overall the property was very nice and pleasant
We were staying for the week because my granddaughter's wedding was taking place at the Heritage Barn. We were in and out most of the days with wedding events. We were please with the condition of the home except for several stains on the carpet and a molding was broken off but other than that it was great. I, as a crafter, appreciated all the cross stitch pictures that were hanging on the walls. Thank you

Great Owners/Cottage
Hope Floats is a great cottage. It was clean and spacious and comfortable with all the amenities. It is definitely a place to keep going back to! The owners were very easy to communicate with and immediately answered any and all questions we had.

Local family getaway
Local family getaway, the house was great and very clean. Owners were easy to contact and had no crazy expectations. We were expecting to coming in and and nothing and the house was stocked with the toilet paper, paper towel and some cleaning supplies. We were a little worried about not having central air but the house is shaded and gets a nice breeze off the lake. The only thing that I wish would have been noted was that the house doesn’t really have a nice beach access as we thought the house was closer to the beach like the houses directly in front of it. Other than that we had a great time and would recommend to others

About the host

Things in life typically evolve, and Stony Lake is no different in that respect. During the 1800s, the Stony Lake area was harvested for its timber; then in the 1900s it transformed into a summer playground and retreat for campers and families while still maintaining its commercial free charm to this day.

Stony Lake’s 200 acre lake is miniscule compared to the 86 billion acres of water on this earth, but those 200 acres are extremely special for a lot of reasons. Some of us have been visiting Stony Lake for the last forty-four years, others for less than that, but regardless of how long we have been affiliated with Stony Lake, we keep returning, year after year, and this is why:

Why they chose this property

We don’t use this loosely, but Stony Lake is a little heaven on earth for the following reasons–1. It’s not Washington D.C (enough said), 2. we’re not sure if there is traffic in heaven, but there definitely isn’t traffic around Stony Lake, 3. the loudest sound is the occasional powered parachute and we’re good with that, 4. kids and parents can generally be free from modern day trappings, 5. It is safe. 6. very strong sense of community ranging from local faith organizations to the Stony Lake Property Owners Association’s fishing tournaments, boat parades, ice cream socials, picnics, sail boat races, and possibly an annual pickleball tournament in the future, 7. Multi-sport lake–fishing, duck hunting, wake-boarding to stand up paddle boarding, and even ice skating when safe; and when the cottage turns into “hunt camp,” 8. Driving distance to breweries, wineries, horseback riding, amusement parks, and sand dunes, 9. Tubing down Stony Lake channel to The Oval 10. The people of Oceana County.

What makes this property unique

There is no better place to learn about the beauty of our exceptional planet, how to hook a fish, harness the wind, water ski behind a speedboat, how to roast a marshmallow, dream big while watching shooting stars, and having the time to dig into a good book. What is less considered is the multi-generational learning that happens at a place like the cottage. In many cases, a cottage draws multiple generations, a place where both grandparents, their children, and grandchildren can find general harmony. It is a place where the older generations teach the younger generation to explore and learn. It is a place where the older generation can tell stories without being pushy and there is actually time to listen, and learn. In essence, a cottage typically is a safe place that encourages multi-generational learning.
