About this property
Washington Family Home - National Treasure, Est 1750 located at 107 S Lee Street
Oldest functioning house in Old Town dating back to 1750. Surveyed and purchased by our founding father, George Washington on behalf of his beloved, older half-brother, Lawrence. Walk and live in the footsteps of authentic American history. Hulu rented the place in summer of 2023 to serve as an authentic backdrop for one of its interviews on American history.
Situated as the first home from South Lee and King Street, which is the true heart of Old Town. A lovely home with an outdoor courtyard, perfect for gathering guests around two fire pits.
There is a full kitchen, dining room, family room, study, and one bedroom with queen-sized bed.
The property was selected by Hulu as a filming location for a series on American History. One of the most unique properties in America filled with patriotism. This is NOT a replica...it is the original Washington Family home.

Wonderful property and location, especially for Garden Week! Historic elements are charming. Well-equipped to handle serious cooking and a long term stay. Host was very responsive and accommodating. Will book again if I'm back in Alexandria!
This house is truly magical, nestled right in the heart of Old Town. You could not ask for a better location—steps from the best restaurants and historic landmarks, yet tucked inside one of the most charming historic homes in America. Staying here felt like stepping back in time, while still enjoying every modern comfort. Elegant, cozy, and impeccably situated—an absolutely perfect stay.
We had the best time at this beautiful and historic place. The Terrace outside was beautiful and we roasted marshmallows in the fire pit. We took many tours ate at Gatsby‘s. Had ice cream at Pops walk down to the water spectacular overall but I just was glad I was there with my daughter cause I really don’t think I could’ve opened that door! I just would’ve Needed an extra set of hands but otherwise place was clean beautiful kitchen loved everything about it. Thank you for sharing.
Property was just as described. It was incredible and a treat to stay and learn about such a beautiful piece of history. Location was convenient and walkable to everything in Old Town.
This place is really perfect ..To start, the location could not be more ideal 1/4 block off of king street. The home itself is spotless with well appointed furniture and bedding. The outside area is the best spot in town for a meeting or to have a cocktail in the evening. The real deal here is the historical background of the house itself. If you are a history buff this is the only place to stay.
This was our second time staying at 107 S. Lee. Thomas could not have been more welcoming and helpful! The weather was supposed to be cold and snowy. He made sure the home was warmed up, provided firewood and prepared the outside with rock salt. This historic home is cared for with passion and love. The perfect place to share happy times with the ones you love. Sincerely
This hit all points for my work remote week / vacation weekend. Home is in a perfect location and has great history with all the old world charm and just enough modern updates. Loved it.
Our stay at 1750 Washington Family National Treasure was an unforgettable experience! The rich history and fantastic location right off King St made it truly special. Walking through the home felt like stepping back in time, yet it had all the modern comforts we needed. Thomas, our host, was incredibly friendly and accommodating, ensuring we were warm and comfortable with extra heaters (it was quite cold outside during a few days of our stay). The house was well-equipped, making our stay seamless and enjoyable. If you appreciate historic charm with great hospitality, this is the perfect getaway. Highly recommend!

Thank you, Jason. It is a pretty magical place and an honor to share it with you all. You were very lovely guests.
From the moment I booked the Washington Family home our excitement for the opportunity began to build. Communication and coordination were excellent. Our host provided the feeling of being warmly welcomed and exceptionally taken care of. The feeling of its history is all around you while having subtle conveniences tucked into place. You will want for nothing except to stay longer and return again. Sincerely, Cynthia
Our stay at this beautiful 1700s home in the heart of Old Town was unforgettable! The house seamlessly blends colonial charm with modern comforts to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The location is unbeatable—steps from shops, great restaurants and pubs, and the waterfront—making it the perfect home base for exploring Old Town. Inside, the home is both cozy and spacious, with beautifully restored details that transport you to another era. Thoughtful amenities, including a fully equipped kitchen with a Nespresso machine made our stay even more enjoyable. The host was incredibly welcoming and provided excellent local recommendations. Whether for a weekend getaway or a longer stay, this home is an ideal choice. We’re already planning our next visit!Highly recommend to anyone visiting the area!
First of all, staying in a historic home was really neat! The location was great; walk out the door and walk a block, and you're in Old Town Alexandria, with tons of restaurants/shops/touristy things to visit. The only slight downside was parking- which is going to be an issue anywhere in this area, not specific to this house. We ended up parking at the Market Street Garage on Fairfax St in the evenings and walking to the house. The home was well modernized (wifi, bathrooms, kitchen appliances) while still retaining its historic charm. Would love to stay here again sometime!
We had the most incredible stay at this historic home in Alexandria! Out of all the vrbos ive stayed at in my life- this is hands down the coolest by far. Originally purchased by George Washington in 1750, it has original floors, beams and walls but beautifully restored with thoughtful modern conveniences. It was fun and romantic to hang out in the well appointed courtyard at night. There is so many great places and space to hang out in the house as well. Huge shower, comfy bed, sexy decor. I loved it so much I didn't want to leave and literally asked the owner if we could stay a couple more days. The owner went far out of his way to ensure our comfort. We really appreciate the house, the owner, and the obvious passion he has for the house. Huge thank you!If you're looking for a place in Alexandria or DC, THIS is the place.

Stayed at the property on two separate occasions but then proffered two one star reviews on a separate occasions. Why would you come back to stay again?
Most unfortunate. We are a small family owned business that dedicated three years to restoring a piece of American history.
About the host
Hosted by Thomas
As a veteran, I renovated this property to restore a part of American history. It is located on the oldest functioning property in Old Town, which dates back to 1750. The original owner of the property was Lawrence Washington, George Washington's half brother. George Washington surveyed and purchased the property for Lawrence. Truly, you will be walking in the unique footsteps of pre-revolutionary American heros. Truly, you will be walking in the unique footsteps of pre-revolutionary American heros.
Why they chose this property
Location: At this location, you would be 50 feet from the intersection of King and Lee Street, which is the most popular location of all the best restaurants in Old Town, all of which have outdoor seating. Additionally you would be just a block and a half from the Potomac and the park that runs along the water (with ferry access) all the way to DC. You simply cannot beat this location.
Parking: There is on-street paid parking from Monday through Saturday, and street parking is always free on Sundays and federal Holidays. Unpaid parking is available 150 feet (west) in the Burke and Herbert parking lot after 5pm on weekdays and after 1pm on Saturdays. You also have the option to park at the covered garage immediately across the street between Lee and Union Street (115 S Union Street) for $15 per day and $10 overnight (sign details below). There are 3 other lots all in about a 1.5 block radius as well with similar rates.
Metro/Trolley Service: A benefit of the location is that the King Street Trolley is a free shuttle that runs to the metro every 15 minutes. It starts one block from the house (City Hall/Market Square) and ends at the King Street Old Town Metrorail station. It runs from 11am to 11pm, seven days a week, including holidays.
What makes this property unique
This is the oldest functioning property in Old Town, which is the closest property to the intersection of King and Lee Street. Truly the heart of one of the most iconic small towns and the most beautiful streets in America.
