We will start with the positive, the place is very clean. However, we are unhappy with our stay & knowing what we now know, we wouldn’t have booked this place. The ad is misleading, it shows a lake view and beach area - so we assumed it was a cute little 2 room motel on a lake.
The room looked small, but we felt the lake view & beach area would make it worth it. We tried to call & confirm all this but we couldn’t reach the owner, so we booked it (Sun @ 6pm). Well, there isn’t a lake view / beach. The view is the fire dept across the street. We found this out on Mon morning, we reached the owner & he tells me its not on a lake. I explained what it looked like to us & we were counting on that, and asked for a refund? He said no to the refund. So we were stuck there.
We checked in Wed, the room was hot. We felt some cool air coming through the vents but couldn’t find a thermostat in the room to cool the room off more. On Friday storms came in, we lost ALL power, had no water, no way to use the toilet - it could not be flushed. It was like this all night and through the morning so we decided to leave because we did not know when power would come back on. This is beyond the owners control & we are not blaming him, but it added to our unfortunate vacay.
The owner refunded us for one night when we lost power - but I feel that we should have gotten a full refund because the ad is deceiving. We felt duped w/the lake view & beach photos which have NOTHING to do with the rental.

The description of the photo showing the lake and beach of Long Lake was provided to indicate local attractions. While the guest called the following morning to ask about the lake view, they admited they had made the mistake and made the assumption the lake view and beach was on the property. After informing them it was was not, they indicated they would discuss the sitution and call back. Guest did not call back.. so I assumed the decided the great value of $89/night was worth the short 2 minute walk to the beach.
The Northwoods Lodge is a simple, convient location to the Roadhouse in Long Lake, with years of returning guest. It was unfortunate they did not see the description. VRBO would actually like to see us post as many as 50 photos per listing, so obviously there are going to photos of the local area (most of Florence County) to share the local attractions and areas of interest.
The storm was unfortunate and as mentioned it was out of our control. We gractiously refunded the last night, even through the power was back on around noon. - The Owner.
