About this property

Summerscales - A Beautiful Newly Built House on Bald Mountain Lake

Stay in a brand new, well-equipped home on a secluded mountain lake while enjoying all the benefits of a resort on your doorstep. Built in 2023, Summerscales is nestled on small private Bald Mountain Lake, but within the Rumbling Bald Resort. Still fully usable after hurricane Helene, you can enjoy swimming and other water sports right from our dock.

A unique home with plenty of custom features and a light, airy floor plan, Summerscales isn't just another Airbnb; it was designed and built with care as a home away from home. Views from every room of the house look east across the lake towards Youngs Mountain. Go for a swim, take one of the paddle boards or boats out, take a walk, or have a nap on the porch.

All resort amenities are 15 minutes on foot or 2 minutes by car. The resort has two 18-hole golf courses, mini golf, golf cart rentals, indoor and outdoor pools, pickle ball courts, lighted tennis courts, basketball court, spa, a playground, a fitness room and trail and a bar and two restaurants.

THE HOUSE
Open the front door of the home and you will enter the foyer and immediately notice the beams lining the ceiling throughout the main level. To the right, the main living room's vaulted ceiling with exposed beams and two-story fireplace with gas logs catches the eye, as does the view of the lake and mountains from the windows. To the left, the chef's kitchen features a large reclaimed wood kitchen island and a dining area with views of the lake and mountains. Glass doors provide access to the back deck and side screened porch. One side of the porch houses another dining area and the other a large comfortable seating area. A convenient powder room is located next to the front door.

A quick climb up the cable rail staircase takes you to the landing overlooking the living room. Here there is a double daybed and chest of drawers. Down the hall is the master bathroom with vaulted ceiling that offers a double vanity, a rain shower and a freestanding tub in front of the lake view window. Further down the hallway, the master bedroom with vaulted ceiling and exposed beams offers a king size four poster bed, spacious closet, chair and storage chest.

The lower level is reached by taking the stairs down from the main level. Nine-foot ceilings, large windows and tall doors give this level an open feel. On the lower level you will find the “Fish Room” offering two twin beds and storage lockers. Next, the “Green Room” offers a queen-size bed, closet and chest of drawers for storage. These rooms share a large bathroom offering a tub and shower combination. At the other end of the hall is the "Map Room". This is the last bedroom which also serves as a recreation room. It offers a queen-size Murphy bed, sofa, TV, game table and access to a second rear deck with seating and storage for floats and stairs to the patio and dock. The map room has an en-suite shower room, a large cupboard and chest of drawers for storage. There is also a foldable double mattress stored in the closed which can be used in any room of the house for a 10th sleeper. Also on the lower level is a fully equipped laundry room.

Amenities include: Access to Rumbling Bald Resort, 2-story fireplace with gas logs, chef's kitchen, gas grill, board game table with many games, horseshoe pit, corn hole, 2 playing boards paddle, 2 kayaks, various floats and noodles, outdoor dining table and chairs, high chair, toy box, books for children and adults, pack and play, lake towels, blow dryers, soap, shampoo and conditioner, parking for up to 8 cars.

The entire house is available for use with the exception of the storage shed, utility spaces and locked storage areas.

HURRICANE HELENE UPDATE

Our area was unexpectedly hit by Hurricane Helene in September of 2024. Fortunately, Summerscales sustained only minor damage and we have already made repairs. The debris that washed into Bald Mountain Lake from the mountains has been removed, the water has cleared and been tested and approved for swimming and water sports. Almost all regular resort amenities are available. In addition, the surrounding community provides a number of high quality restaurants, shops and outdoor activities.

The main limits on the area include the inaccessibility of neighboring Lake Lure for swimming and water sports as removal of debris is ongoing. As well, Chimney Rock Village is under construction after suffering severe hurricane damage. While Asheville, a common day trip destination, also sustained hurricane damage to the River Arts District and Biltmore Village, many art studios still remain. There is still a lot of art of see in Asheville, the downtown area is intact and thriving with lots of art, bars and restaurants, and the Biltmore House and Grove Park Inn are still welcoming visitors.

