Volcano stay

We chose this property as base for a day in the Volcano National Park. Minutes outside the park it was a perfect stay to get an early start and enjoy the park early in the day and virtually to ourselves. We were close enough to stop back for lunch and plan our afternoon back in the park. The property is welcoming and a great stay.

Unit very spacious and lots of room to spread out and relax. Everything nicely renovated as advertised and more w/ the exception of the 3rd bedroom having a king size bed instead of bunks. Fireplace was a plus during the chilly nights and covered parking helped keep us dry from the rain. Located near the end of the street in a quiet neighborhood. Host very responsive. Check in/out instructions clear and concise. Would return.

Fantastic home! Everything you need for a great stay -- it will feel like you're at home. Our family loved our stay at Ohia Lehua Hale. If you're going to the National Park or hanging around the South Shore, book without hesitation.The home was very clean and spacious. The lanai with its hot tub, citronella and scented candles, rocking chair, dining table, and furniture was wonderful during the cool, misty nights.The home is in a neighborhood but is spread out so that you feel like you're in your own little world, yet you're 5 minutes from Volcano Village and 10 minutes from Volcanoes National Park.Clean, well-equipped kitchen with everything you need for breakfast, late night, or even cooking a full meal.Just stay here!

Why they chose this property

We chose Volcano because our friends brought us here on a "staycation" to check out the area, and we absolutely fell in love with the area. Volcano is different from other parts of Hawaii, which makes it special. Here, we are surrounded by lush forest and native plants and flowers, and we appreciate cooler temperatures. We enjoy visits to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and its hiking trails, Volcano Winery, Akatsuka Orchid Gardens, the local farmers market, a variety of local restaurants, and an easy drive to Hilo town.

What makes this property unique

Japanese culture has had a lasting influence on the culture of Hawaii. Japanese immigration to Hawaii began in the late 1800s. Japanese business people and workers came to Hawaii in search of opportunity and eventually settled here. The Japanese influence can be seen throughout Hawaii in art, architecture, and our local foods. Ohi'a Lehua Hale was renovated in late 2024 to celebrate the close bond between Hawaii and Japan. In Volcano, our local stores and school were founded by immigrants from Japan and are a treasured part of our community. We hope that you will enjoy the clean aesthetics and natural influences of the Ohi'a Lehua Hale. We love this property, and we hope you will too.
