Ask a questionAbout Dan and Barbara Turnage
I am retired Custom home builder from Chesapeake Va. but more importantly a lover of mountains and an out door enthusiast! My wife and I decided the mountains of West Virginia because of our love for nature! We moved here in 2008 and have been enjoying it ever since! I spent over 30 plus years building custom dream homes for my clients in the Tidewater area of Va. We are now at the season in our life where we want to experience our dreams come to pass. Our dream is to simply enjoy the beautiful mountains of WV and share it with as many people as we can! We spend our time sharing our love for God's creation with family, friends and guests here in the Canaan valley area of WV! We like to ski (both down hill and x-country), hike, bike, Kayak and go hunting. However; we also just love to relax and take in the amazing sunsets between the mountains in addition to stargaze! On our many hikes to waterfalls and streams our beagle, Bluebell, comes along too. She even treads through the snow along side us in the winter when we go x-country skiing or snow shoeing! Our days are filled entertaining family and friends who have taken time off from their busy lives to visit. We cherish the time we are able spend with them by showing off wild, wonderful WV!
Why Dan and Barbara Turnage chose Dryfork
We chose to have a cozy cabin here because of the amazing views of the mountains and sunsets! We additionally are in love with being able to hear the sounds of nature, view wildlife and just enjoy the fresh air! "Sunset Cabin" is positioned so you can enjoy both the sunrise and the sunset! The location is also close to two ski resorts; Canaan Valley and Timberline. Additionally, it is close to Canaan Valley State park and Blackwater falls state park. These parks offer great hiking trails. the area also offers mountain biking, horseback riding, golfing, rock climbing, or hunting! However; "Sunset Cabin" is also a perfect place to experience the sounds of nature in a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. "Sunset Cabin" is where deep breaths of fresh mountain air are taken in and where many have received the answers to the "why's" and "purpose" of their lives:)..always answering back with praise and gratitude! "Sunset Cabin" is a vacation spot to truly relax in order to be refreshed before heading back to work. We believe watching the sunset and star gazing rejuvenates the soul by giving us strength, peace and balance for the road ahead.
What makes this cabin unique
The cabin boasts of its views of the mountains and a peaceful setting. Most of the activities such as skiing both downhill and x-country are approx. 7-10 miles away. Horseback riding and hiking trails close as well. We encourage people to relax around the real wood burning fireplace inside the cabin or outside by the campfire. Star gazing is prime here in this part of WV! This is due to the fact it has been claimed to be one of the "darkest spots" on the east coast!
