About the host
Hosted by Marten
Originally from Sweden, I’ve spent the last 27 years in the USA. After the passing of my parents a couple of years ago, I decided to reconnect with my roots by purchasing a charming house on Järngatan. It needed some TLC, but together with my amazing fiancé and help from my best friend—who lives nearby—we transformed it into a cozy oasis over seven trips to Sweden in just one year.
We are passionate about upcycling and recycling, so nearly all the furniture is either designed by my late father or sourced from a local thrift organization. We love sharing this special space with guests who appreciate a unique experience beyond IKEA and who will treat our home with the same care and love that we do. We hope you enjoy your stay!

Why they chose this property
Having grown up in southern Sweden near the beach, I’ve always had a fondness for the ocean and access to Denmark. This location offers quick and easy access to Copenhagen Airport, perfect for my travels. My best friends live just a few blocks away in Råå, making it easy to spend quality time with them when we are back in Sweden.
As I stroll down to the beach, I’m greeted with stunning views of Denmark, the island of Ven, and the iconic Kronborg Castle, the inspiration for Shakespeare's Hamlet and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The neighborhood is also renowned for its beautiful protected buildings, adding to its charm. You’ll love exploring this picturesque area!

What makes this property unique
Historical Context:
This area has a fascinating history; in the early 1900s, a copper extraction plant was built nearby, and the factory's consul wanted his employees to live comfortably close to work. The design of the row houses draws inspiration from English and Dutch styles, with touches of Swedish national romanticism evident in the architecture. Before construction began, the architects and engineers Claes and Ewald traveled to Amsterdam to study row house living.
Personal Touch:
These were the last homes built in the neighborhood, leaving a beautiful birch tree area behind my backyard that will remain untouched. This means not only do we have a stunning garden, but we also enjoy a small "forest" with paths leading down to the beach right behind the house. It’s a perfect blend of nature and comfort!
