I highly recommend this cottage. I have stayed here several times over the last few years. It has an absolute beautiful view of the lake and the inside of the cottage is both beautiful and comfortable. Great for a family get-away.
Very nice little house, clean rooms, comfortable beds, and a very nice part of the lake. We stayed in mid October And there wasn’t very many people on the lake at that time.Looking forward to renting it again one day.
Very comfortable and fitting place to spend a relaxing time on the lake. Easy access to dock that is well equipped for fishing. Caught at least one fish of every kind in the lake. The best of three other places we have rented on Hyco Lake so we will definitely plan to return.
This was just about the best trip we have ever had. The view is absolutely beautiful. Every morning we got up walked down to the boat dock and just enjoyed the peace and quiet and relaxation
The property was great and was in a quiet part of the lake. The boat house provided all the amenities you could ask for. My family enjoyed swimming, fishing and the sunsets. If you wanted a break from the lake the screened in porch was great for relaxing and of course the late night smores at the fire pit. Will definitely go back again.
Great view of lake, clean and comfortable beds. We used the gas grill to cook the steaks. Friendly hosts. Parking the boat trailer can be a little challenging. We were there fishing for bass. We had a very good trip. I plan to go back again.
Overall a solid B. House was clean. Good Value. Fire pit area was awesome but the cold drove us inside. Only negative was the “kids” room. It was all adults so having to walk through one bedroom to get to another was not so good. Anyway, we enjoyed our stay.
Our group of 7 plus one furry friend thoroughly enjoyed our week here. The fishing was wonderful-- I think the boys are now "hooked"! We all enjoyed kayaking, playing cards on the screened porch and the firepit. The bed was more comfortable than my own! Hyco is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life!

Wonderful Getaway
What a great location on the lake! Beautiful view! We really enjoyed the screened porch, table, rocking chair and swing! Couldn't ask for much more! It was so nice on the dock also as it provided shade during our hot days by the water! The owners were very responsive and accomodating! Our vacation was also made enjoyable with the use of the owner's floats during the 90 degree days! Very relaxing! If you have a boat, the property location is very convenent to the marina. Thanks for sharing your home!
We thoroughly enjoyed our Thanksgiving weekend stay at Hyco Lake cottage. The house was cute, very comfortable, and worked out perfect for our family of 5 (including 3 teens and a puppy). We loved the wood burning fireplace and the porch swing in the screened in porch. But we especially loved the amazing views of the lake. We were treated to a couple beautiful sunsets. The boat launch was close and it was very convenient to dock our boat at the boat house. We enjoyed hanging out here as well and doing some fishing. Don was very easy to communicate with. We're hoping to make it down to Hyco Lake again sometime and would definitely stay here again!
My husband and I rented this house for our 28 yr. Anniversary Vacation. We really enjoyed it. The screened in porch was awesome for eating breakfast or just to watch the sun set. We loved the convenience of the boat dock. We was able to dock our boat. It was easy access to go out everyday fishing. The chairs were comfortable and we enjoyed fishing from the dock too. The house was clean and had everything we needed. We brought some of our things with us and there was plenty of counter space. The spacious refrigerator was nice too. Being cut off from social media for a week was relaxing too. We was able to text some but no other service. The only complaint we had was we would have loved to have a TV in the master bedroom. I like to fall asleep to TV and my husband like to watch the news if he wakes up early. Otherwise it was a perfect house for us and we are already planning another trip back down in the spring and bring our boys and granddaughter. Thank you for opening your home up for people to enjoy this Beautiful lake.

Thank you for the nice review . Were glad you had a great time !
My family has been vacationing at various lakes at least bi-annually, for over 25 years and own property at SML. This rental is currently my favorite. The home is well appointed, clean, comfortable, and the grounds appear to be professionally maintained.
The dock/dock house is well stocked and the kayaks were in excellent condition. We brought our own, but didn't even unload it from the car.
The fishing was superb, even during this heat! The water at the end of the dock is deep. Setting our lines around 7'-8' deep rewarded us with many catfish, large mouth bass, and surprisingly large blue gill. There is very minimal boat traffic. The diving board was a huge plus for my grandson.
I read a previous review that complained about having to supply their own linens/towels. This is a lake house, not a 5 star resort, and the very reasonable pricing reflects this. Personally, I prefer to bring my own. The listing clearly states linens/towels are not provided.
Overall, I am so very pleased with my stay. Don responds quickly and answered ll my questions. Lovely place.

Liked: Cleanliness, location
Off-Grid
I feel like they changed the listing after I had booked the home (8-9 months prior) because I never would have booked a home with no wifi, cell service, linens or towels - but I cannot prove this.
Home is perfect if you want to be off grid and have a relaxing setting. It did not feel welcoming at all, the amount of rules and length of the agreement was longer than a multi-million dollar sponsorship. It felt like they did not really want us in their house so I am not sure why they rent it out.
Only one key, which is inconvenient when you have multiple people staying there. Very little ammitities (TP, hand soap) There was a snake in the hallway, luckily I had one brave person in the house to catch it. Had like 400 TV channels, so I feel like they should invest that money into internet instead, seems more logical since you can stream TV/Movies.
Communicated with owner about lack of linens and towels when I received the contract a week before check-in, they were quick to respond but very short. They did offer to "rent" me the items I needed, but I could buy them for less. And honestly, I knew they were likely going to rent me items that past renters had to buy so it was very off-putting. We just threw away what wouldn't fit in our luggage upon leaving, as opposed to leaving it.
All in all, great view, very relaxing and off-grid, if that is what you are looking for. It just did not fit our needs.I rent around 10 homes a year and have never experienced anything like this.

