Make this your amazing Northern Michigan vacation retreat tucked away on beautiful Lake Michigan on Christmas Cove. This highly desirable area is just north of Northport. 1 bedroom plus loft and 2 bathrooms welcomes up to 7 guests. This home rents weekly Sunday to Sunday only during prime summer months. Memorial and Labor Day weekends require three nights.

Unique round home with two levels. Located on a quiet side street, facing west for great sunsets. Dark night skies for star gazing and shooting stars. There are 39 steps to the beach stepping onto beautiful sandy frontage. Wow does it get any better than this!

Main level bedroom has 1 Queen. Open concept loft upstairs has 1 Queen and a futon. There is a sofa bed for overflow sleeping. HDTV, DVD, CD player. Internet access. Full kitchen with dishwasher. Washer and dryer. Cell service can be intermittent.

Catch falling stars in the dark night zipping across the horizon. Beach chairs and picnic table for lounging while you enjoy the gentle breezes. Gas grill and deck. Views of the Manitou Islands and Fox Islands. Easy drive into the village of Northport. Enjoy summer and fall farmers markets and music in the park in the village of Northport. There are plenty of fun places to dine in town, as well as a brewery, a bowling alley, and live entertainment. Head a little further north to the Leelanau State Park and Grand Traverse Lighthouse. About 45 minutes to Traverse City or the Sleeping Bear Dunes. Your well-mannered pet is welcome. No air conditioning.

I've stayed here many times in the past. It was very clean and tidy. Had everything I needed. Peaceful and quiet. I need to cook, so am always happy to stay where the kitchen is fully equipped. The beach is 34 steps down, but when you get there it's always a WOW moment. I love it there.

The views were stunning, and we were thrilled to witness the northern lights, a comet, and even a halo moon, (which we’ve never seen before)! The lake and fall colors added so much beauty to the experience. It’s a great place to unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of northern Michigan. We’d definitely recommend it for a relaxing getaway.

Perfect weather all week made for lots of time spent strolling the beach, making stone flowers in the sand, collecting fossilized rocks, and watching the beautiful sunsets and moonsets (super moon week). Couldn't believe how calm the lake was and how refreshing to get in the water. The cottage was so relaxing and had everything we needed to make the stay comfortable and enjoyable.

The gas grill needs to be fixed, we did use it and left gas but the gas lines are totally rusted. Other then that our stay at Northern Lights was a wonderful vacation.

Windows and screens are covered in spider webs and landscape debris, grass not cut, and access to beach is treacherous which is not mentioned in description. But home is clean and comfortable.

The weather was very summerish for early October and we had the beach all to ourselves on several occassions. Wonderful walks on the beach down to Cat head point, nice quiet afternoons sitting on the dunes overlooking the big beautiful lake and ever changing sky. A great place to recharge, clear the mind, and truly rest in a little piece of paradise.

The only negative it needed cleaning, Cobwebs on lamps, spiders in corners of all rooms(been there awhile), Most of the utensils and pans needed to be rewashed (i.e.,oil and food on pans,measuring cups,dishes etc. YUCK. The waste can in the kitchen was so gross-(Food in the bottom of it). Don't get me wrong our stay was great the uniqueness of the cottage was great. Just didn't like that I had to clean before we enjoyed tour stay.

Yes we agree dishes should be clean, corner should be vacuumed, lamps should be wiped down. A more thorough cleaning has been done.

Great Location, Challenging Hike to the Beach

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house is older but in beautiful shape. Great view! Well equipped kitchen! Neighbors are close but very quiet. We would have loved if the windows and screens were clean; lots of webs and dead bugs 😕 inside and out. The carpeting is fairly grundgy. Hard surface flooring would be a perfect upgrade. BUT overall such a beautiful comfortable setting. FYI- the hike to the beach is challenging especially when carrying chairs, coolers, kids, dogs, etc. but once you’re there the beach is FABULOUS!

Unique and Beautiful Location

Super unique and cute house. It was super warm inside even despite the high winds at night coming off the lake which was great. The interior had everything needed for a cozy stay, and was very dog friendly. The cleaning service could do a better job. There was dust all over the furniture and under the master bed it looked like it hadn’t been touched in a long time, my dog was obsessed with trying to clean up whatever was under it. Possible the place had sat empty for awhile before we stayed. Overall a great place for the value we paid in late October, with lots to do around the local area during color change. The biggest issue was the cleanliness when we arrived but it wasn’t bothersome enough to put a damper on the trip and we would return again. The outdoors was more overgrown then I’d expect for that area. Beware of ticks if you have a dog and go down to the beach, we found about 20 total on ourselves and our dog over the course of two days in late October from just one walk down to the beach. The stairs to the beach are a bit intense if you are not an able bodied adult as well. The outdoor grill is in rough shape with a couple burners that didn’t look function. We didn’t find out if it was as the propane tank was empty, but wasn’t too big of a deal as we just cooked inside instead. Overall it had a beautiful view of the lake, and if it was summer the beach itself would compensate for any other issues.

Northern Lights Vacation in May

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This property is not well suited for people with knee, hip or back issues or small children. We loved the location of the cottage on Christmas Cove Beach, but didn't realize there was a steep stairway from the cottage through the trees to the dunes with 20+ rustic steps with big stones jutting out on the top 3 steps making footing difficult and treacherous for anyone with physical limitations. The cottage itself was clean and comfortable with beautiful views through the kitchen picture window and living room doorwalls and off the deck outside the living room. We were initially inundated with Mayflies both on the property and on the beach, but they dissipated after a few days so they weren't as annoying. The area of Northport is very lovely with lots of flowering cherry and apple trees the last week of May and blooming trillium along the trails in the parks. We had some delicious food in Northport and took many long walks on the beach enjoying the every changing views of the skyscapes and Lake Michigan. We had contacted the rental agency about a shade that was not in the bedroom window and the stairway from the dunes to the beach that was not setup for use but no one from maintenance got in touch with us during the week to fix these issues.
