About this property
Beautiful home with hot tub in native rainforest
Hale 'Apapane is a large, well decorated home located near the heart of Volcano Village and 1 mile from Volcano National Park. It has 2.5 baths, 3 bedrooms, 4 beds, a large living area, and a 4 person hot tub. We have a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, hot tub, back deck with a gas grill, and a covered basketball court. The house is set in the native forest with giant Hapu‘u ferns, ‘o‘hia trees, and native birds all around.
My wife and I moved here in 2006 with our kids, designed and built this house with other family. We lived here for the next few years, worked on the landscaping, and decorated it with local art and photography. The house has its own solar energy and filtered, drinkable catchment water.
The house has a open floor plan downstairs and lots of windows to look out on the rainforest. It is a good layout for large groups or families as it facilitates connection, but also has private feeling bedrooms upstairs that have some separation from each other. The master bedroom has its own bathroom, and there is another full bathroom upstairs for the other two bedrooms. We have a laundry room with a washer and dryer, a smart TV with high speed wifi.
The covered basketball court is a big hit with families with kids, as it does rain in Volcano often. We have some board games and toys as well. The back deck is set looking out on the rainforest and lush landscape and the hot tub is a great place to unwind after a day of activity at Volcanoes National Park or somewhere else.
We are a 5 minute drive to Volcanoes National Park and a 2 minute drive to Volcano Village. Volcano is a cute little town with a few restaurants, general stores, a community center, playground, and a nice farmers market on Sundays.
Volcano is at 3500 feet in a high elevation tropical rainforest, so it is never too hot. It can be chilly and damp depending on the weather, so it is nice to have the mini split heater and wood stove.

About the host
Hosted by Adam Jacobstein

I live in San Francisco, California, and love to visit the Big Island when I can. This home was built by my brother, also the manager of the property for his family in 2007.
Why they chose this property
Hale Apapane was built by Adam Jacobstein, the owner's brother, and was his family's home for 6 years before they moved off of Hawaii Island. It has been very carefully designed to take advantage of the surrounding landscape, with large windows, and enough room for a big group to feel together in the open living space, but still have separate areas upstairs. The furniture is all high quality and it was decorated with a purpose in mind.
What makes this property unique
The house is large and open inside. It has special artwork from local artists and photographers. It hace hot tub, a swing in the yard, and a large covered carport for playing basketball or hanging out.
