About this property

Whimsical Designer Guesthouse — 2-bedroom near Kaiser Apple Nvidia Levis Stadium

The Whimsical Guesthouse is a 600 sq-ft, 2-bedroom ADU designed by an interior decorator and newly remodelled in the summer of 2022.

A locked gate is your entry point onto the property. It leads from your designated driveway parking down a small walkway to the home's front entrance — a set of French doors. Single-level with no steps, the place is easy to roll in and out of. The double front doors open into a cosy living room with a two-seater sofa, an armchair and a dining nook that seats four.

Beyond the lounge is a hallway is a kitchenette and a full bathroom. The bedrooms and a utility closet are the other doors in the hall.

The place sleeps up to four people with no surcharge — perfect for short stays or for groups who just need a place to sleep. For long stays, we recommend two occupants (and the occasional guest) for maximum comfort as it is an apartment-style space. Mattresses and bed linens are hotel-quality and each bedroom has a built-in closet where you will find bath towels, quality wooden hangers, extra sheets for longer stays and a laundry hamper. A desk and chair workstation plus bedside tables and lamps complete each bedroom.

The kitchenette comes with all-new designer appliances including a medium-sized fridge, a plug-in hot plate/stove, microwave, toaster, pressure cooker, kettle and coffee machine. There is no oven or dishwasher but the sink is full sized and you'll find cleaning supplies in a separate utility closet. Four or more sets of dinnerware, flatware, utensils, cups and glasses are available in the cupboards and drawers along with basic prep, cook and serveware. The kitchen is small but well-functioning. Perfect for commuters.

Your unit comes with one reserved parking spot on-premise. For additional vehicles, there is free street parking with no move restrictions either front of our house or on the opposite side of our street.

We are located in a safe, suburban neighbourhood with little foot traffic and commerce. Most homes in our direct vicinity are single-family, owner-occupied houses. Great for someone who wants a quiet, residential neighbourhood stay with parks, shops and restaurants a short drive away. You can also easily get around on bike. Ride-shares like Uber and Lyft work seamlessly at all hours.

There is a laundry room in the garage which you have a private entrance into. Our machines are free to use but the room is a shared facility with the neighbouring house as the greater property is a duplex.

Enjoy a curated interior as your home houses the owner's art collection. And because California has wonderful weather year-round, take advantage of our fruit trees and gardens outside your home. For work, Santa Clara is a prime location to commute into San Jose or any of the cities on the Peninsula. We're close to many tech companies, commuter bus stops, schools and hospitals.

About the host

Host profile image
I grew up internationally between Hong Kong, Macau and NYC but the San Francisco Bay Area has been home for a decade now.

I am an interior designer and stylist specialising in Airbnb conversions. Only love and attention fill my spaces in the hopes of creating a cosy home away from home. I enjoy books and all things culture and every room on offer houses my personal art collection.

I enjoy home improvement and designing home goods. My hobbies are building and giving furniture a second life. Sustainability is key. In my spare time I cook, read, visit museums and travel.

See which listing speaks to you. And fellow yogis, come say hi.

Why they chose this property

My neighbourhood is at the crossroads of Santa Clara, Sunnyvale and Cupertino — a convenient commute onto the Peninsula or San Jose as we often go against traffic in rush hour. Close to major tech companies and hospitals, Santa Clara is more affordable than the peninsula and safer than anywhere in San Jose.

There is virtually no crime in my area, plus a solid radius around it — look on crime maps yourself! The city of Santa Clara is well-funded so roads are smooth, parks are kept and friendly emergency services respond quickly. It’s not the most exciting place but if you’re looking for a quiet suburban hub with big town amenities a short drive away, you’ve found your place.

The biggest perk has to be the under-the-radar food scene and accessibility to epic Californian nature. Don’t be fooled by a non-descript restaurant in a strip mall. Some of the most authentic/regional Indian and Chinese food is in our backyard. Santa Clara has the biggest Koreatown in America after LA and San Jose is home to the largest Vietnamese diaspora. Don’t forget to visit a food truck, winery or explore a Michelin restaurant. Find out why the term farm-to-table originated in the area. There is a farmer’s market happening somewhere every day of the week.

If you love hiking, surfing, redwoods or have a dog, you’re in for a treat. There are neighbourhoods with redwoods right in their backyard for lovely redwood walks. Santa Cruz is another wonderful place to see the trees. My dog loves the off-leash wonderland of of Fort Funston and I love a weekend jaunt for some culture in San Francisco, the North Bay, Santa Cruz or further south to Carmel, Monterey or the Sequoias. Surfers, Mavericks is nearby when big surf is on. Otherwise the coastal life can be found in Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay or Pacifica. Don’t be shy to ask for more travel and food tips. There are too many to list!
