluded and we’re surprised to find there were several more. It was not a problem and it was still the quiet getaway we hoped for. The kitchen was so well equipped I was able to throw together a dinner. the only problem was that I pulled out several dirty dishes (with actual food caked on). There were so many thoughtful touches such as a welcome bag with essentials that were greatly appreciated! There were even towels Specifically for the hot tub. We all LOVED the pool table! Watching the fog settle or lift from the porches was incredible! The antique furniture was so gorgeous and comforting. Our dogs loved the property and we had zero problems with wildlife (we were expecting a bear or two). I can’t recommend this property enough- in fact we loved it so much that we are returning to it right away! We travel and stay in homes a lot and this Property management is doing a fantastic job.

Gorgeous Views
The views are gorgeous. The house is close to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Village - we enjoyed spending time in both. It was frustrating that the hot tub and fire place didn’t work (both were not disclosed at the booking). The kitchen needs more sheet pans and baking dishes. It’s not a well stocked cook’s kitchen but the views are great. The trash at the back of the house is gross. I know you can’t control the bears but it should be cleaned up.

Cute House, amazing views, not clean.
The house is spacious with 4 bedrooms and comfy beds. The downstairs level has its own mini kitchen and a pool table. The views were incredible because the house sits at the top of a mountain. It took a good 30 minutes to get to the nearby town. The house is advertised with a hot tub. They let us know after we paid in full that the hot tub was out of order which was disappointing because at that time there were no other available options. Upon arrival everything looked really clean. But as we settled in there was a lot of misses with the cleanliness. Every dish we pulled out was dirty. One cup was put up half full of hot chocolate. The outside trash can was full leaving us nowhere to put our trash. There was a dirty sock in one of the beds. 5 intelligent non-drinking adults could not get the fireplace to work. The toilet on the main level was not flushing. The ice maker was not working. There were piles of dead spiders in the corners of the downstairs level. Daylight Saturday we were on the porch and noticed that the ground below was covered in trash. Looked like there was a bag or two of trash that had been discovered by a bear maybe. Made the amazing views a lot less amazing. This could be an amazing property if it was cleaned well and taken care of a little better but unfortunately we won’t be going back or recommending it to anyone.

Great Cabin
The cabin was a great place to stay. Away from everything with a fantastic view. As others have stated it was not properly cleaned upon arrival. I had read the reviews and came prepared to clean. There were dirty towels left in the upstairs bathroom and the shower was not cleaned. The main floor toilet was not cleaned. The downstairs toilet seat was broken. Be prepared to bring towels unless you want to wash a load everyday. There were only 8 towels and for a family of 5 that meant washing a load every day. One trash can needs replaced because the bear cub has made a good size hole in the side and pulls trash out. It’s fun to see the bear but the mess and smell isn’t something you want to deal with on vacation.
