Uncle Rick’s Cabin: A Pike National Forest Basecamp
Escape to Uncle Rick's Cabin, where luxury meets high-altitude wandering. Tucked deep in the Pike National Forest, our basecamp is designed for those who want to swap city noise for towering pines. Think cloud-soft linens, a Breeo smokeless firepit, and endless forest views. Whether you’re here to summit Pikes Peak or master the art of the mountain nap, we’ve got the keys. 6 miles to Woodland Park, but miles from the "real world." Out-of-office attire encouraged.
The space Welcome to your 880 sq. ft. mountain sanctuary. Uncle Rick’s isn't just a cabin; it’s a curated retreat where the rugged beauty of the Pike National Forest meets designer comfort. Take a virtual stroll through our Matterport tour (scan the QR in the photos!) to see the layout for yourself.
The Great Indoors Living Area: Think Mountain Industrial. Rugged enough for a National Forest basecamp, but refined enough for a glass of wine by the wood-burning stove. We’ve swapped the clutter for high ceilings, forest views, and a large, deep-seated sectional perfect for post-hike lounging. Catch a movie on the HDTV. Note: Bring your logins for Netflix, Disney+, and YouTube TV.
The Kitchen: Fully equipped with modern appliances and a dining area for four. Whether it’s a slow brunch or a post-hike dinner, we’ve got the gear you need to cook like a pro.
Sleeping Quarters: *Primary: One queen bedroom with cloud-soft linens.
The Bunk Nook: Twin bunk beds tucked just off the living area (the ultimate "fort" for kids or extra wanderers).
The Extras: We also provide a queen air mattress for those who need a little more flex in their sleeping arrangements.
The Spa (Bathroom): Modern fixtures, an adjustable-height shower head, and premium toiletries. Plus, a free washer and dryer so you can refresh your gear after a day on the trails.
High-Altitude Living The Deck: Our favorite room in the house. A spacious overlook featuring rocking chairs and loungers. It’s the ultimate spot for your first cup of coffee or an evening of stargazing.
The "Outpost" (Exterior): Step off the deck and straight into the Pike National Forest. Fire up the grill, kick back in the hammock, or test out the Breeo smokeless firepit in the driveway.
Climate: At 8,200 feet, we let nature do the cooling. There is no A/C at the cabin. Simply open the windows and let the crisp mountain air flow through. For winter stays, our heating system keeps things perfectly toasty.
The Vibe Total privacy. Total tranquility. We’re deep enough in the woods that the only "noise" you’ll hear is the wind in the pines and the local wildlife (moose, deer, and turkeys are our regulars).
Guest access You have the entire cabin to yourself. While there are a couple of other private cabins nearby in this stretch of the forest, the orientation of our deck and windows is designed for maximum privacy.
The Pike National Forest is your literal backyard. You have direct access to miles of wilderness right from your doorstep. Wander as far as you like and then return to your private basecamp to recharge.
We provide a seamless keyless entry system so you can arrive and start your adventure on your own schedule. The woods are yours to explore.
Other things to note Winter Travel Requirements During the winter months, AWD or 4x4 is strictly required to reach the cabin. The last half mile of the forest road is long and steep. It can become very slick with ice and snow. We also highly recommend carrying tire chains in your vehicle during the snow season. Please drive slowly and prioritize safety when making the climb.
The Centennial Trail For those looking to move, the Centennial Trail is a local favorite that runs along the state highway from Woodland Park to Manitou Lake. Our cabin is located about one mile from the highway and sits near the midpoint of this 14.7 mile paved path. It is a fantastic opportunity to walk, run, or bike toward town or the lake.
Trail Access Parking If you want to use the trail without the steep walk back up the cabin road, parking is available on Forest Road 339 near the trail and highway intersection. It is a great way to start your morning wander.

Stay was wonderful. One of the best properties and great communication from host. We enjoyed our stay so much thanks to the amazing property. Was beautiful to look up at the stars, on the porch. We hope to return soon and recommend this property to anyone looking for a secluded cute cottage to rent. Lots of birds and they thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable.
Wow! Exceeded our expectations. Absolutely loved everything about this place kitchen was nicely stocked, Bed was comfortable and the bathroom towels well I felt like I was at a luxury hotel they were so plush! Surrounded by woods, the peace and quiet was much needed by both my husband and myself. lovely 4 day stay!
We can’t wait to come back to Uncle Rick’s cabin. We loved opening all the windows and listening to the forest. We appreciated how well equipped the kitchen is and how clean the property was.
We had a great stay in cozy cabin. It felt just remote enough to relax and recharge. As others have said, highly rec an SUV or 4WD vehicle for just one small steep portion of the road in. The surrounding forest is beautiful and the cabin had everything we needed!
Beautiful cabin in what seems like the middle of nowhere but is only a short drive to Woodland Park. Great view, comfortable beds, and all you could need stocked in the kitchen. We didn’t realize the second bedroom was open to the living room, but since we were with our son, it was fine. Would highly recommend.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The house is smartly designed and has wonderful views. We were there for an extended stay and enjoyed sunrises lighting up the deck, walks and runs on the surrounding roads and trails, and the cozy fireplace. The host was superb. We highly recommend the place!
Our stay was wonderful. The cabin was in the heart of the mountains, yet still close to town. Cabin had everything we needed and more. We felt right at home and enjoyed sitting out on the porch listening to the wind in the trees. We loved our time .
