Enjoyed everything about this property. Perfect place to spend with family, enjoying the water, fishing, campfires, and relaxation. Wonderful place to stay.
Cabin was overall nice and relaxing. View of the lake from the front rooms on the cabin. Having the dock available for our boat was super convenient, but it is a shallow shoreline, so larger boats may have a harder time docking. The lake lives up to its name and we enjoyed the sunsets in perfect fall/late summer weather.
We have a cabin in Iron River but needed some extra space for family and friends. The Muskie cabin worked out perfectly! The cabin was exactly what you would think of when you think of a lake cabin. The kitchen was so nice and we loved having a dishwasher. Everything was so clean and exactly what we were looking for. I would highly recommend this cabin!

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
No bedding, towels or dish cloths provided
Read description very carefully so you are not caught off guard when you arrive to find no bedding or towels. Owner was professional and I did appreciate that. Cabin is quiet. Nice lake as a backdrop. Very rustic. Would prefer more cleanliness overall. Appliances and AC worked well. Beds comfortable. Feels safe. Nice country road for walks.

Traci,
Thank you for your feedback! I understand your frustration with not bringing your own bedding and towels- but not only do we post our bedding/towel policy in 2 different spots on VRBO, I email out a cabin info sheet to every renter a week before every stay (including you), restating our policy and detailing all bed sizes! We have had this cabin since 2010, and have not ever had your situation occur. And, I offered you a full refund if you wanted to find a different place to stay - but you declined. I will reach out offline to find out specifically what cleanliness items you are referring.to - our cleaning lady takes pride in keeping the cabin clean and it is hard to tell from your comments on what she should improve.
This was a nice little cabin. Lots of sleeping room. Queen bed was very comfortable. Full size bed is a futon mattress, so not as comfortable. The shower is very small. Very nice updated kitchen that was really stocked with anything you could need. Grounds are nice. There are 5 other cabins on the grounds though so you are sharing space with other people. We really enjoyed our stay!

Disliked: Cleanliness
Quirky & rustic cabin
Older cabin with many add-ons. Sulphur smelling water for most of our stay. Not really clean at all and we didn’t want to take our shoes off while walking around in the cabin.

Thank you for the feedback and I am sorry your stay did not meet your expectations. I wish you would have reached out while you were there. The Bates Township (which provides the water) has given us a simple fix for when the water occasionally takes on a slight Sulphur smell (steps are in the info packet I email each guest ahead of their stay), but I could have gone over it with you. I will also touch base with our cleaning lady and see if she missed something, since you were the first guest to stay in 2022 after her big spring cleaning the week prior.
The property is just steps from the lake. Kids loved fishing off the dock and caught tons of small fish and several large mouth bass. The lake is peaceful with wildlife everywhere. The property is part of a small grpup of 5 cabins with community access to fish cleaning shed, docks, firepit, outdoor seating and firepit. Everyone was so nice. It feela like youre in the middle of nowhere, but Iron River is only 10 mins drive away with everything you need. The cabin was comfortable clean for a cabin the the woods. The water is well water with a high sulfur/iron content and does produce a smell, so bring drinking water for personal drinking and cooking. We loved it and couldnt have asked for a more relaxing weekend getaway.
It was nice that we didn’t have to share the property all week. I was able to get a good walk in each morning and see lots of deer. I caught lots of fish off the docks with a couple other friendly campers. Took a nice little swim and visited with the neighbors. Everything was a short drive to the super 1 shopping area and met lots of nice people at the laundromat. Did lots of grilling and watched the sunset by the fire. There is a few friendly chipmunks that will keep you company. The loons have a sweet way of waking you up in the morning
Overall the cabin worked well for what it was! Definitely isn’t for people who don’t enjoy roughing it a little. There are multiple cabins around so there isn’t much privacy and the fire pit is a bit of a swamp. The cabin was pretty outdated and a bit of an odd layout but it was clean. I wouldn’t want to use the bedroom with the bunk beds in it.. smelled a bit like mold and was cramped. I think if you aren’t planning on spending much time inside this will work well.
Very nice clean cabin with the cabin feel. Don’t forget your towels and linens though. That part I over read oops. It made for good memories though lol.
Our stay was very pleasant. We enjoyed being next to the lake and actually caught some fish! There is no internet connection unless you are in an open area on top of your vehicle, just a heads up for any one who may require internet. Bring some DVDs or blu rays if you have them, it will be the perfect time to use them!
Just arrived home from a 6 night stay at this cozy lake side cabin and it was such a relaxing time. The people everywhere were so kind and the beauty of the surrounding area was something that I would have never imagined. Great place to recharge, fish and hike! Don’t miss a trip to Bond Falls!!

About the host
Hosted by Jesse Koch
Jesse - Luckily, I grew up in a family that had a lake cottage. My wife and I wanted our children to have that same experience of 'going to the cabin'. We are happy to share our piece of heaven with others when we are not able to use it! From the number of renters that keep coming back year after year, I can tell that Sunset Lake has a special place in their heart!
Why they chose this property
My wife and I decided to purchase 'The Muskie' after visiting the area and falling in love with all that Sunset Lake has to offer. Our family loves the combination of a great sandy beach, awesome fishing, a playground nearby, and the friendly attitude of all the people in the U.P.
What makes this property unique
Our family enjoys the beach and swimming most of all, but the campfires down by the lake are a close second! And, the fishing keeps even our young children entertained. The peacefulness of the U.P. cannot be overstated - uncrowded lakes, beautiful scenery (including amazing local waterfalls), and the friendliness of the people of Iron River. Once people have visited Sunset Lake they can't wait to get back!!!
