About this property
Beautiful Home In Historic Cathar Village In Languedoc Wine Region.
This sweet home is located in the Ancient Cathar village of Aigne in the Herault, a natural park preserve just north of the Pyrenees Mountains and near the famous medieval castle city Carcassonne. A carriage house in ancient times, the house has been beautifully renovated while preserving the ancient walls and fixtures so you can enjoy the authentic and rustic charm of the house while living with all the comforts of a modern home. Tucked into a quiet stone courtyard you can luxuriate in the privacy of this elegant home. Just outside the courtyard you are only steps away from the historical village walk, a gourmet restaurant which focuses on dishes made from area products and the village wineries.
The small house is perfect for a romantic get-away. If friends stop by for a visit there is also a couch upstairs which makes into a comfortable double bed. There is a low ceilinged mezzanine loft above the kitchen which is perfect for storing luggage, shopping and personal items but also has a double bed which is fun for kids.
Wonderful amenities with attention to detail are provided including, dimmers on the lights, a fireplace and writing desk in the bedroom, washer and dryer, plush towels and a towel warmer (a skylight in the shower!) artisan bath products, 100% cotton & down and down alternative bedding, hand turned pottery from the area artists, Provencal quilts and textiles and a gourmet kitchen with a 5 burner gas stove, copper pans, good knives and appliances, everything you need to prepare gourmet meals after shopping at the area street markets! Light maid service is provided upon request.

About the host
Hosted by Kimmie Rhodes

Owner of the house, Kimmie Rhodes, multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter created this house to be a refuge during long tours of Europe. She refers to it as 'a quiet place to write & practice new songs & do laundry!' She & friends visit her home in Aigne for a peaceful, relaxing & fun place to eat, drink & play music & she loves to be 'tour guide' taking her company on adventures to the many historic sites, wonderful restaurants, markets, antique shopping 'brocantes', mountain vistas, canal views, seaside beaches, national parks, pre-historic caves etc... in the area. She enjoys the proximity to Spain & Costa Brava, the Pyrenees mountains, Provence & The Camargue (home to gypsies wild horses & pink flamingoes) but enjoys being able to escape the crowds & drink wine at sundown in the seclusion of the courtyard of the beautiful rare village which is so protected that bakeries, gas stations & all businesses with the exception of the Gourmet restaurant Le Cagarol (named after the snail shape of the ancient village fortress) & village artists are banned but still only 2 minutes away in the nearby village of Aigues Vives. She is a real 'foodie' at heart and a gourmet cook. One of her main reasons for settling in France was to be able to peruse the local markets, especially the grand daily food market in nearby Narbonne & create courses paired with the wonderful local Languedoc wines to delight her friends. She is a true 'bohemian artist' type and feels this village & house provide the perfect canvas for a rich life well lived. She enjoys treasure hunting in order to decorate the uncluttered but well appointed house with cool finds and comforts and has found great joy in the renovation challenge of transforming the 1000 year old stable into an elegant get-away complete with chandeliers on dimmers, fireplace, wifi & all the modern conveniences while maintaining the house's integrity. Her philosophy is that no house should stand empty so she has offered it on Home Away.
Why they chose this property
Kimmie chose this area of France because of the rich cultural history of the Cathars and the many historic castle towns like Carcassonne and Minerve, Aigne being the smallest and most well preserved and secluded of all. The area has fantastic proximity to her favorite places to visit; Spain, The Pyrenees Mountains, The Camargue, The French Riviera and Provence but she but prefers the 'less touristy' location as a get away but likes knowing that lots of 'action' including night-life is still close-by. Last but not least she discovered and ultimately fell in love with the region and she believes there is no better place to be because other artist friends who introduced her to the area many years ago reside there. She loves and appreciates the people, their spirit and the wine they make!
What makes this property unique
If you are looking for a small rustic but very elegant apartment type house in a very quiet and preserved historic village this is the place for you. It's the perfect place for a romantic get away or for a couple with kids. It is in an amazing area rich in everything vacationers need. Very close to but still far enough away from the many towns, beaches, restaurants bars & tourist attractions to provide solitude in an historic ancient setting amidst the beautiful landscape of Cathar castles and vineyards. Because the house is smaller than some in the area the price has been adjusted accordingly but greater attention to detail including a fireplace, gourmet kitchen, really fast wifi, deluxe duvet and pillow bedding with high count cotton sheets, weekly house keeping, amenities for bath from the local coop, fluffy towels and towel warmer, bar-be-que grill and patio furniture, Provencal linens and hand turned pottery have been provided making this house special.
