About this property

North Shore 2-Story Rustic Yurt Glamping Lodge Tropical Nature Rental Near Beach

Tropical North Shore Island Nature Retreat! 2.5 blocks to the beach & famous surf breaks. Close to historic Haleiwa town & many other gorgeous North Shore beaches & world-class surfing!

Rental is a 2-Story Yurt with a generous 1500+ square foot open-concept floor plan. Sleeps up to 11 people. Features a kitchen & full bathroom amenities. The hot water in the bathroom is glitchy, sorry, but there are additional outdoor showers available with hot water near the yurt. Some of the fabric windows on the yurt do not close properly.

Description
This unique 1500 square foot glamping space features 2-stories of unique living space. The 4 bedroom open concept floor plan features 6 beds, a kitchen and a bathroom in the yurt, and a hot outdoor shower near the front of the yurt. The first story has the kitchen, living space with 2 pull-out memory foam sofa sleepers (one double and one queen), and a bedroom with a queen bed. The second story has 3 open-concept bedrooms, one with a queen bed, one with a full bed, and one with a twin bed and loveseat couch. The yurt can sleep up to 11 people. Please note that there are no doors to any of the open-concept bedrooms. The bedrooms just have partition walls with open walkways between the rooms (see pictures) and no bedroom doors. Please remember this is a yurt, so there is minimal framing, no drywall, and all rooms are connected & open, except for the bathroom which does have a door. No drywall on the walls means that electrical boxes and wires are exposed, which is why we disclose that this is an unsafe space for children & infants.

This glamping yurt is located on a 2+ acre gated country estate with many mature fruit trees. You are welcome to eat from our orchards as long as you leave some fruit for others to enjoy, too. Located in a country setting with typical country sounds like dogs, roosters, road noise, and the sounds of big waves breaking during the winter! If there is an emergency, there will be sirens from the emergency vehicles, and the neighborhood dogs will howl and bark because the sirens hurt their ears, but once the sirens pass, they will stop.

The property entrance is a large driveway gate that you will need to put a code into a padlock and manually push open and close behind you every time you enter and exit the property. There are other long-term tenants and dogs on the property.

The hot water heater inside the attached yurt bathroom is a bit glitchy, sorry. It works, but needs to be reset often. The hot water system is an on-demand outdoor camping propane heater, and these can be a bit finnicky. The hot water heater system will need to be reset if the water does not stay hot or is not getting hot at all. Please message the host immediately if the hot water is not working so we can reset the heater for you. There is also an outdoor shower near the front of the yurt that has very hot water, which you can use anytime.

The yurt is older and has some issues. A few of the screens on the windows are ripped, broken, or missing altogether. Some of the windows also do not fully close, so rain can come in through the gaps. We have clips and clamps on the fabric windows to keep them shut. The windows do not have any glass: they are made of fabric with velcro closures, so they are safe. If rain comes in through the upstairs windows, it will affect both stories with rainwater coming inside. There is also an approximately 8 foot section where the roof leaks at the wall near the front door during heavy rain. It is important that you do not put anything in that area as it will get wet!

If you are unfamiliar with a yurt, please note that this is a wooden deck structure with canvas fabric walls & roof. To access the second story, you will need to climb up and down a spiral staircase with narrow footspace on the steps, and it could be dangerous for children or adults with difficulty walking or climbing stairs.

The yurt is not air-tight, so there is no a/c available. The space can heat up quickly during warm weather, especially during the afternoons on sunny days, and in the summer months. The skylight dome at the top of the yurt creates a convection which pulls heat out the top of the yurt. In order for the hot air to go out the top, you will need to open the windows to cool the yurt temperature down. Do not leave the windows open, though, because there is no awning or roof over them, and if it rains, rain water will come in the yurt and get everything inside the yurt wet. You must close all windows every time you leave the yurt! Once you return, simply open the windows and the skylight dome will quickly suck all the hot air out the top and bring cool air in through the floor & windows!

