Great vibe

Loved this property, it is decorated so cute and very comfortable and clean. So close to Joshua tree national park, amazing hiking trails. Very close to great homestyle restaurants and unique shops. The jacuzzi and fire pit were wonderful to relax by after a long day hiking. Would definitely recommend this property.

Peaceful Getaway

This property is amazing. The photos on the listing don’t do justice to how well designed and welcoming this property is. My girlfriend and I had an incredible time playing games in the open living area with tons of natural light, stargazing from the hot tub, and cooking in the spacious kitchen. We could have spent the whole trip staying indoors and it would have felt complete. On top of all that, Katelyn is an amazing host and was very responsive to all of my questions. I would 100% stay here again without hesitation.

Dangerous Spider Infestation

A few minutes after we arrived, we walked around the backyard and discovered a large (~2in) black widow spider by the sliding door. Knowing the danger this presents to us and our dog, we contacted the host to ask them to hire an exterminator service to spray the property. They answered a few hours later, stating that "this is just part of life in the desert" and that they would not have the property sprayed. That evening, we found a much larger (~4in) wolf spider in our bedroom. This forced us to sleep on the couch that night and leave the next day, even though our checkout date was not until the day after that. Fortunately, neither of us nor our dog ended up being bit, but it is only a matter of time before someone ends up hospitalized from this infestation.

I'm sorry you were unhappy with your stay! You didn't mention a spider indoors to me during your stay, only that you saw one outside. As I said in my message, it's not really possible to exterminate the outdoors, and would be dangerous to the wildlife. I did offer to send someone out to kill the spider. (Didn't receive a response) Personally I don't feel that two spiders, one of them outdoors, constitutes an infestation. We haven't had any other guests mention an issue. While I think it is unlikely the spiders were black widows, yes, us humans share the desert wirth many critters..Not just spiders, but snakes, coyotes, bobcats, chipmunks, eagles, hawks, roadrunners, and more are all part of the habitat in Joshua tree, they were actually there first! Many of our guests come to the area specifically to enjoy the natural beauty and wildlife. Maybe the desert is not the right vacation spot for you! For full disclosure, I am copying and pasting our entire communication below: Joseph Plazekhi: Katelyn! we have arrived and love the place :) I am looking for a place to plug in my car - any regular wall outlet will do. I see the garage is locked, where should I plug in?10:25 PM May 10, 2024 Joseph PlazekI: did find a place to plug in the car last night, so no problem there anymore.however, last night when we stepped outside to see the backyard we were greeted by a very large black widow spider (I can send pics if you like). Would you be able to to call a service to spray/treat the property for this today? so that we can enjoy the outdoor spaces during our time here 7:32 AM Kateyn Michele: Good morning! Glad you found a place for the car. Im sorry about the spider! Hmm let me ask my husband about that! Will get back to you shortly. How is everything else? Please lmk if you have any questions. Enjoy your day!10:07 AM Kateyn Michele And yes please send pics of spider if you don't mind :)10:15 AM Joseph Plazekyes, do you have an email or cell that I can send the pics to? it doesn't give me an option in this chat 10:43 AM Katelyn Michele: Hi again, I talked to my husband and asked a couple of our neighbors (as we are fairly new to the desert) and was told exterminating the backyard isn't feasible, that bugs and other critters outdoors are just part of desert life & there's a good chance of encountering them at the national park or wherever else you go. And spraying will poison the food chain and alter ecosystem. There's been some baby chipmunks and birds around, and we do also allow dogs on our property, so wouldn't want to harm them with toxic chemicals! We do exterminate inside the home on a regular basis. I stayed at the house for several days earlier in the week, and didn't have any issues with spiders or any other bugs, so I think you should be ok. (Wear closed toed shoes) However, if the black widow is still there, happy to send someone out to kill/remove it, check around for others and spread around/spray diatomaceous earth & essential oils which help deter bugs & spiders! Let me know what you think! Don't worry about sending the pics. Thanks, Katelyn