Couldn’t be Happier!
Relaxing Hyco Lake Retreat is not just “relaxing” it’s full of fun! We had some of the best times of our lives in this house!
All rooms have water views! All of them!! That’s the 3 bedrooms and the living room. The screened porch is the best we’ve ever seen, it’s perfectly furnished and has a rocking chair and swing. The furniture in the living room seems brand new! It probably is! and there’s a rocking chair too in front of TV. The master bedroom opens up onto its own balcony with two chairs.
There was a pergola for parking our car in the shade right next to the house entrance! How convenient and pampering is that?!! There were different mushroom types growing around it too!
The dock was the highlight of the trip for us. This is one of the most beautiful docks we’ve ever seen and by far the most comfortable and equipped! It’s huge and had a covered part that always offered shade during the day. During the night it was perfectly lit! We fished all day and night. There was yet another swing and a huge table on the covered part of the dock as well as a storage room with a fridge which Angela and Don were kind enough to allow us to use. We kept our fishing gear in it over night and used the fridge as needed.
We caught Crappie on worms and plastic skirts, tons of Catfish (channel and blue) 1.5 to 5 lbs. We even caught a 4 lbs. Catfish on a Crappie plastic lure from right under the dock! We caught so much fish we lost count! The water was like 12” deep at the end of the dock!! And the views of the massive body of water all the way to the bridge surrounded by the trees were breath taking! We had a great, great time!
We can’t thank you enough Angela and Don for sharing your beautiful house with us and for all the fishing talks that we had. Special thanks for allowing us to use the boathouse storage and for making this such an unforgettable trip. Can’t wait for our next one!

A work in progress... (plus needs better cleaning service)
Things we liked: Lake, dock, fishing, swimming, diving board!, fire pit, kitchen, deck, remodeled parts of the home
Things we disliked:
VERY dirty, odd floorplan, un-remodeled rooms, no WIFI, no bedsheets or towels?
I'll be honest... our first impression of the house wasn't great. Externally, the house is pretty beat up. It's dirty and heavily covered in spiderwebs and bugs and the front yard is a mess. The back screen porch is worn and dirty and several screens are broken. Internally, the house is partly remodeled. The kitchen was nice with new appliances, and the living room, main bathroom and one bedroom are recently updated. The other two bedrooms and bathroom are a different story. The carpet is very old and dirty and the floorplan is bizarre (you have to walk through one bedroom to get to what's supposed to be the master suite).
As we typically do when we arrive at a rental house, we began to wipe down the key areas with Clorox wipes. It was extremely dirty (I’m talking BLACKNESS on the Clorox wipes). The refrigerator, although brand new, was a mess on the inside with remnants of prior spills on the shelves. I happened to open the oven and there were two cooked pork chops sitting on a broiling pan from the previous occupants. It was as if it had not been cleaned.
The first morning, I was up early and walked down to the dock, only to find it completely infested with annoying Mayflies (obviously not the owner’s fault). I cleaned them all off with a broom and we got three good days on the dock before they came back with a vengeance. That said, the dock was GREAT! We caught some bass and catfish and tons of blue gill. The kids loved the diving board and swam all the way to the bridge on tubes.
At the end of the day, we made the best of it and it turned out to be a decent vacation. But there is a LOT of untapped potential in this property that made our stay less enjoyable than it could have been. My advice to the property owners would be (most importantly), hire a GOOD cleaning service and hold them accountable for deep cleaning the home between renters. It’s a simple thing to do and it speaks to the pride in ownership as a property owner. I’d also recommend finishing off the last two bedrooms and bathroom (new carpet or laminate wood floor and some paint will make a huge difference). Lastly, you HAVE to add WiFi (it’s one thing to not supply WiFi if there is solid 4G service in the area, but people want to have connectivity these days).

Thanks for the recommendations we will take those things into consideration . Our listing states we do not supply linens or have WiFi . Many renters including ourselves love unplugging while on vacation so we haven’t really considered WiFi . As for the Mayflies you are right we have no way to control them or predict when they will arrive .
Thanks for your stay,
Angela and Don

We have had many fun weekends at our lake home. We have 4 grown kids and a teen grandchild. We stay very busy during the week and always look forward to any time to unwind on the lake front home with family. Secluded area of Semora NC makes for some low key special family memories.
Why they chose this property
We chose this location because of the relaxing environment and great fishing and swimming.
What makes this property unique
We love coffee on the screened porch in the mornings. And the short walk to the dock for great fishing and swimming. Low key atmosphere and family times outdoors.