Being unsealed, there are spaces for geckos, lizards, flies, roaches, spiders, ants, mosquitoes, rodents, centipedes, scorpions, termites, and other critters to come in, especially if you leave food out. If you would be scared or unhappy by seeing critters in your space, then please do not book this yurt. If bugs come in, they will also defecate in the unit. If you see little brown & white poops, these are gecko or lizard poops. Geckos & lizards eat the bugs, so if you see the brown/white poops, that means they are eating the bugs inside! Some critters also come in and hide as is their nature, like roaches, lizards, geckos, ants, etc. If these critters hide in the furniture, they can get trapped and perish, so you may see deceased critters. Our cleaner does thorougly clean the unit prior to each reservation, however, if critters are hiding in the furniture, the cleaners will not be able to find or remove them. Please remember this is a camping nature rental, and the critters are part of nature!

Additionally, being essentially a tent, the space is also not weatherproof. In wind or rain events, water can come inside the yurt, especially if you do not completely close all the windows. Also, when it rains, the yard gets muddy. This is a 'nature' camping rental. If you would be upset by getting a little wet & dirty during rainy weather when it gets muddy outside, this may not be the right rental for you.

This country neighborhood also has quite a few dogs and chickens, so please be aware that you will hear dogs and chickens during the day, and at night. The neighborhood dogs will bark if there is another dog or a suspicious person walking through the neighborhood. Additionally, like all dogs do everywhere, the neighborhood dogs bark and howl every time there is an emergency vehicle siren driving through town. Dogs' hearing are better than humans' so they can hear distant sirens that we cannot hear. If you would be upset by hearing neighborhood dogs barking and howling loudly at an ems siren at night, or roosters crowing from three in the morning, then please do not book this yurt!

Please do not book this space if you are not comfortable spending your vacation the way we have described the experience above. Mahalo

Please do not bring any animals to this property. There is an outdoor dog on property who lives in the yard who loves people but does not like other dogs. For everyone's safety, please do not bring animals to this property! Our cleaner also uses essential oils for cleaning the inside of the unit which are safe for human beings of all ages, but these essential oils are known to be toxic and fatal to dogs. The entire property including inside of this space and all outdoor areas of the property an unsafe environment for any animals of any kind to come to.

You will need to select the travel insurance when making your reservation to insure your stay and get any type of refund should your travel plans change. The host is unable to provide any refunds in the event that you need to cancel your reservation for any reason. In the event of a utility outage, the host is not responsible for any loss of utility usage or inability to access amenities including water, hot water, electricity, wifi, fans, cooking equipment, coffee maker, lights, ability to charge your devices, etc. No refunds will be issued for utility loss due to weather or other unforseen circumstances from the utility companies. More SHABBY than chic.
Read the description thoroughly before booking. It is VERY rustic. Although the location is ideal for North Shore exploration and the neighbors are super sweet and helpful, the yurt can use some much needed TLC. For example, of the 14 windows upstairs where it is hottest, only 3 windows have screens. The hot water heater had to be reset almost daily with no hot water reaching the kitchen where the sprayer was stuck on till we managed to fix it. The painted surfaces and floors are dirty and scuffed, there is no dining table or enough seating. Some of the cookware is too gross to use, there are no serving bowls, and the knives were so dull, we had to buy our own. There is no wifi, no shades on the lamps, not enough bedding, and the sheets on the pull outs are smaller than the mattresses. Only one roll of toilet paper is provided. We made the best of it and had a great laugh when one of the men screamed like a little girl when he encountered a tarantula sized spider in the shower, but the price being charged is double what this place is worth. I would definitely not book it again.

Tropical Tranquility!
We really enjoyed our time at this yurt. It was so peaceful. It was like staying in a very spacious treehouse and we just loved it. I really enjoyed cooking in the circular kitchen, which was well-equipped with everything we needed, nothing we didn't need. Great location close to the beach and north shore activities. The fresh mangos and avocados we got to enjoy daily from the host's organic orchards were an added bonus! We will be back!
