About this property
Casa de Los Artistas
The Location:
This beautiful two-story home is located in the heart of a historic downtown Albuquerque neighborhood. The charming neighborhood, which is over a century old, is highly walkable and bike-friendly, with a well-established bike route just a half-block away from the Airbnb. Within a block or two, there are numerous restaurants and coffee shops to choose from. This prime location is perfect for anyone looking to explore the city, with so many attractions just a short drive away.
The Space:
Built in 1908 by Edward Frank, this house is a prime example of Queen Anne styling. Originally a two-bedroom, one-bath home, it has since been renovated and remodeled, with the project being completed in early 2023. The house is now about 1600 sq-ft with three bedrooms and two and a half baths. All of the appliances and most of the furniture are brand new as of 2023, making for a comfortable and modern living experience.
The first level of the house features the living room, dining room, kitchen, master bedroom, master bath, and guest bath. Upon entering, one may feel as though they have been transported back in time to a year when the Wright Brothers were showcasing their flying machine and Ford's first Model T was coming off the assembly line. The majority of the doors, windows, and wood trim on this level are original to the house's construction in 1908. The interior doors retain their original locks, complete with skeleton keys, while the windows, many of which feature classic wavy glass, operate via ropes, pulleys, and weights. All of these have been meticulously renovated. Even the wood floors have stood the test of time, remaining original to the house's construction.
The living room features a large, comfortable leather sofa and a large high-definition TV, perfect for relaxation and entertainment.
The dining room is characterized by its impressive size and the prominently placed original built-in china cabinet. A large dining room table with benches can comfortably seat 6 adults.
The kitchen is sleek and modern, with a gas stove with double gas oven, microwave, large refrigerator, dishwasher, hot water kettle, coffee maker, toaster, and everything you need to make a fabulous meal. The kitchen countertops are made of concrete and recycled glass. The kitchen island has a small seating area and the countertop itself has a feature that is guaranteed to wow guests.
The master bedroom is of medium size and features a comfortable king-size bed with a range of pillow options. Guests can enjoy the 42” high-def TV and make use of the spacious master closet with plenty of shelves for storage. The master bath is stunning. Guests can choose to re-energize in the spectacular slate shower using locally made shampoo, conditioner, and body wash products or relax in the original clawfoot bathtub that has been renovated. The bathroom’s electrically heated floor is bound to keep feet happy in the wintertime. Soft luxurious towels are provided.
The upstairs is newly constructed and includes a laundry room, a beautiful full-size bathroom, a reading room/study, two large bedrooms with comfortable queen-size beds and ample pillow options. Both rooms feature closets with plenty of shelves for storage, but no TV.
A playroom is connected to Bedroom 3 through a 2' wide passage (but no door). The playroom is 9' wide and about 10' long. The ceiling is pitched and is about 6' tall along the center of the room. This room can be converted to a sleeping area by installing a queen-size air mattress. This is a cute area and kids would love to sleep there, but two tall adults might find getting out of bed a bit awkward.
There is a supply of books, toys, and vintage board games to entertain guests. The upstairs has some playful features that will delight guests and children alike. Some of these features are not immediately obvious. Curious minds will discover them during their stay.
The house has central air conditioning/heating for guests' comfort and high-speed internet (2.5 and 5G) is provided. All TVs are smart, but guests need to log into their own account to watch their programs.
Both levels of the house have a variety of interesting art displayed. This VRBO is promoting local artists by giving them an opportunity to show their art in a home setting. A professional art curator was involved in the selection and placement of the art. Most of the art on display is for sale commission-free. Details of the art and the seven local artists are available in the Casa de los Artistas manual.
Guests can enjoy their morning beverage in the large private backyard with a deck and patio furniture, as well as seating under a huge majestic shade tree.
Restrictions: No cats. Other pets will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

About the host
Hosted by Brad Otis

I earned my Mechanical Engineering degree here from UNM many years ago. I moved to Texas for the next 30 years (same job). I then moved back to ABQ to finish up my career. I'm a retired engineer who loves life and doesn't want to waste it watching TV. I'm very busy with exercise (long distance running and mountain biking), home projects, and cooking. I spent 5 very busy years working on the 1004 Forrester house. I'm now looking forward to shifting my energy to working on my hot rod (a completely custom hand built 1938 Cord) and exploring new skills. As a host, my default is to respect your privacy (be invisible while being100% available if needed... we live only a few houses away). I do enjoy chatting with talkative guests though! The best part of hosting is the feedback from the guests.... it is extremely rewarding to hear that their stay was extraordinary and memorable.
Why they chose this property
In every city we have lived in, my wife and I have always gravitated towards historic neighborhoods because 1) they have character...typically all of the houses look different and interesting, 2) the neighborhoods are extremely walkable with sidewalks and large shade trees, 3) most houses have front porches where people hang out (easier to meet people), 4) many of the houses have no garages so you can't park in a garage and sneak into your house. You have to park your car and walk outside and into your house where your neighbor (sitting on their porch) has a chance to chat! This combination of features makes for a very strong community. People not only know each other but they look out for each other.
We picked this particular neighborhood because it was so close to Downtown, Old Town, and the Rio Grande.
What makes this property unique
This VRBO is NOT your typical house.... it really IS unique! Look at my reviews. You will find this house extremely clean, very comfortable, very interesting, and memorable for the following reasons:
1. I can't stand seeing hair on the floor! We clean this house thoroughly!
2. No expenses were spared for your comfort. We have premium beds, pillows, and linens. Bath towels are resort quality.
3. The house is a historic one that has been meticulously restored (the attention to detail will surprise you).
4. All of the remodeling was very carefully designed and constructed to my very high standards.
5. This VRBO features great artwork from 7-9 local artists (selected and arranged by a professional art curator).
6. The second floor has some interesting and playful features that you will never find in any home.
Yeah, this is the outcome of letting my inner artist loose on a house project with no budget or no schedule!
