About this property
Orcaview Cabin—A wild Alaskan getaway surrounded by wildlife and adventure!
Find us on social media to follow along with local guest adventures.
The Tongass Treehouse is a scenic getaway sitting about a hundred feet up in the lush rainforest canopy with the ocean in your front yard. Start your day with coffee while listening to eagles and whale watching from bed, the reading nook, living room or the deck, then enjoy Juneau's best offerings - like remote glacier hikes or local shopping - all less than 15 minutes away, then return to luxurious comforts to relax at home and watch the sunset as flying squirrels and eagles play next to the deck, and orcas feed just feed from the shore.
This is our home, we rent it out when we do work travel. The Orcaview Cabin is the two main stories of the house. The Orcaview Cabin is completely separate from the lower studio, which we call the Otter Den (it’s entrance is one story below as well). Both units have access to laundry in our utility room through a door outside. We have never heard our neighbors, and they're mostly not visible, being far away through the trees.
Please note this house is on a steep hillside and requires being comfortable with a few stories of stairs to access the unit (we ask everyone if they're okay with stairs before accepting a booking). We are in the forests of Alaska, so wildlife and occasional bugs are a fact of life.
This is not a dedicated rental (it's our home), we do not have children and our home is not child-proofed, so if you have young children be aware.
We do have cats that live in the home part-time - our allergen mitigation includes limited access to some rooms, vacuuming daily with a HEPA filtered vacuum, having a BlueAir 121 HEPA filter in the main open space and a Winix C545 HEPA filter that can be used in the one bedroom the cats are allowed. We have had a number of guests with severe cat allergies stay and tell us they had no symptoms, but it is something to be aware of.
All photos taken by us at or close to the Tongass Treehouse.
If you have any questions, please let us know! We are also happy to help our guests plan their adventures.

About the host
Hosted by Clay Fischer
Childhood sweethearts, we grew up right here in Tee Harbor more than 20 years ago. After moving down south and traveling the world, we realized that wherever we went, there really was no place like home. Moving back to Alaska isn't easy. We waited and waited for the right home. Eventually we made a trip up to check the Tongass Treehouse out, and finally found a home in the lush rainforest with an ocean view that made even locals like us speechless.
We do still travel for work, and that is when we rent out our home (both the upper and lower unit).

Why they chose this property
When we first visited what was to become the Tongass Treehouse (a 3 bedroom main unit with lower studio), we walked past a marmot and porcupine to the deck where eagles were calling right off the balcony and orcas playing right offshore close enough their breath wafted up to us. In the short time checking the place out we saw a momma black bear and cubs, a half dozen humpbacks feeding and a huge pod of steller sea lions playing. As the sun set there were flying squirrels gliding in the canopy and salmon jumping by the thousands right offshore. We knew this was the place for us. We were home again. This was everything Juneau had to offer as a secluded retreat, but only 15 minutes from town and being two units in one structure, we can have guests as well. As a hobbyist wildlife photographer, I don't even have to leave the property to get incredible shots. All the photos shared were taken by us at or near the property!
What makes this property unique
There are lots of rentals in Juneau, but almost none give you the forest and the beach in one - and when they do, they charge top dollar for it. We still can't believe that we sip our morning coffee from bed while watching humpback whales breach. We go out to the deck and the eagles call and ravens sing to us. Being up in the canopy we get such a different look at nature, and being a hundred feet above the beach facing west we are treated to a stunning sunset every night. There are no visible neighbors, though we chat with them when going on walks and they are absolutely amazing and full of local knowledge. There is half a mile of forest to the south and miles of beach where we have never seen another person, offering world-class salmon fishing. Within 15 minutes you can hike to incredibly remote glaciers, have all kinds of beaches to yourself, do local shopping and eat at amazing restaurants, stock up at Costco, and catch some of the freshest fish for homemade fish tacos. After a long day of hiking and adventuring, nothing beats coming back to our affordable luxury to rest and recover.
