About this property
Mint Cottage at Little Washington - a modern, spacious retreat with a view
Welcome to the Mint Cottage in Little Washington! This 1400-square-foot home with its luxurious appointments, spacious living area and breathtaking views is just a five-minute walk to the world-renowned Inn at Little Washington, a short drive to Three Blacksmiths in Sperryville, spectacular hiking in Shenandoah National Park, craft breweries, award-winning wineries, shops, galleries and so much more. It’s a modern, stylish, and comfortable place to retreat, relax and reinvigorate.
The main living space is a bright and airy open floor plan combining the living room, kitchen and dining room. If you’re traveling as a foursome, the top-grain leather sofa converts to a queen bed and all the linens and amenities needed for the two extra guests will be ready for your arrival. Pour your wine or cocktails in the bar area and sit at the expansive kitchen island as you prepare your food in the fully equipped kitchen. Enjoy your meals at the dining table overlooking the mountain views. Watch your favorite programs on the 75" Smart TV or just enjoy conversation or a good read in the comfortable living room with the candlelit fireplace.
Beyond the living room, there’s a half bath with a surprising twist: dark and dramatic Parisian wallpaper with a tranquil river scene of herons, toads, fish and lily pads, a custom acacia vanity, and distinctive Edison bulb light fixtures.
The front deck of the house has four comfortable rocking chairs and spectacular views of a quaint church, farmland and the mountains beyond. It's the perfect place to take in the sunset or your first sip of coffee in the morning.
The master bedroom features a king-sized bed with premium linens and a desk with a comfortable chair in case you can't entirely leave your work behind. French doors lead out onto a balcony with a bistro table and two chairs overlooking the large, private backyard. The sizable walk-in closet is not only an ample space to store your belongings, but it also has a full-length mirror with side lighting so you can get dressed for your evening in style. When it’s time to turn in for the night, close the blackout window treatments, turn on the ceiling fan and slip between the fine linens atop the brand new Beautyrest Napa Black mattress for a perfectly deep sleep.
The capacious master bathroom has a double vanity, a 52" round soaking tub, a glass enclosed shower and a private water closet. Grab a thick, terry robe, fluffy Supima towel and use the provided bath salts to soothe your muscles in the tub after a long hike or bike ride or simply to relax with your partner.
Whether you’re staying just one night or longer term, you’ll have all the comforts of home -- all to yourself and on one level -- including a separate walk-in pantry with a dishwasher, sink, microwave and small appliances, a dedicated laundry room with new Samsung washer and dryer, abundant space both for socializing and storage, and off-street parking for up to four cars. Private and quiet, impeccably clean, thoughtfully appointed and supremely comfortable, we hope The Mint Cottage will become your favorite place to unwind.

About the host
Hosted by John and Diane MacPherson

Twenty years ago, we left our corporate jobs in southern California to start our careers in hospitality in Rappahannock County and have never looked back. We’d been married less than a year at the time, but quickly discovered we’re happiest – and at our best -- when we’re working together. We ran The Foster Harris House (just up the street from the Mint Cottage) for 13 years, published a cookbook, and ran local cycling tours. After that, we transformed a neglected building in Sperryville into the award-winning Three Blacksmiths restaurant. When we had an opportunity to buy an unloved, vacant building in Little Washington, we couldn’t pass up the chance to conceptualize and create what we think is the perfect guest accommodation.
