A double oven which provides ample space to cook multiple dishes at the same time is a great feature of the kitchen. There is a cabinet with a spice rack and basic things you might need such as salt and pepper.

If you would rather take the cooking outdoors, there is a 4-burner gas grill with propane supplied. It is hooked to the propane line, so you don't have to worry about running out or changing tanks. To turn the propane on, simply turn the timer on to the desired amount. It is attached to the deck, to the left of the grill. Please clean the grill after use.

There are multiple dining areas to choose from: dining table off the kitchen, picnic table on the covered porch, dining table in back family room with large picture window, or take your meals to the dock!

There is a Keurig Duo, which offers a 12c pot or single-serve convenience, a french press, frother, kettle and bean grinder. The bean grinder will be full of beans from Black and White Coffee Company. If you prefer a quick cup, there is a selection of K-cups. If coffee isn't your jam, there are some packets of Earl Grey tea. Either way, you can doctor it up with a selection of vanilla and caramel syrups, sugar/splenda and creamers. All you need to do now is head out to the porch to catch the beautiful sunrise views.

The coffee bar area is located off of the kitchen, in the laundry/pantry area.

☆☆ OUTSIDE SPACE ☆☆

The outside space is what it's all about when enjoying a lakeside vacation! The best place to be is on the newly built 1200sqft dock with boat slip and composite decking with CoolDeck Technology. It is located in a cove with main lake views, which is perfect for the kids to kayak on. In the storage shed, you will find 2 SUPs, 1 tandem kayak, 1 adult kayak and 2 youth kayaks, floats, and lots of life jackets. The water is 4ft at the end of the dock, which gives you ample depth to bring your boat in.

What better way to end the day, than relaxing by a bonfire? The fire pit area has 6 adirondack chairs with string lights above for the added ambience. We try to keep wood on hand, but if out, there is a store 12 mins down the road that supplies it.

Gret get awy
We enjoyed our stay very clean, had a fire in the pit fished off the dock. Laughed and enjoy. I will defiantly recommend Rio's retreat to anyone looking to relax and have a good time. Would love to go back again.

Such a beautiful, relaxing spot
This property was perfect for a family get together. We had a ton of fun on the dock, kayaking and with water sports. Cooking and barbecuing was made easy with the beautiful kitchen/coffee area in the outdoor barbecue. The fire pit was an added bonus as well as the board games! Would definitely recommend to friends

Enjoyable retreat
The accommodations were great and the extra touches such as the coffee bar, s’mores fixins, and wood for the fire pit showed that they genuinely cared about the renters’ experience. We’d definitely rent this property again.

Gem of a find on Gaston
Great getaway with our family (two boys 6,9). Perfect house with 3 bedrooms, 2 bath, kitchen and 2 livingroom areas - which was great for separate kid / adult hangout time. The dock was the best part with all the water toys you might need for a couple days with family. The closest restaurant and grocery store was a hike but we limited our trips and spent most of our time at home and on the water. We rented a pontoon and had a jet ski as well and they were perfectly secure at the dock. Debra was super responsive and helpful. Would definitely stay again!

About the host

Host profile image
We moved to Wake Forest in 2010, right as we were starting to build our family (I was pregnant with my first). As soon as I had my daughter, I decided to leave the workforce and focus on taking care of my family and house. Through the years I have filled my time with volunteering throughout the community. I am very active in the school's PTA, organize all of the social activities in my neighborhood (and we do lots!), and taught Sunday School when the kids were younger.
In the past few years, I have really developed a love for real estate investing. In my spare time, I love reading/listening/learning all things real estate ...even taxes (my nerdy side can't help it!). I take pride in my houses and in treating my tenants well.

Why they chose this property

I love real estate and I love hosting, so putting the two together seemed natural. In the past, I have only been involved in long term rentals and just ventured upon the short term rental world recently. I love the need it fills when you have outgrown the small space of a hotel room with no kitchen. I love the personal connections you make and the personal touches you can add when hosting short stays.
We have been going to Lake Gaston with family for many years and I love the memories the cousins have made over the years. I love that I can feel safe with my kids on their own in the cove away from all the boats and they all have life jackets on, so I can do a little bit of relaxing my own.
