About this property
Downtown by RISD/1gb wifi/smart lock/free parking
Be downtown, breathe the skyline, sip coffee, peer down the steep side street, or step outside to a marked trail past the earliest indoor mall, the "Superman" office tower, a place Lincoln campaigned in 1860, and where the colony declared independence before Philadelphia. Below the Old State House and steps from RISD, explore the town with comforts of home: Gigabit internet, spacious living room, onsite parking, fine restaurants, relaxed cafes, and walk to the train station & city bus lines. You have exclusive access to all areas in the apartment.
The Space: cozy and elegant one-bedroom apartment. Lush plants, hand-crafted decorative screens, full kitchen, brass queen bed with Beautyrest "Black" mattress, small work desk, and a wooden bar ledge that looks over North Main Street and Roger Williams Memorial Park. RI registration: RE.04932-STR.
Host Availability: by phone or text throughout your stay.
The Neighborhood: You are in the walkable heart of downtown Providence. From the Steeple Bridge (a 3-minute walk), admire three hundred years of history: the Waterfire-celebrated revival of the Providence River, the country's oldest AND city's newest indoor mall, the Art Deco office tower known locally as the "Superman" building, the very first Baptist church in the country (with its famous steeple), and dozens of restaurants springing back to life alongside the river, up and down Main Street, as well as the "Downcity" business district. Two brass plaques on the Old Market House (a five-minute walk) remind current residents and fair-weather visitors how high the water rose in the 1815 and 1938 hurricanes.
Home to many historic and cultural sites, residences, and educational institutions: RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), Johnson & Wales, and Brown University. Filled with history and art, this diverse and historically layered area beckons the curious visitor.
Transportation: Depending on your desired speed, travel by foot, bike, kayak, gondola (with or without musical accompaniment), bus, ride-sharing service, and perhaps again--there was a time--hot air balloon. The train to Boston is fast and comfortable. Ferries go to Prudence Island, Newport, Martha's Vineyard, and Block Island. Off-street parking (for two cars) at the apartment. Downtown has free two-hour parking and public garages.
Host Coordination Need: The indoor plants, which is part of this apartment's character, needs its weekly watering schedule. We will coordinate with you to access the apartment about 10-15 minutes per week for that purpose.
Other Tenants in Building: The house was built in 1778. Its method of construction means that footsteps from the neighbor above can sound loud. We have asked that person to respect your space and daily routine, as we similarly ask of you. That said, if you sleep lightly, this might not be the place for you.
Sofa-Bed Expectations: For the sake of hygiene, please refrain from sleeping directly on the living room sofa. If you want to use the pull-out bed, register for 3 guests (for an extra charge of $50/night), even if you are a party of two. We will provide bedding for the pull-out bed.
