With 2 king bedrooms and a spacious bunk room, premium natural gas grill and hot tub, 2 smart TVs, work from home spaces, and beautiful views of the Puget Sound — this place has it all!
The space Spend your evenings cooking and dining in our open concept kitchen and living area. The kitchen is fully stocked for all of your needs, and has been described as “lavish” by guests. We have a 55” smart TV and fireplace with easy on/off switch in the living room for cozy raining PNW evenings, or soak in the hot tub in the back yard while grilling on the Weber grill with natural gas line. Our master bathroom also boasts a deep soaking tub with water views.
In the mornings sip your coffee on the second story porch watching the Puget Sound. It’s a great spot for sunset views as well.
We have two king rooms and a bunk room with a twin over full configuration, making it a winner for couples traveling together, families or solo travelers alike.
The space also offers covered off street parking in the garage and ample street parking.

Other things to note:
While we love bringing our young daughters to this townhome, there are some things to be aware of before bringing your small children. We have a fireplace, hot tub, stairs and other features which are not child proofed. Let us know if you have any questions regarding kids or would like the child items put out (additional $30 cleaning fee to sanitize and store items between uses). Kid Gear must be requested at minimum 24 hours before check in. There is also a busy street (Pearl) next to the house, please do not let your young children play in the yard unattended. Guest access We are firm believers in king size beds, and have two of them available. The main bedroom features a king memory foam bed, walk in closet and private balcony with water views, en-suite bathroom and soaking tub.
The second king room has a mini en-suite with an in room sink and vanity, and large closet. The third bedroom or “bunk room” features a twin over full bunk, desk and another mini en-suite sink and vanity.
During your stay you have private access to the whole home and off street garage parking! Other things to note We love our location, which is a straight shot to Point Defiance Park and other attractions and easy to find from the freeway! However there is road noise from the nearby Pearl St.

We really like The Blue Ruby. It's less 10 mins from the UPS campus where our son just graduated. The kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms were well appointed and had everything we we needed. The unit was very clean. Everything worked as expected. We loved having fresh coffee and a coffee grinder. Communication with the host was great. We would definitely stay here again in the future!
The rental was an above average house. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds comfortable and the furnishings were good but standard "rental" furniture. The location is excellent with easy access to Point Defiance and restaurants. Although the entry code was missing from our email, management's response was immediate. However, I must warn that it is on a very busy street with traffic at all hours of the day and night. I never slept well because of the noise. If that is not an issue for you, this would be a good family rental.
The owners have put a lot of thoughts to make this place a great home away from home. Well stocked kitchen to make quick meals, enjoy morning coffee, and our favorite spot is to sit next to the fireplace during the cold evenings. We will be back!
Beautiful, comfortable, and clean home, with all the amenities. Very close to the park, zoo, and grocery store. Would definitely recommend and stay here again!
The Blue Ruby was just perfect for our girls trip. We loved the individual sinks for each bedroom and everything was convenient and well planned. The outdoor space was also fantastic!
This property was perfect for my family. It is in an excellent location within walking distance to Point Defiance Park and the Vashon ferry. There are really good restaurants all around. The property is clean and well appointed. I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone going to Tacoma.
Stayed here for 3 nights so we could take the kids to the zoo. Point Defiance is only a few minutes away. The property had everything we needed and was very clean. There were toys, games, and books for the children. The hot tub was a nice perk!
Clean, well maintained property with communicative owners. Furthermore, clear, posted instructions for everything in the house from the washer/dryer to check in/out. Hottub is a total bonus. Grateful for the pet friendly accommodations. Well worth it.
My husband, my children and I stayed here with my mom for one night for a quick trip into town. The property was very comfortable and clean. The location was convenient for our trips to the children's museum and the zoo. Slightly noisy traffic by the house at night but sound machines are provided in the bedrooms.
Lovely comfortable stay for my group of 4 adults after our Rainier trip before flying out the next day. The hot tub was clean and perfect size for 4. Kitchen had all the useful tools and appliances. Beds were spacious and cozy. 2.5 baths were great! Appreciated the makeup towels. Instructions were clear. Communicated with the host many times and they always responded promptly.
We didn’t have children with us but the games, books, and white noise machines and what looked like baby gate on the stairs were a nice touch.
Community was clean and quiet. Garage was easy secure parking.
We ran out of time, but proximity to Point Defiance was a selling point. We love the trails and Dahlia Garden there.
Would stay again!
We stay in VRBO houses several times each year, so have a lot to compare to. This owner does several things I wish ALL VRBO owners would copy! Checkout instructions are framed, nicely formatted on letter-size paper, and posted very visibly by the front door - SO helpful. Light switches are labeled - again, very helpful. Good knives & pots/pans - a pleasant change from our usual experiences. Plenty of toilet paper, and homey but not so much clutter that there's no place to put your stuff. Super comfy couches! Some flat surfaces left open to lay things down, and open pantry space for our food. Less owner stuff makes it easy to spy what's yours when you're packing up. Fans in all the bedrooms for white noise - yes! The layout is extra well done imho - 2 king beds upstairs and twin over double bunk, plus two full bathrooms. Powder room on main floor very helpful. We'd definitely stay here again as it's super close to Point Defiance, Ruston, & downtown Tacoma, and very easy to get to, with great parking. If you're picky about such things, be aware that it is on Pearl street, a busy arterial, so there is traffic noise. Also, if you're sensitive to such things pack some travel blackout curtains (I just ordered some that use suction cups), as the blinds let in considerable light. This has been an issue for us for years, and not particular to this house, so it's really a general travel tip. So there ya go - a terrific choice near the Tacoma waterfront!
My family of five adults and a 4-year old stayed at The Blue Ruby for five nights. The 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms were perfect for our family. We appreciated the well equipped kitchen, the children’s toys & books, the washer & dryer, the hot tub and the two-car garage. The small outdoor space with a table and chairs was a bonus. Communication with the host was prompt and thorough. We walked to the Pt. Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and the Pt. Defiance ferry (for a day on Vashon Island). We drove the short distance to Point Rustin and enjoyed the market, restaurants and waterfront play area and water feature. We also enjoyed the playground at Owen Beach Park. The house is on the corner of Ruby and Pearl, a busy road. There was car traffic noise with the windows open but the house is well insulated and has good windows so the noise was negligible with the windows closed. We were there during warm weather so appreciated the AC. We also liked the keyless door locks. It is a comfortable house in a great location.
Hi! We're Levi and Natalie. We have two daughters and two dogs. On weekends we love playing board games, taking walks to the beach or the nearby park with our family, and spending time in our backyard.
Why they chose this property
We love the point Ruston neighborhood. The proximity to the zoo and nearby parks; there are some great restaurants and shops, and we can walk to the water front. The home itself is a great respite from traveling too, with a fireplace and hot tub it makes the PNW winters cozy, and with a grill and soaking tub it provides a great space to land after long days hiking in the warm summers.
What makes this property unique
We love the king sized beds, the kids room, the shotgun style main floor that allows our family to both cook, eat and relax all together.
