Historic Home is a Disappointment
This could be a great home but it suffers from neglect.
But this home is in need of serious upkeep and repairs.
Upon arrival, the smell of old carpet mixed with cigarette smoke and possible mold was immediately in evidence. The primary bedroom was most troubling as the odor was most obvious and there are wet spots on the carpet near by the bed.
The lighting system would appear to have been top-of-line when installed but it's not been kept up. Some of the monitors do not work at all. The lights in and outside of the house do not respond to the electric switches. The hosts were of little help on the matter as they sent over a video which might have been useful in past times or if the systems were in fact intact.
Toilets are inconsistent in their operations as with some you must work to jiggle the handles to make them work.
The beauty of the indoor and outdoor ponds were lessened by the lack water of circulation. The water in the living area is evidently stale and mosquitos are in evidence.
The landscaping, pool and hot tub are in need of repairs. We were asked to pay an additional $600 - which we did - after we requested the pool and jacuzzi be heated.
Our families have rented high-end homes via VRBO in the past and we have never resorted to writing a negative review. This is our first and, hopefully, our last.
