The Chester family, five young children and their mom, came to Maine 40 years ago from suburban New Jersey and rented the house now known as the Shore Path Cottage for the summer. The mom, Roberta, was sufficiently smitten with the house and the view and the area and Acadia National Park and Maine folks to pack up the kids and move here permanently when the house came up for sale. Cold winters, and a new cultural experience notwithstanding (She often felt, literally, like a babe in the woods), there were never any regrets because it was simply so beautiful in every season. The kids grew up mastering winter and summer sports so that two of the daughters, Melinda and Lisabeth, are able to offer our guests the valuable, informed information from years of their experience which they need to make their stay most memorable and enjoyable. Four years ago, the garage that was built in 1880 came down and the Bird's Nest went up. Roberta, whose nickname is 'Bird' thought that would be a good name . Though it is available as a long terms rental, it is Bird's nest in December and January. We feel , and somewhat objectively, that our location on the ocean and on a quiet residential street in town is as good as it gets in Bar Harbor. in keeping with the tasteful quality of the decor of the main house, the Birds Net is furnished beautifully and lovingly. Designed by Roc Caivano, the area's premier architect, with the assistance of Lisabeth Chester Oxman, also an architect, you will enjoy the cathedral ceiling and the many windows. The Bird's Nest was originally our family residence and now we enjoy the pleasure of sharing it with our guests.