SECURITY
-Families with young children should supervise them closely around the property.Stairs, large terraces, the waterfront, boats, etc. pose dangers to young people (and drunk adults).
-Guests are also responsible for following Bearwise recommendations for bear country.
-For your safety and security, Ring cameras operate in the parking area and in front of the front door.

PARKING
Four designated parking spaces are available in front of the shed near the road. Two additional cars can park perpendicular to these cars. Additional cars can park in the driveway. Spaces are also available in the pull-off just above the front of the house. Additional parking may be available in front of the hangar.

FISHING
A fishing license is not required to fish on Bald Mountain Lake but do bring your own fishing equipment.

Summerscales was Extraordinary!

Our entire experience with Rob & Caprice from initial booking to pre-trip (including hurricane) communication, to our family’s stay at Summerscales was one of the best family experiences we’ve had over 25 years of family vacationing. Their home and location is beautiful and the wonderful amenities they provided were top notch! We can’t wait to return for our annual family vacation next year and for years to come!

Peaceful mountain getaway!

Summerscales was the perfect getaway for our family. Everything was so well thought out for a comfortable and relaxing stay away from home. There were more than enough beds and the mattresses were incredibly comfortable. The kitchen was more than adequately, equipped for cooking and serving meals for our group of nine. The screened in porch was everything from enjoying our morning, coffee, watching the sun come up over the mountains, yoga, and game night. We even enjoyed it on the few rainy days we had. Everything you need to enjoy the lake is right there, including the dock, kayaks, canoe, paddleboard, and the tubes! We took full advantage of it all including many nights by the fire pit. Summerscales gives you no reason to leave the house and it’s easy to enjoy an entire week here with all that Rob & Caprice put into their home. The amenities and access of rumbling bald were amazing and we highly recommend taking a walk at sunset to watch the sun go behind the mountains from the golf course. If you are looking for something to do around the area, we highly recommend zip lining at Canopy Ridge spending a day or two in Asheville, and of course, visiting/hiking chimney rock! While the area is still rehabilitating from Helene, we were proud to have experienced even just a very small part of it. Can’t wait to come back and enjoy another vacation at Summerscales

Summerscales Vacation at Bald Mountain Lake

What a great vacation property! The home is beautiful with lovely views from every space. It's well-equipped with everything you could want or need for a perfect visit. The house design provides great spaces to gather for meals and games and plenty of privacy if you want to relax by yourself with a good book. If you have kids like we do, tearing them away from the lake, stream, and pools may make it hard to get out and explore beyond the neighborhood. One fun adventure we especially enjoyed was a hike to Hickory Nut Falls and to the top of the rock in Chimney Rock State Park. We went a fun stream-side brewery in town afterwards. The hosts were quick to respond to questions. A good time was had by all!

After living in northern England for 16 years, we moved back to the United States to Asheville North Carolina a few years ago. We still visit the UK annually and stay at our apartment in Harrogate, Kulla Loft, which we used to manage as a vacation rental but is now run by Host and Stay North Yorkshire. We recently realized a lifelong dream of building a lake house, Summerscales, in Lake Lure. Both being lovers of hiking, walking, and all things outdoors, it's a great spot for us to get together with our family and friends. We always enjoyed making guest feel welcome and comfortable at Kulla Loft and plan to bring the same great hospitality to Summerscales.

Why they chose this property

Bald Mountain Lake provides the opportunity to fish, swim or get out on a paddle board or kayak without fear of speed boats running you down. You can watch the sunrise over the mountains with a cup of coffee and enjoy a fire out back at night and watch the lightening bugs. From the front door you can walk to the nearby hiking trail that will take you 17 miles through the mountains with views of Lake Lure. But in less than a mile you can also have dinner at our two local restaurants, play a round of golf, mini golf, pickle ball, or tennis, go to the local spa or hold a fully catered wedding ceremony. So, it's the best of both worlds.

What makes this property unique

Unlike many lake houses, Summerscales has a large flat back yard where children can play and grown ups can enjoy the spacious patio and fire pit by the lake. Being a new build, Summerscales, has many custom features such as a reclaimed wooden kitchen island, reclaimed stained glass transom windows, hand distressed wooden doors, unique imported tile work, and beamed ceilings. It's not just an investment to us; it's our second home so we stay there ourselves regularly. It was built thoughtfully and we look after it carefully.
