About this property

Historic Property, Beautiful Views of Lancaster County, Close to Everything!

Spacious Sisters House is perfect for families or girlfriends getaways.
Amish buggies clip-clop past on the road, and chimes can be heard from a nearby church. This historic structure once housed a cigar factory - and the decor reflects those by-gone days. Modern amenities are included in DVD's, TVs with Roku and Netflix, WI-FI, Dream Machines, dishwasher, washer/dryer, central A/C. The upstairs bathroom includes a one-person Jacuzzi tub.
There is easy access to the first floor queen bedroom and full bathroom with walk-in shower - great for folks that don't want to deal with stairs. Two more bedrooms are upstairs - one has a king bed and the other a queen.
The sunroom overlooks the Weaverland Valley - some of the richest farmland in Lancaster County, The Sisters House sits on a dead-end road, adjacent to the flower gardens of The Artist's Inn. A short walk will take you to the town park that includes tennis courts, basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, picnic areas and plenty of space for kite-flying.
Kitchen comes complete with your first breakfast and includes home-baked goodies from the inn and a full cookie jar. This vacation rental uses green energy - solar panels on the roof provide the electricity for the Sophie portion of this historic 200 year old structure.
Enjoy the outside as well - there is plenty of room for gathering in the covered porch. You'll find lots of seating and a hammock. You are also welcome to use the adjoining firepit area that belongs to The Arti'st's Inn - our bed and breakfast.
Terre Hill is surrounded by farms, so fresh produce is nearby. There's an organic cheese maker just down the street and Shady Maple's Farmers Market and Smorgasbord is just three miles away.
The quaint little town of Adamstown is just a ten minute drive - known as The Antiques Capital of the USA.
Bring your walking shoes and bicycles...there are nearby trails, hikes and our back roads invite you to explore on your own.

The house was well furnished and a few extra touches of hospitality with breakfast options in the fridge and home baked goodies on hand. There was nice bedding and extras as well. It was close to shops, etc. The host responded quickly at 10 pm when we had a question. We would recommend this property as a comfortable accommodation.

Lovely and relaxing

We had a very relaxing visit. We loved that there were multiple spaces to rest and relax. Including when it got very warm the ability to still sit in the sun room with the air conditioner. There were multiple welcoming touches to make us feel at home and we would definitely stay again if we are in the area.

Lovely!

I stayed there with my mom, aunts and cousin to go fabric shopping. Jan sent me a list of where to go, and was so helpful and responded right away when we had questions. The house is lovely, perfect size for us all. It was nice to have a comfortable place to stay after we shopped. If we come back I'll be booking again!

Family vacation visiting the Amish country

The house was very clean and all prepared for us to stay. Home baked apple cake and breakfast were prepared. It was delicious!! We were visiting a farm and Amish stores. All were in 10-25 min distance and good ride for us especially with the beautiful scenery. Bruce was very friendly and we would like to come back someday!

Family fun

My two adult daughters and I do a long weekend get away each year. We chose to go to Lancaster PA this year. We stayed in the Sophie suite and it was just perfect. The place was clean and inviting. We had a chance to visit with Jan and what a wonderful lady! This was by far the best trip we have done. And whenever we are traveling to this area we will stay here again and again. It was a terrific place to relax and enjoy my girls.

Very comfortable stay

We spent a week here. This is a beautiful property in a nice quiet and convenient location. It's in a very small town, but close to pretty much anything you might care to do in the general vicinity (30 minutes or less). The property is very well kept - clean and well stocked (including with edible goodies, which is a very nice touch). We spent most of our time on the 4-season porch when we weren't out somewhere. It's bright and breezy, with HVAC when needed. There are 2 restaurants within a quarter mile walk - a diner/comfort food restaurant with a great menu and better service, and small pizza place which served up an amazing pizza. This property is definitely recommended and we'd stay here again.

Great stay! Exactly as advertised.

This trip was two adult daughters with their mother for a two night getaway. Everything was exactly as advertised. The house was very clean and there was a personal note with a jar of cookies and lemon bar baked goods on the table. There were a few quirks that were very well explained in the information packet as well as labeled on the item (for example there is a propane fire pit available for use that explained to use the lighter provided in the kitchen drawer to light it and when turning it off to use the provided work glove as it gets very hot. We were able to enjoy the fire pit just fine with these instructions.) We had everything we needed. Fully stocked kitchen (they left us eggs and cheese and sausage and cereal and milk and OJ as promised)... we cooked one meal and had everything we needed. There were towels and soaps for us. We commented many times that they really had thought of everything. We had no problem syncing in to the WiFi on our phones, however the ONLY thing that wasn’t perfect was when we tried to use the provided Roku to watch an Amazon Prime (included) movie. The signal strength of the WiFi was “poor” and could not handle it. We ended up bypassing the Roku and logging on to the TV using our own Netflix account and were able to watch the movie that way. Jan was very informative before our trip. We didn’t need her during our stay so we didn’t try to contact her but her cell was easily found if we did need her. It was a very very nice time had by all.

So welcoming, with yummy food!

Delicious cookies in the cookie jar, breakfast in the fridge - all in one lovely, welcoming, comfortable abode. And there is nothing as calming as listening to the clip, clop of horses hooves pulling wagons down the street. Highly recommended.

Peaceful getaway home with marvelous hosts

Jan and Bruce have created a beautiful oasis. We arrived to homemade cookies, and fixings to a delicious breakfast.Their guest house is thoughtfully and beautifully decorated, and the kitchen was well equipped if you wish to cook. We also enjoyed the numerous hangout seating areas inside and out. Located in the heart of Amish and Mennonite country, we were surrounded with gorgeous and peaceful settings, and a short drive to tourist sites. Our hosts arranged a dinner with a sweet Amish family for us-a dinner we treasure. We plan to come back again.

About the host

Bruce is a colored-pencil artist and I'm an innkeeper. We left corporate jobs 22 years ago to open The Artist's Inn (a bed and breakfast), and never looked back. The Sisters House is located right next door to the inn and the gardens of both blend together. Yes, I admit I've never met a flower I didn't like and have planted oodles of them for you to enjoy.
We are foodies and love to explore. We can offer great suggestions on local restaurants, fun things to do and places to see. You'll find a list of restaurant recommendations on our website. Don't worry - we're constantly updating it!

Why they chose this property

We purchased the Sisters House in 2007, reuniting the property with our inn - another dream come true. This is an undiscovered part of Lancaster County - ten minutes from the Antiques Capital of the USA.
We're proud to be inspected, licensed, legal and insured.

What makes this property unique

Our quiet corner of Lancaster County is home to both Amish and old-order Mennonites, so buggies and bicycles are a common sight. There's a local produce auction not a mile from the Sisters House - you'll be able to observe (and even buy produce) farmers and nursery offerings. It's a gardener's paradise as there are 7 local greenhouses located within 5 miles of the inn. Fresh produce is available from nearby farm stands, including several organic farms and cheese producers.
Because The Artist's Inn is a member of the local tourism community, we are able to offer discounts on theater tickets like Sight and Sound, American Music Theatre and Dutch Apple Dinner Theater.
The city of Lancaster is only about 20 minutes away - a great place to explore art galleries, First Fridays, free concerts in the park in the summer, and restaurants galore.
