About this property
Quietside Quarterdeck: Dual King Wings, Bunk Room, Fire Patio & Pet-Friendly
Quietside Quarterdeck is spread across two thoughtfully separated wings, giving multi-generational families and groups the breathing room they need while keeping the shared spaces at the heart of the home. The main floor is bright and open, designed for gathering, shared meals, and soaking up the village atmosphere through large windows.
The interior strikes a balance between character and comfort with maritime antiques and curated nautical details that sit alongside quality finishes that make the home as functional as it is memorable. Head downstairs and the atmosphere shifts entirely, with the Below Deck entertainment level transporting you into the hull of a classic tall ship, mermaid figureheads and all.
LIVING AND ENTERTAINING The main living area provides a stylish and comfortable space to relax, framed by massive timber beams and large windows that bring in the village light. It is a great spot to hang out, relax and plan the day's hike over coffee.
For a change of pace, the Below Deck lounge gives you a second living area for movie nights or gaming, complete with a nautical theme that kids and adults alike will love! The upper level is equipped with a 50” Smart TV, while Below Desk features a 65” Smart TV with surround sound. There is free Wi-Fi for streaming, so everyone has their own space to unwind.
KITCHEN AND DINING The full sized, chef ready kitchen comes exceptionally well provisioned with all the appliances and utensils to allow for effortless meal preparation. Stocked with essential spices, oils, quality cookware and a dedicated drip coffee setup, the space is ready for everything from quick trail breakfasts to delicious Maine seafood feasts.
The main interior dining table seats six comfortably, as well as bar seating in the kitchen and the secondary dining area in the Below Deck lounge. This flexible setup is perfect for shared family dinners, a casual lobster spread, or a boardgame night after a day exploring Acadia.
BEDROOMS AND BATHROOM The bedrooms are spread across the different wings of the home to give everyone a sense of privacy. The primary suite on the main floor features rustic beams and a king bed, while the second guest room also offers a king bed. The third bedroom is a dedicated bunk room with a twin over full and a twin over twin setup along with a 32" TV with Roku, making it a practical choice for children.
There are two full bathrooms on the main level and a convenient half bath located in the lower ship themed wing. Each bathroom is stocked with fresh towels and essential amenities like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash so you don’t have to bring a thing.
A washer and dryer are also available in the home, making it easy to pack light and stay as long as you like.
OUTDOOR SPACES The private rear patio is a tucked away retreat from the village buzz, featuring a gas grill and alfresco seating for outdoor meals. It is an intimate space where you can relax and unwind, which makes it all the more peaceful and private after a day on the trails.
Off the primary bedroom, a small private balcony provides a quiet vantage point for a morning coffee before the village wakes up, and for families, the local school playground and ball fields are directly across the street giving you a handy bonus for kids who need to burn off some energy before dinner.
ATTENTION OTHER THINGS TO NOTE!
This is a historic village home that offers an authentic local experience. It is important to note that the property features window AC units in the bedrooms only, while the common areas rely on fans and natural cross breezes to stay cool.
Because the home is located in the center of a working fishing village, guests will hear the natural sounds of local life and traffic. The layout involves multiple levels and several sets of internal stairs, which should be a consideration for guests with limited mobility. To maintain the historic lower level, we provide and run dehumidifiers to keep the air fresh and comfortable.
NEIGHBORHOOD HIGHLIGHTS
Southwest Harbor is the hidden gem of Mount Desert Island — a working fishing village with genuine local character that the more touristy Bar Harbor side simply cannot replicate. This is the Quiet Side at its best, where the harbor smells like salt and fresh catch, the cafes are run by locals, and the pace of life slows down the moment you arrive.
From the front door, the waterfront, Clark Point Cafe, local boutiques and harbor side restaurants are all just a short stroll away, making this one of the most walkable locations on the entire island.
Head in one direction and you reach the town pier and the working waterfront, head the other way and you'll find the Coast Guard base and a 9-hole golf course along with local museums and galleries, including a gallery right next door, dotted along the way. For families, the local school playground and ball fields are directly across the street.
If you’d like to explore further, the options are endless. The Beech Mountain Trailhead is just 14 minutes away with panoramic fire tower views across the Quiet Side. For a stunning ocean view at ground level, the Seawall in Acadia National Park is an 8-minute drive with a naturally occurring rock formation, direct ocean views and easy coastal walking paths. Echo Lake Beach, the best freshwater swimming spot on the island, is also just 8 minutes away, while the iconic Bass Harbor Head Light is a 10-minute drive down the coast.
If you’d like to venture to the busier side of the island, Bar Harbor and the Cadillac Mountain entrance are around 25 minutes away which is close enough for a day trip yet far enough to feel like a world away when you return.
