Such a fun experience! Very nice and my kiddos loved it!! The train car is awesome! My youngest is in love with trains and this was just the Cherry on top of visiting family in Hutchinson! Clean, quiet and perfect!
Such a cute and fun experience to stay in the box car! It was well done, clean and had all the amenities we could possibly need! Perfect for our visit to Yoder and would definitely stay again!
Absolutely wonderful!! Even though it rained, it was awesome!! We LOVE the way the boxcar is furnished and everything about how it feels like home!! Our dog was very happy with everything and she behaved very well, also. Celebrated our 51st Anniversary in the boxcar and enjoyed the nature of the atmosphere of simplicity.
A very quiet and unique setting. Full compliment of items within to make one feel at home. Smoke detector was not working, but otherwise everything is as shared and the price is exceptional. Very worth a stay.
The train car was lovely and really enjoyed staying there. Liked the availability of the coffee bar area. All furnishings very nice. Great communication with property owner.
The box car was unique, quaint, and perfect for our short day. Host is very responsive and accommodating. Will definitely return. Setting in the country is beautiful!
Unique stay perfect for our family of 4. It's a cute place, quiet, serene, and comfortable. We played with the tetherball outside, played with a few games inside, and also read part of the boxcar children book set that was available!
This is somewhat of a mixed review. The charm of the box car, the look the feel the uniqueness was wonderful. Would be an awesome place to take a couple grandchildren for a day. We went for an adult birthday trip. Communication was not what I wished for. Was looking for input about things to do and where to eat, I got one suggestion. Sell your community and people will come. Was also looking for my check-in information and did not receive it until 3:50 in the afternoon after I contacted them about when I would receive it. The only information we were given about the heat in the unit was a combination window unit. The window unit is not adequate to keep the box car comfortable in temperatures below 30F. I did find two extra heaters that were not mentioned and was able to keep the car somewhat comfortable. Other suggestions would be to have different kinds of coffee and to ensure that there was plenty of sugar and cream available for those coffees. We had three creamers and one packet of sugar. I was able to find more creamers in a drawer, but was not able to locate more sugar. I can understand the concept of being off the grid as far as Internet/no TV and after looking at the ad for the unit, realize now that there was no mention of Wi-Fi. We were looking for things to do in Hutch and since you’re in a metal box car, you also do not get cellular signal. If it is your intent to have people off grid, it might be better to mention that a little bit more in your description.
This place is so charming and beautiful. Our stay was short but we will book again!! Every amenity we needed was there.
Note: the pillows were not very good. And the dogs jumped on us in a friendly way. But could have been bad if it was muddy.
Very quiet time on a farm location south of Hutchinson, KS.
This gave me time to gather myself and have time with
God. I read the second book of The Boxcar Family boois.
How many can say they have slept in a boxcar besides the hobos of yore? This is a fun, fully equipped boxcar with all the amenities you could want. It has nice, personal touches and inspirational sayings to get your day off to a good start. We did not do any cooking, but there was a hot plate and microwave if we had wanted to.
While traveling from South Dakota to Oklahoma, we decided to stop for the night and found the Santa Fe Boxcar on VRBO. Since it was the same day, there was trouble booking online. By contacting the host, Amy, she went above and beyond to make sure we were able to book our night at the Santa Fe Boxcar. It was dark when we arrived but Amy's directions were spot on - even when mentioning we had a trailer and needed room for parking. Upon entering the Santa Fe Boxcar - it was perfect! It had everything we needed - love the history and uniqueness of the Boxcar! Thank you, and we hope to return when in the Kansas area again!