Our second visit in as many months! This lovely cabin is the perfect getaway. No traffic sounds, crazy kids on motor scooters - you get what I mean. The quiet is sublime. The cabin is beautifully stocked with coffee maker, toaster, microwave - all the basics. Each visit we took advantage and cooked all of our meals. Be careful as the smoke detector is a bit sensitive to a high heat sear of beautiful filet mignon. Might be best to use the bbq next time!I've attached an okay pic of the harvest moon!
The check-in process was easy. The home had lots of amenities and everything that you would need for your stay plus was well stocked on extras. It is very cozy and quiet at the home. The owners were easy to work with and very responsive to our questions. If you want to get off the highway or out of town, it is a perfect location. We would suggest however that you have a 4x4 or all wheel drive vehicle with good clearance as a regular car may have some issues on the long drive up from the highway. We loved our stay and the convenience to local trails and only being a few minutes from town to get necessities or go out for a meal. Thanks for a great place!
The house was great and has everything you would need to enjoy your time there. A lot of thoughtful things like extra towels, sheets, soaps etc. It is a beautiful property with lots of wildlife interactions every day. Lots of deer, squirrels, birds and we even heard elk in the immediate area. We will definitely be back to this location.
The property exceeded my expectations. The cabin had everything you could ever need. My favorite feature was the windows that overlooked the east. The views were surreal. The drive up the hill was a little scary but worth it in the end. I loved the feel of the cabin. You can tell the owners value family and care for their guests. I would definitely return!!
As if 5 stars were enough! I cannot say enough great things about our stay. The house is beautiful and truly has everything you need! It is the perfect distance from the city/attractions while still providing seclusion. The host is very communicative and the manual with directions that was provided before check-in was very useful and appreciated. This is by far my favorite Colorado rental I’ve had the privilege of staying in and we will be back as soon as we can! Thank you! :)
We cannot overstate how much we loved our stay at Uncle Rick’s Cabin! It is even more gorgeous and homey than in the pictures. Everything you could need for yourself and your kiddos is there. The location is perfect to be able to access tons of hiking while also nearby to groceries and any other amenities you might need. The host was kind and responsive. We had everything we needed and more already at the cabin which made our stay very easy. We were able to cook for every meal which is rare at rentals these days. There were plenty of games as well as picnic blankets, a hammock, rocking chairs and a grill to enjance our stay. We can’t wait to go back to Uncle Rick’s Cabin in the future!
Our family came to the Pike's Peak area to visit. This home was an excellent home base for all of the area attractions. Although we couldn't get to the summit of Pike's Peak due to weather conditions, we did enjoy Garden of the Gods, the Florissant Fossil Beds, and the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center. The home had all of the amenities that we needed and it was clean and comfortable. The drive up was a little steep, but it wasn't overly concerning with a Toyota 4Runner. I would definitely recommend 4WD or AWD in the rain or winter time. The kids enjoyed exploring the property and the road around the house and were excited that they saw a hummingbird in the mountains! They loved the bunk beds and games, too! And the soft, comfy throw blankets were a nice touch on chilly nights sitting around the fireplace! Thank you for sharing your piece of mountain paradise with our family! When we come back to Woodland Park, we will definitely stay with you again!

About the host
Hosted by Bryce Karr
We are lifelong travelers who believe the best adventures require a great home base. Before starting our careers stateside, we lived in South Korea for a year and a half. Our journey has taken us from the tropical coastlines of Thailand and Bali to the rugged, windswept landscapes of Iceland and Ireland.
These global experiences shaped our philosophy as hosts. We know that the difference between a good trip and an unforgettable one often lies in the details. We built Uncle Rick’s Cabin to be the exact kind of retreat we look for during our own travels. It is a place that respects the ruggedness of the outdoors while providing a refined, comfortable space to recharge. When we aren't out exploring a new corner of the world, we are dedicated to ensuring your stay in the Pike National Forest is seamless and restorative.
Why they chose this property
We chose this specific location because it offers a rare sense of "frontier privacy" without being completely disconnected. Sitting at 8,200 feet, the air is crisp and the silence is absolute. What we love most is the immediate access to the Pike National Forest. Having miles of wilderness as your literal backyard is a luxury you can't find just anywhere.
The neighborhood is a quiet collection of retreats where nature remains the primary resident. We frequently share the property with moose, deer, and turkeys. While you feel worlds away from the hustle, you are still close enough to Woodland Park to grab supplies or enjoy a local meal. It is the perfect balance for anyone who wants to disappear into the pines for a few days but still appreciates a paved trail or a nearby coffee shop.
What makes this property unique
Uncle Rick’s Cabin stands out because it rejects the "cluttered cabin" cliché in favor of a curated Mountain Industrial aesthetic. We have replaced the traditional sleeper sofa with a large, deep-seated sectional sofa designed for true relaxation. With high ceilings and forest views from every window, the 880 square foot layout feels incredibly open and airy.
The indoor-outdoor flow is what truly defines the experience here. Our spacious deck acts as an outdoor living room where you can watch the sunrise over the pines. We have also brought in premium amenities like the Breeo smokeless fire pit in the driveway and a seamless keyless entry system. This is a property designed for the modern adventurer: someone who wants to hike hard during the day and return to a designer space with high-end linens, a wood-burning stove, and total tranquility.
