Your own private mountaintop

Our large group enjoyed staying for New Years. The house really is on its own mountaintop, with great views. The bedrooms were comfortable and we enjoyed having both the tv den and the game room with pool table, foosball, and bar. Great views and we really enjoyed the hot tub.

We were very disappointed because when we booked this property, there was a hot tub in the listing. This was the main thing we wanted. When we arrived, the hot tub was out of order. The host said they are removing it for weddings. We were not aware of this until arrival. The view from the house is a million dollar view. So amazing!! However, the dirt/rock driveway is over a mile up the mountain. It needs to be smoothed out because the drive is rough, even for my 4wd SUV. We did see multiple deer. Based on info from the host, we were scared to even be outside due to bear activity. The house itself has so much potential. Certain areas of the house were very nice, but a good bit of the rooms need some TLC. Some of the decor is outdated, and the carpet needs to be cleaned. We did appreciate the hosts responsiveness and recommendations for restaurants in the area.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We’re glad you enjoyed the views — the elevated setting and long approach are what make the panorama so unique and memorable. Regarding the hot tub, we’d like to clarify that it was removed as an amenity prior to your stay and was not listed as available at the time of booking. While some photos from a previous season were still visible, the hot tub itself was no longer included. We regret any confusion this may have caused and have since ensured the listing photos fully reflect the current amenities. We’d also like to clarify a point about the driveway. The drive is gradual and regularly maintained, with some natural bumps typical of a mountain gravel road. Its length — approximately a mile and a half — can take a little getting used to, but it’s the extended approach rather than the surface itself that most guests notice. This long, private drive is what allows the home to sit in such a secluded location with exceptional views that simply wouldn’t be possible otherwise. As noted in the listing, the property is located in a rural mountain environment, where wildlife sightings are part of the experience. We share this information so guests can be aware and enjoy the setting comfortably and safely. Often times bear activity is rare, the information we share is to be bear smart with food outside so guests don't inadvertently attract them. Personally, I love seeing them around as they've never approached me and will run for the woods when they hear a car. We appreciate your comments about the home and are continually making updates and improvements. Thank you as well for recognizing our responsiveness and local recommendations. We appreciate your stay and wish you the best in your future travels.

Served as a great venue, needs a little TLC

The property was as advertised, a little larger in person which was appreciated. The owner/host was very receptive to communication and allowed for early check which was life-saving for our large group arriving at different times. The lawn outside was not mowed when we arrived. There was some rain earlier in the week which made it difficult to have a riding mower address the grade and weeds. We were hoping this could be done before our event, however could not be accommodated. Unfortunately, the primary bedroom shower caused a leak through the ceiling of the first floor in the main foyer, so could not use one of the limited amounts of showers. The host was ready to send contractors, however we simply abstained from using it and all progressed well, just limited time in other showers. Our vendors were able to deliver all items without difficulty and there were almost zero reports of traffic on the long, narrow driveway up the mountain. There were a few little odds/ends that broke due to age, but did not end up effecting our day and enjoyment. It was appreciated that the Airstream was not occupied for privacy. Thank you to the host for their reception to our concerns and real time response. With a little investment in upkeep and renovation/restoration, this property will be one for the ages!

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re so glad to hear you found the home spacious, enjoyed the privacy, and that the layout worked well for your group’s event. We appreciate your kind words about our communication and flexibility with check-in, as we always aim to make our guests’ arrivals as smooth as possible. As with many historic homes, there can occasionally be surprises, and we’re grateful for your understanding when the primary bedroom shower issue arose. While we were ready to send contractors right away, we respect your decision to work around it, and we’ve since scheduled repairs to ensure it’s in perfect order for future guests. Similarly, the lawn is now on a more frequent schedule, and we’ve addressed some of the small “odds and ends” that naturally come with the character of an older property. Our vision is to maintain the unique charm that makes this home so special, while continuing to invest in thoughtful upkeep and restoration. We truly believe this mountain property is already a gem, and with every update, it becomes even more memorable for our guests. Thank you again for choosing our home and for sharing such constructive and gracious feedback — we hope to welcome you back in the future.

Why they chose this property

This location is INSANE. You have an entire mountain to enjoy. It looks remote but is right in the heart of the Asheville area. Nothing like it.

What makes this property unique

Winghaven is a rare combination of privacy, space, and convenience. Set on 12 peaceful mountain acres with panoramic Blue Ridge views, the property feels like a true private retreat while still being just minutes from Asheville, Biltmore, restaurants, breweries, hiking, and area attractions.

The home was designed for guests to spread out comfortably, with 7 bedrooms, multiple king beds, large gathering spaces, a game room with pool table, a chef-ready kitchen, and plenty of room for families, friends, retreats, and special getaways. Guests love the feeling of being tucked away in the mountains without feeling isolated.

What makes Winghaven special is the balance: quiet mornings with mountain views, big shared meals, fun nights together, and easy access to everything Asheville has to offer. It’s spacious, scenic, and peaceful, but still practical for large groups looking for comfort and convenience.
