About this property
Large Home, Lovely Lake Views, Great Getaway
One of the larger Tahoma houses for rent on VRBO - a great value completely remodeled in 2010!
Our vacation home offers lovely views of the lake from the downstairs bedrooms, main living spaces, and the wrap-around deck. The house is quite large (2400 sq. ft.) and doesn't just sleep 10 but actually accommodates that many *comfortably,* thanks to a modern kitchen with island, large living area, 2.5 baths, and off-street parking. We remodeled in 2010 using top-quality materials, all new appliances and fixtures, and brand new beds, but preserved details such as the monumental fieldstone fireplace and our family stained glass.
The layout of the house is as follows:
1st floor: Two bedrooms each with two pairs of bunk beds and a double bed (so each is able to sleep five/six, nice for a single family or a bunch of tired skiers!), one full bath, a separate half bath, washer and dryer, wood storage, additional large closets and a spacious entryway, so plenty of room for boots, coats, and carriages.
2nd floor: Two more bedrooms, each with a double-size bed. Full bathroom. Lots of additional closets containing generous supplies. Fully outfitted gourmet kitchen with a large island, separate dining area including a very large dining table perfect for large family meals or big puzzles! Also on this level is a living space with very comfortable seating for 10, plus a big-screen TV with VCR, DVD. The living space leads to a huge wrap-around deck with marvelous views of mountains and lake.
All rooms have closets, so no shortage of storage.
Outside: From the front door, a covered entryway leading to a path to the stairs to the off-street parking. From the back door a small gravel path leading to a small quiet patio overlooking the lake. Lots of trees all around and only a couple of other houses in sight.
We offer high speed internet and get great mobile phone reception so no need to be out of touch...unless you want to be!
A short walk up the hill and you'll find yourself in the Desolation Wilderness, a National Forest that goes on forever. This means wonderful hiking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and mountain biking is available without having to get in a car! If you're looking at this posting then we probably don't have to tell you that Tahoma is near some of Tahoe's best skiing--Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are less than half an hour away, and Homewood, one of the West Shore's best kept secrets, is literally right next door--and outdoor activities in all seasons. Two wonderful state parks are just a bit further down Highway 89 (Sugar Pine Point and DL Bliss), both offering camping, beaches, wildlife, hiking, cross country skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, etc. It's just 15 minutes to Tahoe City, with all it offers, too, and there are several really excellent shops and restaurants even nearer than that.

About the host
Hosted by Anna Johnson

I'm a grandmother living near the Pacific coast in Marin. I and my husband, now deceased, bought this place over thirty years ago, and have been using it for our family vacations ever since. Unfortunately, I don't get up there as often as I used to, so decided to renovate the entire house to make it up-to-date for vacation renters such as yourself. I hope you enjoy your stay!
Why they chose this property
When we purchased this house many, many years ago the area was a lot less developed than it is now, and we appreciated the wildness of the surrounding area. Since then much new building has sprung up, but it's been our great luck that most of that building has taken place lower down, near the highway, so our views (which is what convinced us to make the purchase) to this day include hardly any other houses. Also, while the lakefront has been bought up and privatized along a lot of its length, we are near two major state parks, which guarantees that we can always enjoy some of the most beautiful beaches in Tahoe.
What makes this property unique
My family has decades of happy memories associated with this place and that, combined with its upgraded comfort following last year's top-to-bottom renovation, keeps us very happy here. Our location near the top of the hill ensures peace and quiet, and, best of all, delivers spectacular views of the lake. Cloud 9 we call it, and with good reason.
