"Leg-A-Sea" was built by an architect for his family and is the first passive solar house on the island and as such is listed as such in Stone Harbor's Book of special places. The first floor is quite open, though there is room to sit by yourself with your coffee and paper in the sunroom and watch the world go by. There are two private decks off the south facing bedrooms from which you can see the ocean. A first floor deck off the kitchen and dining room has great seating and eating space for all. (new gas grill at the ready!) What makes this house truly unique is a 3rd floor 360 degree cupola from which you can watch the sun set and rise again, see storms roll by or check out what's happening in the ocean. Views on all sides of the island! There is one queen bedroom on the first floor and 1 queen bedroom on the second floor along with 3 bedrooms with twin beds.
Park your car and walk everywhere as this house is just 4 houses from the beach, 2 blocks from a great playground, 7 blocks from the center of town and so much more. It is a special gathering place for families looking for the best of what Stone Harbor has to offer.
Stone Harbor is known as THE SEASHORE AT ITS BEST as the close proximity of the beaches, bay and town allow for walking from the enjoyment of sand, sun and water activities to the pleasure of downtown ice cream, mini-golf, boutiques and quaint shops, art galleries and eclectic dining. Recreational activities are plentiful from local golf courses, tennis, basketball, pickleball, bocce and exercise classes to playgrounds and a large variety of recreation programs to learn a new activity or enhance and improve skills.
Stone Harbor is distinguished by its natural attractions. Stone Harbor Point, on the southern end of the island, was named by AOL travel as one of the top ten secret beaches, a quieter location for beach-goers looking to avoid the crowds of popular shore destinations. The Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary, a National, Natural Landmark, features wooded paths through a 21-acre nature preserve for birds, waterfowl and butterflies. Moreover, The Wetlands Institute is a leader in promoting appreciation, understanding and stewardship of wetlands and coastal ecosystems through comprehensive and varied programs in research, conservation and education.
