Lake Michigan House with private beach access -- Oberon Cottage
Welcome to your summer vacation destination, where you will feel the breezes and the sounds of beautiful Lake Michigan from your back deck and bedrooms! A quick 2 minute walk will take you to the association's 80 steps down to 700 feet of shared private beach space. There you will find the most serene beach (salt free!) for reading a book, building sand castles, and catching breathtaking sunsets. While the big lake is an ever changing force from season to season, our beach is private, free of rocks and shells, with plenty of sand and crystal clear water. You can walk for four miles along the beach all the way to Pentwater!
Our house is thoughtfully designed to take care of all your needs. Two outdoor decks (each seating up to 6) provide areas for lounging and dining, with a firepit for roasting s'mores at the end of the day. Inside you will find a large living space with connected dining and kitchen areas. A large custom dining table seats 10. Three bedrooms and an additional full bed in the loft allow everyone a space to recover from days exploring West Michigan. We have beach chairs and two kayaks for your use, and we have the house stocked with toys, puzzles, games, TV, WiFi, DVD's -- all you need to do is get here! This is our family cottage, so go right ahead and use the extra ketchup or bottle of ranch in the fridge.
This area is packed with fun activities throughout your day. To the south is Silver Lake, a toy lover's paradise. Dune buggies, wave runners, and go-carts abound, whether you bring your own or rent for a day. Take a dune ride with Mac Woods and make sure you get Whippy Dip ice cream afterwards! To the north lies Pentwater, a quiet town with art galleries, fine dining, and quaint shops. Travel inland to find fun experiences at Lewis Adventure Farm & Zoo, Country Dairy, or keep going south for rollercoasters at Michigan's Adventure! If you're the kind who likes to sprinkle in some workouts on your vacation, check out the Hart-Montague bike trail which provides 25 miles of paved trails or the Pentwater Pathways trail for running, biking or cross country skiing. Michigan offers incredible seasons -- don't miss a chance to take in the fall colors or enjoy a quiet winter weekend snuggled up with a book and a blanket. Did we mention the beach??? No sharp rocks, gross seaweed, and sooooo private!
PLEASE READ: During the peak summer months (June- August), the house is available for 1 week rentals, Friday to Friday. Off-peak rentals are a 2 night minimum; a reduced cleaning fee of $140 can be requested.
If you are booking a family stay and want a professional family photo session since you're already all there together at the beach - Heather Heigel Photography and Jess Darling Photo are two wonderful humans and local photog's who will travel to Oberon Cottage/the private beach. The owners were easy to work with easy exit rules. The house was perfect for what we needed & has a great patio for enjoying the sound of waves with morning coffee.
We would definitely stay there again.
We have stayed at the Oberon Cottage 3 times now. We always check to see if it is available when we plan to be in the area. Great location. Great Host. Clean and great for family.
The house was laid out nicely, spacious with room to spread out, clean and nice light. The table large enough for family dinners and playing board games. The beach wasamazing.
The house is great and well stocked with everything you might need. Short walk to the steps down to the gorgeous private beach. Older kids had a blast with the Kayaks. And nothing beats a Lake Michigan sunset. Highly recommend!

About the host
Hosted by Josh Johnson
I live with my wife Angela in Grand Rapids, MI, which is a great mid-sized town. Michigan is amazing in the summer, and we spend most of our time around various rivers, lakes, and of course, Lake Michigan. In my free time I love running, biking, and brewing beer.
Why they chose this property
This cottage is just a 2 minute walk to Lake Michigan, salt and shark free! The beach is quiet, private, and serene. You can waste a day here with a book and a beer. The area is filled with fun things to do if you want -- from fishing to ATV's to huge sand dunes -- or you can just enjoy the privacy of this remote area of Michigan.
What makes this property unique
This house is clean! It has been maintained through its life. There are 3 different patio/deck areas to sit outside, tons of indoor and outdoor games to play, and the inside offers a large connected living & dining room to be connected to your entire family.
