About this property

The Bird House. Great quiet location 2 miles to downtown!

Wake up in a quiet sleepy community that is surrounded by forest but moments from all that Asheville has to offer; downtown (2.4 mls), river arts district (2.6 mls), Historic West Asheville (3 mls), Biltmore Estate (4.5 mls), hiking, award winning dining and more breweries than you can shake a stick at.

The Bird House is the larger side of a private home. It is eclectic and filled with unique items that we have collected over the years. There is a smaller unit on the other side that is completely separate and there are no shared spaces or access. The porch is divided by a sliding barn door and there are 2 separate entrances. Most folks that come here are low key and visiting Biltmore, enjoying the foodie scene or exploring the vast array of nature that the Blueridge Parkway (15 min drive) has to offer.

There are 2 bedrooms, one queen, one double, both with premium bedding. Each room has been uniquely decorated with both overhead and table lighting as well as a closet and a dresser.

There is one bathroom with a tub/shower. We provide towels for your stay along with some toiletries that you may have forgotten to bring along. Please run the fan while showering as the steam will occasionally set of the smoke alarm in the hallway.

The living room has a large TV with several premium channels.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, Large refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, dishes, cutlery, cooking utensils, pots, pans, cutting boards...
We've also provided some basic cleaning items for spills or cooking clean up. There are dishtowels and pot holders. The coffee set up includes an electric kettle, French press, pour over coffee maker and a drip coffee pot. There is also a small microwave.
Please do not put leftover food scraps or coffee grinds into the sink as we are on a septic system.
The hightop table will sit 4 and there is plenty of room for storage of food items.

The porch- We have provided some seating. It is a lovely spot to observe some of our native wildlife as we back up to a forest. It's likely that you will see a good deal of turkey, deer and groundhogs and well as many different species of birds including a hawk that spends a good deal of time here in my yard. There are rabbits, raccoons and yes, there are bears occasionally. I've even seen a Bobcat and my neighbor has some foxes that come around. It really depends on the time of year.

The property-We live on the property in an RV conversion project with our cat. This property is an evolving permaculture homestead. You will likely at some point see us working in the yard or around the property. If you have any questions about some of the projects we are working on please don't be shy. We built our large garden in 2020 and hope to convert the shed into a chicken house and goat shelter sometime in the near future. We ask that you do not go down into the yard.

My partner and I are from Miami. We moved to Asheville in 2014 and bought this property in 2018. I am a photographer and he is a musician. One of the things that really attracted us to this area wan the amazing nature. We love to spend time on the Blue Ridge Pkwy especially in the Fall. Hosting allows up to take time to do some of the things that we love. I also have a background in design and I've really enjoyed renovating and eclectically setting up our spaces.

Why they chose this property

I wanted to live in a more remote place while Zac wanted to be close to town. Somehow that became a reality with this house. We have a large backyard to work with, there is a large variety of wildlife and birds and we are less than 3 miles from the center of downtown and so close to other main areas like West Asheville and The RAD. One of my favorite things about my neighborhood is the quiet and how dark it gets at night.

What makes this property unique

My partner and I have and continue to do some pretty big projects here. Our goal is to create a permacultural homestead and a magical backyard area that we can spend a lot of time in. We have done a good deal of terracing, stairs and built a large garden at the bottom. We have also done all of the work on the tire wall on the South side of the property as well as collected the material and assembled all of the gabions. Future projects include a large pond and converting the shed into a goat/chicken house.
