About this property

Perfect Location For Everything Cool About This Great City!

Beautiful 1932 art-deco home, 1420 sq ft, two bedrooms with double/queen beds (third is my home-office, currently rather cluttered and not useful to guests), one [pretty spectacular] bathroom, spacious kitchen, living room, and dining room, wood floors throughout. Central A/C and heat, whole-house attic fan (nice in spring and fall, leave some windows open). Nice backyard is not fenced, quiet street **Great neighborhood that's close to everything** from state capitol downtown (22 blocks straight down funky South Congress Ave.) to the airport (15 min) and Formula 1 track (Circuit of the Americas, pleasant drive). Numerous famous restaurants and 24-hr places in walking distance -- for SXSW or ACL **could not be sweeter**, I know from experience living here since 1990! It could comfortably take two couples, more if you can sleep on cots, couch, etc. The house is usually available for short or long stays except March through May, when it is usually available only for stays of less than a week. I'm an ornithologist, work in Amazonian Brazil a lot, house is full of books and stuff related to that, please just leave it where it sits, thanks! Hablo español y falo português ;-)

Great Location

We stayed here for the F1 race at COTA and this was a great location for seeing the sights of Austin and getting to the track! Would definitely recommend and Bret is a clear communicator and gracious home owner!

Best Location

Everything you might possibly want including a full kitchen, great ac & all tv options (especially if you bring your own hdmi & laptop). Soft bed with really nice linens, all nestled in the most exciting location in Austin! Food, shopping, bars & live music all within easy walking distance of this interesting property. We stayed two months and give the property and the host 5 stars.

Homey stay close to everything

Lovely historic home. Great location, so easy to get around by car and on foot. Nice outdoor space. There were four of us in Austin for eclipse viewing, and we got an extra treat listening and watching for birds in the front and back yard.

Best House in Austin!

A sweet spot

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this sweet little house. It was comfortable and clean, lots of neat things to look at, and in a great location, right around the corner from shops and restaurants. Great place to stay!1)

The house is big enough for more people but I stayed there alone for 7 weeks. There are two bedrooms a nice bathroom with tub and shower, a nice one. The kitchen is large and other than the microwave which needs to be updated, everything was provided and worked well. Bret is a marvelous person and will take of anything you need.

Great location, cute house

We stayed at this property for 2.5 months and had a great time. It was the perfect size for 2 people and 2 cats. It has one large bathroom, kitchen, 2 usable bedrooms, a sitting room, and a front deck. The home is in a fantastic location with a lot to do within walking distance. It’s about a 40 min walk to downtown. Bret was a good host and left us a helpful video with information about the property. He was always available via text for any issues that came up. Would highly recommend.

Cluttered home disguised as a vacation rental.

Not a good fit for long term. Extremely cluttered no place to put personal items due to excess clutter , had to clean it before being comfortable there. No coffee pot, kettle, vacuum cleaner, dust pans, stained pillows. Had to buy our own which we left as well as a coffee pot. Not set up as a vacation rental. It was just a cluttered home that was in desperate need of a good cleaning. Owner deducted from our damage deposit for damage preexisting ( should not be allowed to take money without proof.) and asked us to clean up after paying guests. We left the property cleaner than when we arrived. If you are looking for a nice long term vacation rental, this is not it.!! Only good thing was location.

The real Austin

We had the best time in Austin. A whole house for ourselves, at such a splendid location. A safe and leafy neighborhood. A lot of restaurants and shops are at walking distance. The air conditioning kept us at the perfect temperature. Bret was very helpful and easygoing, we love him!

Most rentals are investment properties with landlords. Bret hosted us in his home graciously and unobtrusively. We were grateful to get through a couple months of extreme heat in such a comfortable home.

Wonderful stay near SoCo

Had a wonderful 2 month stay at Bret’s place. Bret is an extremely responsive and helpful host, and always made sure we had what we needed. House is literally a block from S Congress street, but far enough away where it is a quiet peaceful neighborhood.

My finding Brett’s home and booking was done expeditiously.....basically overnight. I am more of a planner, usually, and was quite stressed about the whole process. Brett was always quick to respond, helpful, patient and kind. He was amazing to work with. Made a very stressful time in my life very manageable. Great location close to Congress!

My wife and I, along with our newborn and our nanny, stayed here for two nights while we stayed in Austin for ACL. We could not have asked for a better location. Since we were so close to Congress, we were even able to rent some nearby scooters in order to quickly make it to ACL. Uber eats was also convenient since they did not have to travel far to drop off food. We are not sure but it seems that there is another rental property in the back of this home, which would be nice if you were traveling with a large group and need more room. We enjoyed the bird books and also enjoyed the TV setup with AppleTV & Roku. Also, the owner was very accessible during our stay and responded to us quickly. We would stay here again if we’re in town for a couple of days.

Why they chose this property

Quiet, yet absolutely perfect location for everything I truly love about Austin, with easy access to the airport, Zilker Park and Barton Springs, dozens of awesome restaurants, and safety -- I travel A LOT and I have never had a break-in attempt, probably because the house is "exposed" to the streets and has neighbors very close by.

What makes this property unique

Location, location, location. And super-comfy, amazingly quiet little house, gets you feeling good as soon as you walk in.
