About this property
Gorgeous Oceanside Home in Wooded Setting
Sunday to Sunday rental. Spacious, modern, year-round home, by deep water with a pebble beach. Master bedroom suite on the first floor with king bed, Jacuzzi, shower, and sauna. There is a TV there. The dining room, living room, laundry (large capacity washer and dryer), and kitchen are also on the first floor. The living room has floor-to-ceiling windows that go 2 stories that look out on the back woods and ocean, a large TVand a wood-burning fireplace. Upstairs are two wings joined by a sunroom/sitting area with a balcony to the living room. Wing 1 has a bedroom with a queen bed, bath with tub/shower combo, and den/office with a computer monitor. The den looks out onto the water. There is a fold-out single bed (folds into a sofa) in the den. Wing 2 has a bedroom with a queen bed, a bedroom with 2 twins, a bathroom with a seated shower.
The first floor is contiguous and a wheel-chair can enter every room. There are 3 steps into the house. We have reliable cable internet.
Suitable for family reunions, weddings, business groups and large families.
There is a screened-in porch and deck with a gas grill overlooking the ocean. Sturdy stairs take you down to the beach. The downstairs has a ping-pong table and games for rainy-day fun.
This house has cross ventilation in every room and on the rare 90*F day, it can be cooled in 30 minutes by opening skylights and ocean windows as the outside cools. It does not have air conditioning.
Modern gourmet/eat-in kitchen with gas/electric stove, warming drawer, microwave, and dishwasher. The kitchen looks out onto the sunny garden. Pick blueberries for pancakes in the garden during the season. There is service for 12, a picnic set, a food processor, a juicer, a blender, a lobster pot, crackers, and many pots making this perfect for entertaining. The dining room has chairs for 8. There are 4 extra, fold-up chairs in the closet.
The driveway is paved and there is a three-car garage.
Cable, Wi-Fi, flat screen TV (2 total TVs) and DVD player. Local phone, basic cable TV service.
There is a whole house backup generator, towel warmers in 2 bathrooms, and radiant-floor heating.
Three kayaks, one double with rudder, two lake Otters plus PFDs and paddles available. (Use at your own risk.)
The garden is professionally landscaped with native plants, including wild blueberries and ferns.
There is a lawn for play and games. (Look for deer at dawn and dusk, fox, eagles, wild turkeys and raccoons.) On the water, you may see seals and dolphins. In the basement is a ping-pong table, lawn games and other amusements for children and adults., including many books.
Sail up to the house (you will need a dinghy to get to beach), on this pristine shore with edible mussels. Free Island Explorer bus stops right outside the driveway during peak season (consult Downeast Transportation website for schedule). Within walking distance of historic Salisbury Cove and 1.5 miles from Acadia National Park Hulls Cove entrance. Seven minutes by car from Hancock County airport, one hour from Bangor. Pirate's Cove mini-golf down the road as well as Mainley Meats (Bar-B-Que), Udder Delights (deserts and ice cream), and the Trenton Lobster Pound and Bar Harbor Lobster Pounds (set the table, order your lobsters, go pick them up and enjoy on the deck) or eat on their picnic tables.
You can fish in the ocean without a license or get a license and fish on Hamilton Pond which is within walking distance. If you are familiar with kayaks, paddle across the cove to the MDI Biolab and float through the stone arch at high tide, or paddle further around the point and picnic in 'The Ovens' which are shallow waterside caves with pebble beaches, best at low tide.
In a boat, you can sail or motor to docks in Bar Harbor or drive (7 minutes) to town.
The Hulls Cove entrance to Acadia National Park is 2 miles away. Drive there, bike there, or take the bus (you can put your bikes on the front grill of the bus). Ranger programs, hiking on graded paths up the mountain, or biking, or walking on the carriage trails (no cars) are fun things to do. You can swim in a lake with a lifeguard or dare the 'Ledges' and enter Echo Lake by the cliff. The Oceanarium is nearby. There is a lobster hatchery there.
A local, historic church within walking distance is Eden Baptist Church but many other churches are in town.
Kebo Valley golf Club is a historic course in Bar Harbor. Lessons, pro shop are up to date. Other, local golf courses are also close by.
In Ellsworth, a seasonal locomotive takes visitors on a scenic ride in the spring, summer, and fall.
Restaurants for every taste abound from the Chart House, a seaside fish house, to Havana's, a Latin restaurant with a wine list of note, to Sweet Peas Farm Kitchen (pizza), to Nostranos, a private Italian restaurant. Most have outdoor seating.
During July and August, music abounds with the Bar Harbor Music Festival (with live opera) and the Northeast Harbor Chamber series. The repertory theater is good and the local cinema, Reel Pizza, is where the locals hang out.
I can help suggest dining and activities for you including activities for kids. I know caterers and can refer you to a variety of helpers, including additional housekeeping.
It is close to the road but quiet. You'll hear lobster boats in the morning, but the black-out shades will help you sleep late.

About the host
Hosted by Janice Woychik

We have lived in this area for almost 9 years and custom built this home. We plan to come back to this area in retirement. I entertained large parties in this house and raised my son here. I come up during the summer to enjoy the home and check on everything.
Why they chose this property
My husband was recruited to work at the Jackson Laboratory. He loves to kayak and sail and a home on the water was our dream. I enjoy hiking and entertaining.
What makes this property unique
It's on the water! I love to walk into Salisbury Cove and post a letter at its tiny post office. I pick blackberries and blueberries on my property and watch deer, turkey and eagle from the house. An evening kayak is relaxing when you can watch the sun turn the sky orange and purple. During the July 4th festivities, I just take the bus in and don't worry about finding a parking space. Teens love the freedom of taking the bus all over the island.
